Who deserves to inherit Polish Forums?

To implement that would require a lot of programming

So maybe PF could switch to a proper, modern forum software (XenForo, vBulletin) which already has all the bells and whistles? It would save a lot of time and effort and isn't all that expensive either. All software requires a human/moderator. The bells and whistles only add to more maintenance and bug fixing.

So maybe PF

So you are back.
Stop being hysterical.
The Drums and dramatic music, choir in the background, and Torq in black attire with tears dripping down his chin whisper I'm done with this forum I'm leaving.
People are throwing themselves at his feet, trying to stop him from leaving by grasping with their feeble fingers the soles of his shoes, in the background a hardly visible silhouette of a man in a helmet waving a white handkerchief trying to hold back his tears.

How about you post or not post leave or not have a break or whatever without all that cheesy drama?

True, but they might attract more users who would be willing to support such a modernised, more attractive board.

without all that cheesy drama?

Oh, but life is all about drama, Iron! It would be unbearably boring without it. :)

We'd need to boot Novichok for that. Garbage on almost every thread about "b1tches', rape, rants about minorities, advocating mass murder and the awful stuff he writes about black people would certainly put off most potential users who might contribute something interesting.

The forum used to be thriving; that won't come back in the same way since the internet is moving to apps, Reddit, whatever comes next etc however it still has the potential to be good. All that filth though, especially the misogynistic stuff, would certainly cause me and probably most of us to stay away if we came across the forum today.

What did you contribute that is interesting...

Oops...sorry...I recall now...

No, it's not.

and

Yes, it is.

Pulitzer grade prose...

Now listen good, azzhole...My agenda won the elections...Your agenda is...You don't have an agenda...

Azzfvckers never do other than how to shove more rainbows down our kids' troats.

In summary...

See what I mean? If anyone posts, one particular person automatically starts trying to argue.

It kills threads on interesting topics and puts people off posting.

It's more or less 24/7, 365 since he doesn't seem to leave the house. Even other people who make a lot of short posts (I think Pawian has the record and there are periods when I have time to kill and make plenty of posts) take timeout when we're at work or asleep and some quite long breaks when we're have other things going on and don't go online much.

As I say, it puts a lot of people off, especially the "b1tches" stuff and the extreme comments including about killing children. This happens many times daily and has done for a while. We can date the decline of the forum from when it started.

He either doesn't know or doesn't care that trash talk like that is unacceptable in normal society.

And if it's not that, he's bickering (often in orrevtlt) about people's grammar or the words they choose.

Another thing that would help the forum is if it weee iPhone or iPad friendly. I'd you post using one of those (and this does seem the way of the future for now) or tricky since the screen jumps up and down (At least it does on my devices) and you can't see what you're posting. It leads to typos and is pretend too much trouble.

PF can be operated in a new format with modern hosting and software for about $40 US per month. If you have the right hosting and software that updates itself, it is minimal effort to maintain. The only issue is migrating all the old posts and topics to new software, not all if any will likely transfer. This is a data driven site, and the import functions on new software may not work with this. Hosting contracts with the right companies are monthly at best and annually at worst. Moderators should be volunteer, and noe should have access to any persons identifying information. PF has a long way to go to meet higher standards in many respects.

Why the fvck are you here

fvck

jerk off ...... azzhole?

mancvnt

See what I mean, Admin?

Imagine how that looks to someone who comes here for the first time. Especially a lady.

And it's quite deliberate. On his facebook page, he's all
Sweetness and light. It's also the middle of the night in his timezone, and he's been posting this stuff since early morning.

Why am I here? Like many of us, I'm here to talk about Poland, the country I've lived in for several decades. Not about domestic politics in America, not about 'culture wars', and certainly not about 'b1tches'.

PF is just another battleground in the culture war.

Culture war, possibly, but not a very cultured war unfortunately. ;)

Imagine how that looks to someone who comes here for the first time.

Jon has a good point here, Novi. We all know each other like bald horses, so we can hurl abuse at one another (and our mums) every now and then and still be able to discuss things later. However, for potential new members it might indeed be off-putting.

Narcissists have an insatiable need to be the center of attention all. the. time.

Never underestimate this.

Jon has a good point here,

Yes. How many times have new people shown their face with a goodwill question only to find themselves in the middle of a bunch of monkeys throwing feces at each other?

The more the antics of trolls and narcissists are tolerated the greater percentage of users they will become.....

the antics of trolls and narcissists

Those harmful for this forum I call spammers. I also agree that their antics should be curtailed or banned. Saying that this forum seems to have a problem with its ability to block posters, they can easily come back again and again.

Can people who post that PF runs on "outdated" software specify what they mean? Let's compare Xenforo's random page to PF's random page and see what Google says:

Xenforo: https://pagespeed.web.dev/analysis/https-xenforo-com-community-threads-xenforo-2-3-6-released-229139/is0xdwoi8i?form_factor=mobile

PF: https://pagespeed.web.dev/analysis/https-polishforums-com-classifieds-poland-jobs-available-88565/ltxx36pt25?form_factor=mobile

Where does PF fail to meet your standards?

Let's compare Xenforo's random page to PF's random page and see what Google says

Xenforo, vBulletin or even SMF have avatars, signatures, user titles, badges, smileys, reactions to posts and many other features which enhance the user experience and make the board more attractive to members.

PF runs very smoothly, is never down, and rarely has any technical problems but it lacks the modern bells and whistles. It's very spartan, very puritan - so to speak - but it doesn't seem to be very attractive to new members or to the younger generation (we are almost all 40+ or even older - like the Russian army according to Cms, haha :)).

Come on, Admin, try vBulletin or XenForo - what's the worst that could happen?

My point is.. when you visited google.com in 2000, it's almost the same now as a quarter of century ago. Even Facebook and other social media have been removing the Likes and other buttons. At the end of the day, the content and people who post are what matters. More features mean more trouble and more clutter. We've tried that in the past. Why doesn't Xenforo have these features installed on their own website - probably for the reasons I mentioned above.

specify what they mean

For me it's not so much the age of the software (I've no idea what's outdated or not anyway, not being a much of a techie) as the way the screen jumps up and down when using apple products. MacBook fine, iPad not so fine and iPhones, tragic, especially before the new software update where you slide your finger around (this partially motivates the problem) trainer than type.

Presumably other people have this problem. I think Lenka posts on a phone since her posts are usually rief and Amiga500 too however whether they use android or iOS maybe makes a difference. Maybe Strzelec uses since there are a lot of typos. It's probably related to Apple's/Safari web browser. We added some "hack" to browsers that don't support the modern native feature (ie. auto-grow forms). I believe it should be fixed in time when we remove this hack and Safari supports it natively.

Posting this from an iPad Pro. The screen moves down a single row when typing each character.

Edit on older iPad (9th gen) both using safari no issues on this older iPad.

My android phone jumps around when typing on Firefox.

It's probably related to Apple's/Safari web browser.

Not only.....it's with Firefox and a Windows PC too! I thought its only me...but I have that "hopping" problem too, the moment you write more than only a few lines it becomes very difficult!
Barney  19 | 1729
25 Feb 2025   #291
avatars, user titles, reaction score, points and smileys

Don't like that.

Note this is older iPad and the jumping problem happens when typing a post but no issues when typing in edit mode

@BB
It seems to move down with each character typed.

...the first few lines are okay, but then.... yes, the fix tried to address that and make the form auto-grow in all browsers, but it was not ideal. The "field-sizing" is not yet supported in Firefox or Safari: developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/CSS/field-sizing#browser_compatibility . But I've just removed the fix as it's going to be supported soon.

Never heard of any Xenforo or vBulletin user experiencing any problems like that, and I've never experienced them posting on the boards using the software either. Because they tend to implement features that are fully supported in all browsers.

Okay....maybe a decision help:

Which of these softwares would help our poor Admin and lessen his stress and workload?
Barney  19 | 1729
25 Feb 2025   #295
Windows PC too!

Thats weird...
I've never had any problem with a PC/laptop/imac ever(this is a windows 10 machine on Chrome) . I posted with an ipad for years with no issues.

When typing on a portable device keep typing and ignore the" jumpiness"or repeatedly swipe the text box to the top again

We added some "hack" to browsers that don't support the modern native feature

Sounds reasonable...

Both would do that, as well as making the board more attractive to potential new members, enhancing the experience for everyone, and catapulting PF to 2020s.

Again, what's the worst that could happen?

Same, however the iPad is from 2022 so newish. The previous one (which still works and someone else uses) was the same.

It happens in a few other places but is particularly noticeable here. Maybe it's a case of the software of the product (no I don't want to save in the bloody cloud, not in Africa on a crap internet connection)being ahead of the reality of the internet.

Edit (very slow internet here today)

I just saw Admin's reply and it more or less makes sense to a tech layperson. I'll have a go on a browser other than safari when things are going faster.
