UK, Ireland / Irish Thoughts on Britain and the British and vice versa [53]

The British Government tried giving the country away, but the Loyalists (that is Loyal to the British) wouldn't have it. Crazy and impossible.

exactly. so we have moved on (finally) from this :)

Life / Under 18 curfew in Poland [16]

A curfew is not really a solution.

Its education from a very early level.

Its getting involved in the community - get them before they get bored and get into anti social behaviour

Im one to talk - I wouldnt be volunteering to do this - I know its something that requires paid, trained proffesstional people to engage the community with full support (it aint coming) from funders (gov't local business)

It is an investment to be sure - the stats speak for themselves (anti social behavior is on the rise and rise!)

a curfew is not a proactive solution and is not a really good reactive solution.

after suggesting the above proactive - what would i suggest as reactive?

open centres where they can 'hang' out in a safe, monitored envoirment. Show films, tv, computer games. (all under CCTV to ensure safetyy and issue fines and communtity service to YOUNG age offenders! forget prison - thats a cost to community rather than a cost to the offender

Life / How much do you HATE POLISH PEOPLE and POLAND [1260]

hehe thats stirring it a bit :) (but it got your attention:P)

I love em to be honest but ive realized that over the past few weeks that it has seen many anti Polish sentiment. Sentiment that is largely based on Racial fear and ignorance.

This can be said of any group of people. For I note that some Poles hate Germans and Russians (no it is not different - people all claim to be JUST in hating another race)

I would be interested to hear your views on Racism in General. BY POLISH and BY OTHER NATIONALITIES (not necessarily against poles)

The Irish would have held this view against the English and vice versa not so long ago BUT that has subsided to a sporting rivallry and we are 'best buddies' now.

Life / CAN NON-POLISH UNDERSTAND POLAND? [17]

Heya, had a disagreement with GF about 'NOT knowing what is going on in Poland'

That the news is not enough (even though were talking about political scandals and the fact that poland is not alone in this department!)

I believe it IS possible to know what is going on in a country by reading up on, meeting the people and researching about it (like I have) and by following the news!

Then she said the news i would get would be different!!!!

Work / For all English teachers in Poland (who work for only $1000 a month) [102]

the subject being about how much they get paid. It is set as a standard salary for them all. Native english speakers CAn get good deals if they now where to go but generally it is not much better is what i am hearing.

As to it being love - thats a sweeping statement but i guess there has to be some thinking like that. I know if it was me, it would be to get away from Ireland and just BE somewhere else. N ulterior motive.

Pay is relative. If they paid me enough that i could enjoy a living - im happy. I couldnt work there to pension age (as it is) but that could and will change over time (like SO many other countries - lets be honest & realistic, Poland is slowly going UP not DOWN.

THe current gov't is FAR from perfect but look at the few GOOD things. setting up investigations into corruption! look what that revealed!! shutting down the spy agency! ousting former secret police! these are good things and steps in the right direction.

Positive progress is slow and poland is no different. Progress is SLOWLY being made.

UK, Ireland / English, Irish, Scots: They're All One, Genes Suggest [69]

Yes BUT you and your neighbour could be TWINS but if you disagree about the colour of the garden fence - that is cause enough to be enemies!

The Irish, Scottish and English may have similar genes (no surprise to me btw) but it is the SOCIO-PSYCOLOGICAL background MAKES them VERY different to each other.

Sure Polish, German, Bulgarians and Croats are genetically 'similar' by the same token, but you try telling them that! :)

good post!
