Food / Polish Food Menu for a School Project! [18]

Really? Never happens to me. I live not 5 minutes from like 10 huge strawberry farms. I plan on working on one of them (giving the people baskets and they pay me, thats just the one thing I know I'll do, other jobs are included). I'll be able to ride my bike down there so it would take about 30 minutes, and then the way back is all up hill so I can get some training for soccer.

Plus I get all the strawberries I can carry home at the end of the week. Hehe :)

Whats that food called, its like a yogurt, smashed strawberries with lots of sugar and some sour cream. My mother and I make it all the time. It has to be the best thing in the world for a hot summer day. Especially after chilling in the refrigerator.

News / Dealing with constant insults against Polish [323]

The winners write the history books. Its the cause of all stereotypical problems for today. Polish were just hit very hard. Most people in the US still think half of Poland is Jweish. They don't teach about the rest of the world at all in the US. They talk about US involvments in WW1 and 2, but never about any other country. Its always US did this or that. That and other countries do the same thing.

This leads to many assumptions. It's nobody's fault really, they just haven't been taught right. Thats why most of what I know today, I learned on my own. I just have a need to learn as much as I can so I don't sound like an ******* asking questions like: "Do all French women have hairy pits? Do polar bears come from Poland? Why does Russia hate everyone?" and so on.

French women are just like all others, polar bears are in NORTH POLE!!!, and the Russian Government gives Russian people a bad name. They are generally just like us Poles, they like their food, Vodka, and parties. :)

Don't believe the history books :)

Life / They say Polish people are fast-learners and can easily adjust... [11]

Nice post :)

It's very true in my mind. Every other nation that was under control of others for so long was never seen again. We are one of a kind. How many total years were we controlled by others?

Even the Roman Empire eventually crumbled, but we are still here. From 966 A.D we are still here. The only other country I can think of is, well Israel, and even then most of her people lived in Poland at one point. I think we rubbed off on them :)

Food / Polish Food Menu for a School Project! [18]

I like you already. :)

Hate pre-cooked foods. I love to eat my food fresh and not let it go to waste in the freezer. Everyone should eat like this. Buy what you need for that day and eat it. Not buy a ton of crap that you might never eat.

Strawberries are the greatest things to happen to Earth. I love them, and I pick them at my grandmother's house all the time. :) Can't get enough of them. :)

Life / Popular Polish Actors [23]

I live in the US so I only get to watch what my lovely Grandmother sends me, and it is usually the classics. Non-the-less, they are amazing movies. The 3 I named are my favorites.

Language / "polish pig" - is it offensive? [41]

I know quite a number of police officers, won't say how :) , and they all seem to be in shape. Well in better shape than the average working man.

Language / "polish pig" - is it offensive? [41]

Would you rather have a cop working by the book or a cop who just might get a little pissed off at you just because you are different? US cops are notorious for that: beating up non-whites I mean, or just because you speak a different language. I'd personally feel safer with robo-cops running around instead of "hate you because your different" police officer.

Language / "polish pig" - is it offensive? [41]

They like to be different. One day someone made a joke calling them the po-po and I guess it caught on. I mean I called my American friends "hamburgers" before and now all the Candians, Germans, Russians, and pretty much all foreign kids at my school are doing it.

(personally, I think McDonald's ruined the US, everyone keeps getting fatter :( )

Language / "polish pig" - is it offensive? [41]

Seriously? Why? I can't figure out why the US calls them pigs.

Because there is a stereotype that all cops are overweight doughnut eating "pigs"

they are also called: the nine oh, cherrytops, po-po, the man

Life / Popular Polish Actors [23]

Nope, sadly all the Polish movies I have watched are old Polish classics, that became famous around Europe in their time.

Potop, With Fire and Steel, LEgacy of Steel.....

All those actors would be elderly by now, and the older ones back then might have died. Srry I couldn't help more. :(

Life / What are Poles going to do if there are to live with other nations? [109]

what is going to do the poles when they have to live with africans asians south americans ..............i think they will not tolerate that and they will be racist to this people

All countries are always racist when there is a sudden influx if immigrants. While some people are educated enough to realize that racism is wrong, most will let it get the bets of them and complain. Look at America: her first big wave of immigrants were the Germans and Polish, and they hated them for working for such cheap wages. Then the Irish came, and even the German and Polish immigrants hated them, they worked for half of what the other immigrants did. (Potato famine times). This is where "Gangs of new York" takes place if you've seen it. :)

Now its the Mexicans. Everyone is pissed that they are taking jobs, but these are much worse immigrants. Many of them are illegally crossing the border. Plus there are millions of them, second biggest language in US and in 10 years will probably be the most spoken language in the US.

History / Concentration camps: where did all the birds go? [10]

I was kind of pissed, when in 9th grade American History here in the US they never once mentioned gulags. All it was was teh concentration camps. Yes, nothing more. No details. How are we truelly supposed to understand what they went through if we don't know? Also with the gulags. How many Polish men/women/children went through the same horrors, only in frozen Siberia? and Ukranians of course, along with many others.

Polonia / Germans: Do Poles like them or dislike them? [217]

Oh boy. Just what we need. Another Eminem/Slim Shady.

To tell you the truth, he was probably better than most black rappers ever were or ahd the potential to be. What I'm still trying to figure out is why I'm talking about rappers?

Travel / Places to visit Poland for the New Year? [30]

When I was younger, I can't remember much, my parents took me to Poland. Sadly I can only remember petting and feeding geese. Can't remember cities or any other wonderful places i see pictures of. Plan on making a visit though. Hopefully this summer.

Food / Common Pastry in Polish Bakery? [19]

You will find "pączki" in every bakery. They are round donuts without a hole in the middle with prune, raspberry or other fruit filling inside.

My God, I haven't had those in forever. If anyone can bake some for me it would be very nice :) Too bad Erie, PA doesn't have a Polish bakery anywhere. We have a Russian candy shop with Polish chocolates, but no bakeries. :(

Polonia / Germans: Do Poles like them or dislike them? [217]

since u are here, maybe u can clarify for us. Does most of the German population still hate/dislike/think negatively of Poland? or is it the other way around?

History / Katyn- forgiven and forgotten? [111]

The Poles who were deported to Siberia from the East were primarily settlers from the Polish Army who defeated the Communists. Stalin wanted revenge (although this defeat allowed him to gain ultimate asendancy in Russia as he held back from attacking Poland with his Army).

correct, Stalin was the defeated General at a major battle, and was personally humiliated by teh defeat.

I assumed the story of the 'Miracle on the Vistula' was common knowledge to Poles?

Yes it is, well it should be. I live in the US and its common knowledge to me.

Food / Is there McDonalds, KFC, Pizza Hut etc in Poland? Food survey. [222]

thats because McDonald's hasn't come to Poland with large numbers yet. but then again it won't be so popular

we love our own food- so unless they start serving Pierogi and knedle (spelling??) i doubt fast food will catch on. knedle i meant dumplings ( i can't spell, srry :) )

so we will stay slim compared to Americans. I only see common obesity among Polish elderly, never the young. but the elderly deserve to be obese, they've been on this earth too long and have gone through too much **** and they can do what they want. Whether its drive 5 miles an hour or complain about today's youth....they earned it.

News / The Polish Economy and its future [101]

yes but you always hear everyone who isn't Polish complementing us on how hard we work, so for now that rule doesn't apply. It probably will in the future, though.

USA, Canada / American attitude towards Poland [89]

to be honest, adults are more open to people of Polish descent than kids are in school. If you plan on having kids this might be a problem - teasing, hopefully nothing more.

History / Poland has paid £68 Million for helping UK in WW2 [168]

after WW1, not many French, if any, gave a rats ass about the Polish. Harsh, but true. They were worried about their own country. It was the US President, can't belevie i forget his name right now, who came up with the idea of giving Poland back its independence with his 18 points. This was also where the idea of "The League of Nations" was born. That was rejected and after WW2 the UN was formed.

(i'm drawing a blank right now, can't remember whether it was 13 points or 18, or the President's name...srry) but the story is true. taught in US history classes to all 9th graders. very basic stuff here.

News / The Polish Economy and its future [101]

Poland having one of the highest IQ averages for any country in the world, 2nd in Europe to Germany and i believe 4th in the world, the future is very bright. Start with the young ones and they will build the future. Poland will be seeing a huge influx of Copernicuses in the next 10-20 years. Art, Culture, and Technology will grow rapidly and Poland will be one of the greats in Europe once again. Thats what I believe :)
