History / Inka 1946.... Polish Heroine [3]

There seems to be more than the usual war films on TV at the moment. Obviously to coincide with the special anniversary/commemorations going on around now.

Among these was yesterday's Inka 1946, which is about a seventeen year old girl. Although to my mind she had the strength of a lion and was a courageous woman.

I'm just wondering if the folks on the forum can give a little insight. The film shows brutal images, obvious abuse of power, failures in the justice system and little compassion.

UK, Ireland / "Polish ambassador warns - think twice about coming to Britain for work " [126]

it's true to say that i do want these people back. but at the moment the market can't handle them. the country is doing quite well at the moment. when things are sorted out in future (i don't know when) i expect the country, pl, to make another leap forward. however, i don't think those who come back are superskilled... not by any stretch of the imagination.

edit: ok, i've just seen your last post, nika.

Travel / Alcohol on trains in Poland [40]

and now I believe you are exagarating the influx of weapons from the East, too

how can i be exagerating when i didn't give a figure.

but if they are available as a normal good and not only through black market anybody can get them just like...

high powered gas fired weapons are available and have been for some time. it would be possible to kill with these weapons, but i've never heard of such a thing on the news.

It wouldn't be wise to wave a bb gun about though as the police use more effective firearms.

Travel / Alcohol on trains in Poland [40]

this is why I am very much against easy access to weapons in Poland

We had better close the Russian and Ukrainian borders then. Those who want them will get them.

UK, Ireland / Moving to england from Poland? I'm making a documentary [23]

.all held doors open for eachother..

Don't count on that happening much here. On the other hand get yourself up north (uk that is) and you'll find that they hold doors open too.

In Poland holding doors open usually occurs among groups of people who know each other or are familiar.

Life / Expensive brand retail outlets in Poland - how do they survive? [19]

The Poles just aren't adventurous enough to try some new brands.

Heinz beans (don't laugh) would be a case in point. Polish folk won't buy them because they have no idea what to do with them. Some serious advertising is required for a lot of food items.

But it is true to say that Poles won't stray from the path even when faced with obvious quality.
The idea of Brits eating chips with everything doesn't help much either. It's difficult to convince others when your own cuisine is often derided

Expensive clothes shops seem to have a slow, but steady flow of buyers. I imagine that some are trying to stick it out until the good times come. BHS is an example of getting it wrong though. In their case they entered the market too early.

News / Polish public property to be destroyed by Italian company to set up a pub. [30]

Plac Bema in Wroclaw was a park. Now it is the half empty, seemingly unwanted Google building.
The voice of the masses will be ignored in the sometimes wasted effort to create jobs.
Or is it some kind of legacy the mayor is trying to create for himself.
The word 'backhander' also comes to mind too.
