Want to have some fun with snobby friends? Do a vodka tasting party. Try this, get a couple of bottles of the usual stuff, belvedere, chopin, sobieski, that horrible finnish stuff, that even worse swedish stuff, grey goose, russian standard platinum, and some bottom shelf stuff. Do blind taste tasting and watch with joy as people drink different vodkas and think they're the same one, people drinking 10zl vodka and swearing that it's grey goose. Ah, good times. I can tell chopin and russian standard platinum out of the crowd. Everything else just kind tastes the same (and of course, zubrowka...but that falls into the flavored category..).

Do you know it's possible to drink your liver away?

English only

I thought the literal translation of "na zdrowie" is "to your health". A reply to this is "pic zbogiem" (drink with the Lord) or "najlepszego" (good luck).

Zubrówka

Żubrówka and apple juice is very popular. And to be honest, it's very tasty. :)

Goldschlager is originally Swiss.

The one traditionally from Gdańsk is called Goldwasser, though it's now produced in Germany.

Yes it is. And if someone says it, you also say na zdrowie, and then you drink. Easy.

I had bought a bottle of Goldschager and decided to strain the gold out of the bottle before drinking it. Total weight of all gold in the bottle weighed less than 0.1grams.The gold didn't even register on a scale.!!!!!At todays price of gold,it was only worth $1.38

I've done the taste test, and could not tell gut rot from expensive stuff.
But, I've been trying to conduct the relative hangover experiments, and although it's impossible to do scientifically, I'll still swear you get what you pay for. Belvedere is much kinder to me next day than, let's say, Skol.

I guess the gold didn't agree with you.

Right you are.. I remember from my youth days how the next day used to be painful. Now that i am a few years older (and wiser) I drink only quality stuff (quantity has remained much the same) but the days after are a doodle..

Pablo Picasso once said

"The three most astonishing things of the past half-century are the Blues, Cubism and Polish vodka."

(for me: Zubrowka, and Wyborowa...)

Ultimat Vodka is a truly a decadent ultra-premium vodka product in its handsome Polish hand-blown cobalt blue and clear heavy crystal bottle with a crystal and cork stopper. Ultimate vodka is made from a blend of potato, wheat and rye, whereas most vodkas are either made from potatoes or grain.

I tried this vodka chilled and found it to have a smooth richness, with a pleasant, subtle clean aftertaste

Orkisz vodka-- which is made of spelt wheat – a unique and rare variety of wheat harvested at the foot of the Polish mountains –.

After trying it I find it has a distinct and mellow flavour.

Maybe it went to Bols? That's a scandal, total sacrilege giving away control to a non-Polish group.

Żubrowka is great, but it has a very characteristic taste.

Mixing it with cold apple juice is an excellent, classical drink.
