Feedback / New server and problems with updating [21]

its pretty frustrating when it doesnt work properly, I prob need to go update something
on my comp..

Yes it is a computer related problem Patrycja, rather than a PF server problem. I had the dreaded "red x" problem myself a couple of years ago and had to delete two keys in the registry ( not for the faint hearted ).

Maybe you could try deleting your temporary files, history and cookies from your Internet browser, this can help sometimes. Failing that your best bet is "Google" there will be many people who had the same problem, and may have left a solution.

UK, Ireland / How can I ship bulky, heavy items from Poland to the UK?? [7]

What are the options for sending parcels/boxes of books 5-10-20kg?

Some Polish people that I know, send parcels/boxes back to Poland with the help of a Polish church. There is a collection once a week and the boxes etc, are then all sent together and takes about 1 week to get to various cities in PL. The cost is £1 per kg, quite cheap.

It might be worth finding out if there is a collection service like this near you.

Language / When does polish "ch" sound like eng "ch" and when is it "h"? [59]

lol.. no way.. there is no difference.. z is another pole so reread what he wrote.

Two polish guys on this thread have said that there is no difference between ch and h so I would think that's that. Is it possible that some regional accents in Poland differ slightly with pronunciation as they do in other countries and non-natives might hear the letters pronounced with a slight difference?

UK, Ireland / What do Polish people in Ireland think of Irish food? [90]

and of course, the ultimate hangover cure

Not quite ;) The legendary "Ulster fry" holds that crown. Simply the best fry-up in the world;) Known as "heart-attack on a plate" it is definitely worth taking a gamble on it now and again;)

good to know:) What's in it please.

The two ingredients that makes it different from an English breakfast is the soda bread and the potato bread. Irish bacon and sausages, seem to taste better as well. In the picture there appears to be some black pudding, but I can honestly say that I have never seen it in an Ulster fry. Just as well as I can't stand the stuff;)

Another ingredient that I have seen is "vegetable roll". Its a bit like a half size hamburger made with sausage meat and has some kind of green herb in it. Some cafes would add a fried pancake as well.

It's no wonder that it is known affectionately as" heart attack on a plate" ;)

You have never seen white or black pudding on a breakfast plate? You must be a squatter on Irish land. ;)

I have lived there for 16 years and have not seen it in an Ulster fry.

Did you enjoy your march on the 12th?

I believe not every one marches on the 12th. I thought this thread was about food:)

Are you an Ulster protestant?

I never talk about religion because it is unimportant to me what a persons religious beliefs
are. Now are you going to keep on topic or shall I close this thread?

By the way, I didn't find the authentic Irish Stew Recipe.

The Irish stew that I have seen (in the North of Ireland) has only 4 ingredients + water, potatoes, onions, carrots and meat (stewing steak or lamb). I dare say some people may now add extra ingredients like swede but I have always seen it with the former.

This is simmered for about 40 minutes until most of the water has evaporated and the stew is so thick that you could serve it on a plate rather than a bowl. :)

Like the Polish bigos it gets better when you reheat it next day.

Feedback / Can someone tell me why my threads are disappearing from the forum?? Aniol X [10]

i can only see my 'threads' under profile, not individual posts. Have i posted it in the wrong topic?

If starting a new thread topic asking for a translation, it pays to add a few words from the translation into the title. It would also help if you have already started a similar thread to post your new request in there ;)

Life / Internet Problems in Poland, need help connecting. [26]

My first thoughts are that you will need a router to share the same internet connection on two or more pc's. With my cable modem provider, each network card in a pc needs to be registered with them to work separately. Having a router connected would help your problem, as it basically, sees all network cards as one.

Love / How to gain the attention of a Polish man? [71]

I do not understanhd the the 'pshi' sound?

Try using this site to listen to Jestes Bardzo przystojny. You will have to choose Ewa then delete what is already in the text box, then type in your words.

News / WHY DOES POLAND, EU PERMIT FLOOD OF CHINA JUNK? [40]

Dewalt for me, thanks.

Dewalt make good quality drills but are 3 times more expensive as others in the UK. Still it is the first choice of professional tradesmen in the construction industry. At the end of the day you only get what you pay for. Other good quality tools here are spirit levels from Germany, and trowels from USA. Again the most expensive, but the first choice for the trades. As they say "buy cheap and you buy twice".

It would be interesting to know which quality tools are popular in Poland as opposed to cheap imports from China etc.

Language / Accent marks in Polish language [22]

I asked this question myself a couple of years ago, and some answers are here Two years later and I still hear some words pronounced with the "ę" sound. I have come to the conclusion that some words need to be like this, to hear the difference in sound between similar verbs like chcę (I want) and chce ( he/she/it wants). Maybe a native Polish member will clear this up for us:)
