UK, Ireland / Immigrants trigger Irish rethink [71]

I had a feeling you were not anti British...I must say i have never had a problem living here in Poland , and have been welcomed by everyone.....Mind you i do try to fit in with the way of life here and be part of the community.....I certainly don,t think Poland is perfect , but i like it , and don,t find that much to complain about....I like Poland the way it is , and don,t want it to get too much like the UK....Most of my Polish friends seem to think life would be pefect in Poland if it was like the UK , they are puzzled as to why an English person would want to live here....I think there are things that do need to change in Poland , but i hope i am dead before it gets the same as in the UK.....

Life / Is drinking water in Poland good? [96]

Hi Pola......I can only speak for myself , but the Polish friends i had living at my house in the Uk while they worked in UK were never looked down on by me or my friends....They were seen as just what they were , some people just trying to earn a living...And as for complaining about Poland...Most of the complaints i hear come from Polish people......I am a teacher of English , and i am constantly hearing from my students what an awfull place Poland is....On the other hand all my English friends who have visited here think the place is wonderfull...I can understand that for a young person , living in a country with lovely lakes and forests is no big deal , they want a new car , the latest stereo , money to go to night clubs...thats why they are all heading off to other countries....Hopefully , when they have made their money they will come back to Polska , and invest it here....I think Poland has a great future , i just hope i am not the only one here to enjoy it.....

Life / Polish Parents are controlling [58]

I wouldn,t say it was just a Polish thing....I was born and brought up in the UK...My mom came and tried to drag me home from a gathering of several of my biker mates when i was 16...very embarrasing when you are trying to be a tough biker guy , i hated her for it , and we never got on at all till i moved out when i was 17...Looking back now i can see she was just trying to look after the only man left in her life after my dad went absent when i was 5....My mom died three years ago two days before my birthday....I wish i understood then what i do now.....

Life / Spending a few months in Poland [23]

Is this easy / fun to do?

Not so easy , especially if you have not taught before.....I found my self doing it , and even ended up teaching little monsters ( kids ) Thankfully the children in Poland are quite nice people compared to the UK , and i did enjoy it.....One sweet little girl even brought me flowers to the school....How could i not enjoy that....The money was not great , but i don,t have a mortgage or rent to pay , so it was enough....

News / How does Poland imagine other countries see her? [84]

Polish police are very corrupt

When i first arrived in Poland i was not used to having to carry all my documents on me when driving my car or riding my motorcycle...Before i got used to doing this i must have been stopped about five times , and i did not have my documents on me...The police were quite within their rights to fine me money for my ignorance , but none of them ever did....They told me i must carry my documents at all times , told me how much the fine was , and then sent me on my way without any penalty...maybe its because i am English , they wanted to give a good impression , maybe they were just nice guys , but i have no complants about the Polish police.....

UK, Ireland / We welcome Polish people to Britain! [224]

gaining more and more votes....

I know , especially in area,s that have a large population of non white people , but i don,t see them ever getting strong enough to get into power and start a bloodbath in Uk , which is what is going to happen if they start trying to deport people out of UK...And of course all the nutters in countries that have Brits living there will see it as a chance to get rid of their guests...Not good news for peole like me trying to make a living in another country...What really pee,s me off is that because of these people i can,t fly the flag of my country on my house in UK without people thinking i am a nazi....Here in Poland i fly both an English and a Polish flag...not a problem at all....

Love / why wont he communicate? going crazy [90]

You are not going to like this advice......I think you know in your own heart that you have been let down , and if you manage to find him in Poland you are not going to like what you find...It could be his family have put their foot down and told him they don,t want him getting involved with you , or it may be he has a girlfriend or wife back in Poland.....Its not easy to accept such an idea , but i know from my own experiance that people can be very good at convincing you that you are the only one in their lives when they are a long way from home , family and partner....I had exactly the same situation with a lovely Polish girl....Shortly before we were to travel back to Poland together she decided to tell me she had a boyfriend....Of course she assured me that their relationship was about to end , and they were not that close....It was all lies of course....I live in Poland now , and still see her now and then , her boyfriend is a really nice guy who obviously thinks the world of her...She wanted to carry on the relationship with me after we got back to Poland , but i backed out of it , despite the fact i was in love with her , and i lost my house due to my relationship with her....Its possible i suppose your guy has had an accident or something , but you would think somebody would let you know about this.....What he is doing to you is cruel and painfull , but people do this sometimes....He should at least have the courage to tell you whats going on....I hope you get some news either way ...If you are coming to the north of Poland , give me a shout , we can have a beer , and cry into it together....hope it works out....Jan ....

History / Should goverments pull in war criminals from WWII? [33]

This is not true as we have seen USA hold accountable soldiers in Iraq

I was thinking more about the second war , Iraq is a bit different , there are camera,s all over the place and its more difficult to hide war crimes...I don,t think there would be so many soldiers held to account if the press were not close to the action....Take a look at the situation in Vietnam , not so many wound up paying for their war crimes there....

Love / why wont he communicate? going crazy [90]

maybe he has re-kindled a relationship over in poland

And maybe he didn,t need to rekindle one , some poor woman in Poland may have been getting lots of messages from him while he was in UK telling her how much he loved her and how he would soon be home to her....I really wish i could give you some hope on this , but i have found out the hard way in this life thats is easy to be convinced that someone is in love with you , if you are in love with them....They say that love is blind ,but don,t worry , its not permanant , you regain your sight in time...You are finding all kinds of excuses for his behavour , but be honest with your self , you know dam well that there is absolutly no excuse for not contacting you to let you know whats going on....Even if his family , or wife are preventing him calling you its certain they are not guarding him 24 hours a day....If i was in love with someone , or even just cared about them i would find a way to contact them no matter how impossible it was...I am guessing here , but just maybe you were a very pleasant distraction for him , to take his mind off the fact he was missing home and family , now he is back with them , and he does not need you any more....Human nature being what it is nobody likes to admit to being a muppet and falling for the pretty lies , but it happens...I wasn,t born wise to such things , i found out the sad and painfull way.........My god i could tell you tales of heartbreak...Despite this i have memories of love so special it will keep me warm forever , i am not yet ready to give up on love... I really hope i am wrong about him , but nothing you have told me gives me reason to think i am....I hope things do work out for you , and i would love for you to tell me i got it all wrong....don,t keep me in suspense lady , if you hear anything , let me know...best wishes...Jan....

UK, Ireland / 13,000 Polish births this year, in the UK [180]

psychopaths from the British Isles.

Not sure disliking Poland makes somebody a psychopath...Poland is quite different from the UK , and of course its going to be something that some people just can,t adjust to....As an Englishman living in Poland i find the differences a pleasant change from the UK...I am kinda hoping Poland does not get like the UK , though i fear its bound to happen someday...Hopefully i will be long dead by then....i think its a bit harsh to label somebody a nutter just because they don,t like Poland...Many of my Polish friends hated the UK , but it doesen,t stop them being my friends..they were never rude about my country , but they simply didn,t like it , and as soon as they had made some money there they were on the first plane back home....It can be terrible to be a long way from home , and hate the place you find yourself in , but it doesn,t mean you are a bad person...I am lucky , i like it here in Polska.....

the offer of a beer

A beer now thats a good idea... i can can always be talked into a nice Polish beer....I don,t usually get much chance to drink the stuff , as to go anywhere usually means taking the car or bike , and i am trying very hard not to do as most of my friends do and drink even tho they are driving....My old run down farm is between Polczyn zdroj , and Drawsko pomorskie , i am about ten miles from Polczyn....Its not so hard seeing my blondie any more , we became friends after a while despite the fact i discovered i was not the only one she had a fling with behind her boyfriends back....its a shame she is like this , because he is a nice guy , and was always ok with me even after she supposedly confessed to him about me...I have not seen her for a while now , but she did send me a Christmas e card...The last i heard she was having a baby , so maybe she will settle down and behave herself now....For me the hardest part is not seeing her parents any more , they were good to me when i first came to Poland , and i miss them a bit...Which part of Poland are you headed for...? let me know , and i will look on my map and see if its less than a million miles from my place....Its going to be a bit cold in Poland in january, so don,t forget to pack your thermal undies......

Love / why wont he communicate? going crazy [90]

There is an old saying that goes If you love them , let them go , if they belong to you , then they will return...if they do not , then they were never yours in the first place.......I can understand your anger and frustration lady , but nothing you can say or do will get a response unless he wants contact with you , and clearly , for some reason he doesn,t....So your friends think you are too nice do they , where have you been all my life , my friends say the same about me , why do nice people like us wind up with the bad news people....Maybe its something to do with opposites attract eh.....The best cure i can suggest for the way you feel is the following....Get an old pillow case , stuff it full of old clothes , so its nice and tight , get yourself a large metal pole.....and beat the fu***** crap out of the pillow case....works wonders.....
