Food / Is there McDonalds, KFC, Pizza Hut etc in Poland? Food survey. [222]

I heard that it is Polish custom for topping pizza with ketchup as opposed to tomato sauce.

No they just put ketchup on the pizza that already contains tomato sauce I believe.

Of course Poland has McDonalds, KFC, Pizza Hut etc....These are multinational corporations!

Life / Culture & Women [80]

read the story, not everybody involved is polish, i accept what your saying but hay, people just can't wait to pop of a few rounds before looking at the target :)

I was just saying it has nothing to do with Eastern Europe(the nationalities in question) and I was giving an example of what would happen if all Polish were involved.

Life / Culture & Women [80]

This has nothing to do with Eastern European culture...most Polish guys I know would knock the other guy out, and as for Polish girls, they would probably be even more compelled to slap the guy in the face.

Language / Się and Non-Się [6]

Why on some verbs is się added when it doesn't change the meaning of the verb at all?
Ex. Ukrywać, ukrywać się, they both mean to hide.
or zmienić, zmienić się, both mean to change.

Language / 'Na pole' or 'na dwor' ? [32]

I just asked my cousin about it in an email, i will let you know the answer when he replies=)

Here is the response from my cousin in Bieruń:

'We say 'na pole' because it is regional custom, it is an example of silesian language, there are a lot of differences in 'speaking language' in different parts of Poland'

Life / Smoking ban - will this be coming to Poland like other EU countries? [183]

The no smoking rule came in January 1st. There is/was a period of grace for a few months.

I think you can't smoke in the terminals in Frankfurt but you can still smoke in the airport, I remember seeing a non smoking sign and then a few feet away a smoking station.

but it was pointless, there was no walls separating the two sections, and the smoke just circulates any way it wants.

Where I live, people have spent thousands of dollars on the smoking rooms in restaurants so they are very effective and completely separate from the non-smoking rooms

Language / 'Na pole' or 'na dwor' ? [32]

For example, here in Silesia, which is in the South of Poland, they generally say 'na dwór' more here. Na pole is more of a Kraków term and from the villages as said above

When I was in Bieruń(Close to Katowice) in Silesia, they told me 'outside' was na pole, they never said na dwór
