UK, Ireland / Friend told "just allow your son to forget Polish" by school. [96]

Jihozapad

at the age at which they are most easily able to learn, is idiotic

I agree full heartedly. From personal experience, my son's kindergarten teacher embraced diversity, loved sharing all cultures to class and encouraged children to be bilingual. Amazing teacher! At the end of the day, he even has the kids say good bye in as many languages as possible (the kids know atleast, 10+ ways to say good bye: on their own.) He has a Doctorate and stresses how important it is to speak as many languages as possible. Children, have no inhibitions. It's harder to learn as an adult. Foreign Languages are required in schools as a prerequisite to graduation. Colleges require it and it is such a bonus later in life. His teacher even sent two versions of information home in English and in Polish ( I think that's shows respect) The school news letter has it in two languages together (Spanish..why this was singled out?) Lastly, He was given a book in Polish and asked to have it translated, he always asked how to say many words.

[quote=Cardno85]Supposedly if you speak a second language to your child they are likely to pick up on any mistakes you make. So it is better to speak your first language with the child.

Children are sponges. They are able to learn both languages without accent, confusion, it increases your ability to learn (smarter).. I think it's truly a disservice not to have children learn as many languages as possible and continue to reinforce their heritage and culture.

A couple I know adopoted two twins from the Ukraine, 12 years old, the new parents are 62 and 56. I'm very troubled about their approach to teaching the children English..They DO NOT want the kids speaking Russian. The kids came to my home on Sunday and "the mom", asked that NO Russian be spoken to them. They have called the orphanage and they actually taped the conversation so they could secretly have them translated? I don't think it will confuse or delay their ability to learn English.

Love / What is your opinion on the Polish Ladies in Krakow? [82]

But I have experienced this inferiority complex with Polish Ladies outside Poland several times. Manifested by sarcasm, criticism, smart-assed comments, and general disrespect, and poor low-level communication.

Should I even bother going to Krakow?

John, I think it might be best to stay home and re-group. Attitudes may be a reflection on how your presenting yourself. It sounds like you need to evaluate if your ready for any interaction with a WOMAN...Being happy within yourself would be a start.

UK, Ireland / Polish man sought after murder of Irish man! [36]

If it was not for mass immigration these Poles would not be in Ireland to commit murder. Capisce?

Your supposed logic is ridiculous! Save it, I don't think the capability of any sensibility will ever be possible. Illiterate, as well....

News / Polish transfer of Family Estate in Will? [14]

plk123

the will can be challenged there just like in the US.. there is really no way to 100% proofing it.

True, but my grandfather bullet proofed his will. It was impossible to challenge. Trust me, some tried. He hired the best of the best. Somehow, no one was able to go further with challenging the will. It was settled in 5 months, suppose to take 3..

News / Polish transfer of Family Estate in Will? [14]

Yesterday, was Father's Day! We called Tata in Poland to wish him a special day and tell him how much we love him. Blind sighted: he conveyed that he was meeting with an attorney today to leave us the family home and has excluded his brother ( he was given property when first married). He wanted my husband to get off the phone and tell me right away. My husband and I had tears in our hearts. Question: Legally we want to ensure that it is air tight, so no problems later. Recently, I dealt with the loss of my grandfather and almost my mother. It is the most unpleasant thing to deal with. I can only think of my loss and other's only care about $$$ (truly wished I had gone to Poland for a reprieve). When anything monetarily is involved the claws come out. In the US, A Power of Attorney is named in the will and an Estate Attorney carries out all distribution and legalities. My question is this: What are the proceedings in Poland. I never want to go through what I have with my family again. How do I inquire and pay to have all the legal work and personal wishes of my Tata honored?

POLISH POTATO PANCAKES

I made this over the weekend.. I made a Polish Beef stew/gravy, red peppers, onions, mushrooms and served over (Placki ziemniaczane-Potato pancakes), Place a dollop of sour cream. Time consuming, but easy. This is how I serve the potato pancakes. Smacznego!

Life / Are Polish people civilised or not? My thoughts... [52]

girls on the other hand are so up themselves that its not even funny. I know they are good looking - but they appear to be quite arrogant... shaggable but not dating material.

taxes are being hiked to pay for these unemployed migrant workers.

guys that come to Ireland to be rather obnoxious, rude and very loud and to be honest intimidating

This is quite an astounding overview, of Polish People.. I really can't believe the audacity to go on Polish Forum and ask an objective opinion? To make such a generalization, makes one believe perhaps, the problem is within yourself. Lack of confidence, no self-respect ("shagging"), to assume your tax dollars are supporting migrant workers. Perhaps, present your case with facts: demographics and fiscal figures. Seanus

Impressed very diplomatic reasoning.

UK, Ireland / England, Dirty, Expensive and a dangerous place to live? [205]

I was in London. It wasn't necessarily, dirty, but it wasn't pristine with cleanliness.. I travelled to town by the tube. I didn't feel it was dangerous per se. People stare A LOT. Apparently, I look American by my teeth and hair color? It is very expensive.. Harrod's, very nice restaurants and shows. American money is painful to exchange. I didn't like the rates-yikes. I was at a Doctor's home as a guest, so I'm not well versed in how dangerous it is living in different areas.

Love / Need advice with Polish girl, I like her but she has a boyfriend. [114]

Insecurity, co-dependency, infidelity, dishonesty within one's self, self-pity. Remember, when it's right you will know. Asking the above is a vital sign of potencial heartbreak. We all want to be happy.. The problem is, when it's not right, we think he/she will change and we disillusion ourselves into believing it will. Take PF advice..

Language / Suggestions for Children learning Polish [25]

My husband was from Poland but he passed away when our daughter was 14 mos.

My condolences to you and your daughter. In honor of your late husband, teach and expose your daughter to her culture and language. It may seem daunting, but try to continue with your Polish, expose her to your Polish community (I"m not sure where you are?) There should be schools, Polish Homes, Churches. This Forum is excellent because both languages are spoken. The best is what your doing: taking her to Poland. At this age, they're sponges for another language. Plan on this as often as you can. Look into children's books and DVD cartoons are a great way. My kids loved their "grandpa Tata." He didn't speak English, but trust me they communicated with a natural bond. Gestures and the context of words fall into place and make sense. Listen. I'm on the same journey. Continue your belief that he is with her-because he is and always will be.

News / Polish priest publishes sex guide [97]

When you join the Catholic Church it's to give and honor God only and that is your calling when you forgo Celibacy. Luther felt compelled to offer the Lutheran religion which does allow marriage and instead of a Priest a Pastor. A Priest needs to understand their inner desires and how they want to honor the higher power. I highly doubt the reversal of Celibacy within the Catholic Church?

The book published by Franciscan Friar reinforces that it's ok to be open with sex when married. Good concession to reinforce. Perhaps, people won't feel inhibited due to religion-that's good..Qualified? He says his credentials come from counseling married couples (perhaps, that was quite educating?) He goes as far as saying it should be "saucy, surprising and fantasy packed?")... Backed by Catholic Church... If any PF members get to read it- enlighten us with synopsis..

Life / Top 3 Most Important Things about which polish dentists will LIE to you bigtime [46]

Harry: The tooth is gone..He literally has a surgeon handling it? The process will even take several months. My husband thinks this is reasonable, considering the lack of care a in Poland. He equates time=$. I did look into private insurance extensively.. The US is in dire peril over our Health System. Our Private Insurance: A few #"s $18,000., base $10,000 deductible, co-pays per visit/RX....Potentially, yearly, minimum of $20-$30K. No joking! Perhaps, Poland is an option. Sixty million don't have health insurance. That's a crisis. I believe in Socialized medicine if you factor the costs and pitfalls in US. Dental alone, is $90 a month, but doesn't include copays and the services not covered by plan..

Life / Top 3 Most Important Things about which polish dentists will LIE to you bigtime [46]

Curious: Polish Dentists..? Mixed reviews here @PF. Personal experience: My husband has straight nice teeth, but since coming to US he needs extensive repair to teeth. I don't know what happened in Poland, but after an unfinished root canal (tooth fell out) TG it was in back where you can't see. We have excellent dental insurance and basically, they have to do an implant $4,000.00 (W/insurance out of pocket). He has described dentistry as not the best? I've heard of others going there just because it is inexpensive? He's looking forward to US dentistry. I joke that he will look more American..Why is that? When in Europe, people new I was American by my teeth?

Love / Need advice with Polish girl, I like her but she has a boyfriend. [114]

First, her relationship is in trouble with her Polish boyfriend. She likes the attention from you; if she's lacking it in her current relationship. She has crossed a line with you with kissing, sleeping with you and telling you how she feels. Now, she needs to be honest with herself as to what she wants. Don't get involved until she figures it out. May get your heart broken if this continues. You obviously like her or you wouldn't be asking what the next step should be.
