Love / So i am in love with a polish guy..... [20]

Thanks for your feedback everybody on this particular thread .... in response to

just me who cant see the point of this thread?

i have to say i came on here merely trying to get feedback as to whether my feeling that this guy was being a bit inappropriate was justified or not .

The general consensus is that he wasn't and although i appreciate Polish people may have a 'certain look' and that a remark that he looks 'foreign' may seem fine to some,i suppose my way of thinking is different as the fact that he is polish is secondary to my feelings for the guy.I suppose i should have realised this and taken such a remark on the chin.

I guess my posting of this thread was born out of a reaction to the fact that i thought a comment that 'he looked foreign' was irrelevant to the person making the remark ...that was all...

Cheers for the advice....i know it can be interpreted as an observant comment and i suppose i should perhaps take it as such ....

Then why do you know him? If you're not happy with his remarks and you're not even that close you should distance yourself from him.

yeah your right ..... i am just going to block him

Love / So i am in love with a polish guy..... [20]

I have been friends with for a long time and am now in a relationship with a wonderful polish guy who i simply adore.I am English and he works over here...i posted previously asking if his sister was his wife but thankfully she isnt!! He has asked me to go to poland with him in the summer to meet his family and things seem to be going well for us.....

However i have a facebook account and yes i finally got round to posting some photos of us together yesterday. Some of my friends have commented on how great we look together etc but this evening i had a message on there from an ******* aquaintance of mine (ironically a police officer) saying 'hmmmm your other half looks foreign'....isnt that totally rude and innapropriate not to mention racist!!

I replied to him saying even if he is what difference does that make? Honestly my heart is pounding from being so angry!!!!

Love / Is this Polish guy's 'Sister' his wife? [8]

Cheers for the advice...i think i am going to be direct with him and just ask him about it as my gut instinct is that he is married and just looking for a bit on the side!!

Love / Is this Polish guy's 'Sister' his wife? [8]

Sorry i know the subject sounds totally bizarre but i am looking for a little advice about something.
I have become good friends with a Polish guy over the past couple of months. He is over here working and we have become close friends.I suppose we like eachother.

I am a bit cautious about becoming involved with him as his best mate dated a mate of mine and waited till after he slept with her to call her an 'easy rider' and that he actually had a long term girlfriend in Poland.

He claims he is not after 'fun' but a relationship etc and that he is not like his friend....anyways.....a while ago we were all out with a big group of friends and he pulled his mobile phone out and started showing me pictures of his family etc.He stopped on a picture of a girl who had black hair (he's blonde) and asked me what i thought of her..i said she was pretty and he said it was his sister and that she was 20 and pregnant.

I didnt think anymore of it until another night we were out and i picked up his phone to find his screensaver was his sister!!!

Obviously i was trying to be cool and nonchalant so i didnt say anything....its not like we were actually going out properly...then he claims he has to go back to Poland for a week as his sister is going to give birth and that his boss is giving him the money to go back ..... according to him he has a big family there so i thought why is it really necessary for him to go back??

Okay maybe he is from a close family etc but how would that explain the screensaver on his phone?? Should i just casually ask him if he is married and risk looking like a bunny boiler or just forget about it???

Love / Polish Boyfriend Left to Poland [19]

About a year or so ago i was in a simular situation where the guy i liked went back to Poland. He was younger than me by a couple of years and just couldnt hack life here in the UK.His dad and uncle both came over here to work in construction and he tagged along with them but lacked skills to do that kinda work so unfortunately after i fell for him in a big way he decided to go back to Poland to finish his studies!! Naturally i was devastated at the time and there was lots of too-ing and throwing on his part where i would receive random text messages in Polish that i would have to get translated (his english wasnt that great either) but despite my feelings i had to come to the conclusion that he had made his choice to go back to Poland and that i would have to move on.I still think about him and though we arent in contact anymore maybe one day he may come back but in the meantime i am just enjoying life and getting on with it!

i wish you all the luck in the world with your situation and hope it works out well for you x

UK, Ireland / Anti-Polish sentiment of England [253]

there a lot of Romanian guys here at the moment thats for sure-they recently took a building contract that had been previously a polish building contract-from the impression i got from one of them-they are here to stay-one has only been down in London for six weeks and claims he has been fasttracked a council flat to move in before xmas.

the Poles i know rent property and dont rely on state handouts

History / What does it mean to be Polish? [46]

I agree with the above-you do have to be brought up in the country to say u totally belong to it-i mean when i went to Ireland on holidays to see relatives etc i didnt really embrace my Irishness as i never experienced that much of it.Having said that i love England but dont see myself as totally english-i guess i am somewhere inbetween

UK, Ireland / The Northern Ireland question. [3]

There will never be a solution to the Northern Ireland Question-there may be a cease fire at the moment and so called peace but it will never last.

I dont claim to know the facts or anything just focusing on my own opinion and experience.I was born in London and have lived here all my life-my parents are both Irish.I consider England to be my home however from my experience growing up there is lots of animosity toward the north from the south of Ireland-my mother once told me that the south wants nothing to do with the north and that is a view of a lot of Irish people.

Although i live and was born here-my family has been affected by both sides of this conflict-my great grandparents were killed by the British in 1917 and back in 1991 there was an IRA bomb which killed one person right near i was living and ironically i was a witness to a suspicious individual prior to the incident and was questioned at length by the police.

it is inbred

i do think Amathyst has a valid point here as in my experience this is true-without knowing it your brought up to hate-i have always felt suspicious of protestant Northern Irish people and i dont know why as i have never really had relationships with them to make this assumption-maybe its part of things my parents have said-i dont know.I try to be indifferent now as this kind of feeling and hostility does keep this kind of purpose alive and allows hatred on both sides never to be resolved.

I think everyone would like peace eventually but like Palestine and Israel-this conflict looks set to run and run probably forever

UK, Ireland / I understand poles coming to uk [196]

See mate, once you're not being so angry, you don't sound so bad...

i agree....maybe Chris isnt a racist but his approach to this argument is wrong with his swearing and stuff-things will be different when Bulgaria and Romania join

UK, Ireland / I understand poles coming to uk [196]

Chris if u wanna have a pop at anyone have a pop at Tony Blair....i dont think Polish people who are actually contributing to society are the burden of Britain ...most are here for a short time and go home..they dont take benefits. There are people from other parts of the world who come here and bleed the country dry that are a problem not polish or other europeans

UK, Ireland / I understand poles coming to uk [196]

I am from the Uk and agree to an extent that too many people come here to live but the ones i have issue with are from countries not within the EU but elsewhere. The EU allows movement from countries to live and work as simple as that.Poles come here to work..and i have never met a more hardworking bunch of people...certainly beats a lot of Brits who are sitting on their arses claiming benefits who refuse to work and there are plenty of them around.

Life / Alcohol and women in Poland [5]

I know a lot of polish guys who are heavy drinkers...i just wanted to get some clarity as to whether polish men find it acceptable for women to drink socially in Poland...reason i ask is that i may have ruined a date by getting drunk and sick with a polish guy so just curious

UK, Ireland / BEWARE when coming over UK [363]

Last year Oxfam and another charity shop

i agree

if you apply for a job at the local council and you're a one legged, lesbian muslim you've got the job, you've filled all the quota's

a couple of years back i applied for a job with the council and i had good experience..answered everything correctly and i really believe i should have got an interview...never got a reply...they even actually say that they particually encourage applications from certain groups as they are under represented on the council..whatever happened to skills and experience????

its ridiculous all this political correctness malarkey....Tony Blair has ruined this country....Human Rights Act is being exploited at every opportunity ...i have another charity shop tale....a mate of mine is a manager for one and they cant celebrate Halloween or sell anything to do with the supernatural...whether it be horror novels etc..Tarot cards...etc as it reflects paganism or something...how ridiculous!!!!!!!!!!

if i was to go to Iran i would have to respect their customs and dress in modest attire and i have no issue with that...i agree with when in rome....the government in this country needs to listen to people as parties like the BNP thrive on this kind of feeling and can get easy votes because of it

UK, Ireland / BEWARE when coming over UK [363]

A few weeks ago i found out a friend of mine four years ago stood as a councillor candidate for the BNP...to look at this person you would never guess that they hold these views....i suppose the BNP has a stereotype of skinheads etc but this person reeks of middle class morals and respectability..she is a church goer, works for a charity and is deeply respected by her community..until a mutual friend told me this info i would never have guessed and i have not confronted her about it as yet..although i agree people are entitled to their views it is a free country afterall..i have began to have doubts about her as a person and as a friend.....my parents were immigrants and my nephew is mixed race...what does she think of me??The point i am trying to make is that the BNP are appearing gradually to be more respectable and thus appealling to an electorate previously ostracised by the old negative image they had in the 80s and 90s....they are on the rise epecially in areas in the north of england and even in london boroughs like Barking....

I am glad to be part of Europe..i love to meet people from different countries as i love differnt cultures etc...there are good and bad in every country..i think europeans should be able to come to this country and contribute to the economy etc....but like Amathystsays Britain cant cope anymore with the influx....it does get to the point where you need to consider how much is enough....i think other countries in the EU should welcome other EU members to contribute to their economies and share the load....i dont like to see non racists becoming attracted to a racist party just because Tony Blair cant sort things out

Life / Polish Parents are controlling [58]

My mum isnt polish but she is exactly like some of the moms you describe on here....She likes to know what i am doing..who i am going out with etc..a million questions!!!so i started lying to her which i hate to do as i am very honest...i have had to hide some of my relationships from her also as she is very judgemental of who i date etc...would move out but renting and property prices in London are an arm and a leg:) but having said that i love her to bits and wouldnt change her for the world!

UK, Ireland / BEWARE when coming over UK [363]

The BNP are a dangerous nasty bunch who with their nationalistic ideals are vastly becoming an attractive alternative to the three major political parties with their stance on immigration etc........this is a very dangerous thing..they shield themselves in modest respectability whilst hiding a core of evil...they are simply political thugs and will never get in power....no one in England is 100% true british anyway and their manifesto is a catologue of contradictory policies....lets say they got in power...what are they going to do with all the afro carribean people who have lived here for 50/60 years....send them home?????

i know a lot of brits are fed up with immigration and stuff but voting BNP really is a vote for pure evil and hatred
