I see Garmins, TomToms and all the other brands in the adverts all the time with Polish menu and 37 EU countries listed as features. I have played with a few at Saturn and they seem to have everything you would need. I can only imagine that 'maybe' if you bought 'some' of them outside of PL the language might not be in there but some models for sure have many language options.

I faced this in the opposite direction a while back. I didn't change and would have made a bunch if I did...but now it is swinging back the other way and I would have to change again.

I never know what is the best choice. I kept thinking back then it was temporary and never imagined it going to nearly 2 so I kept waiting for the rebound...it took a LOT longer than I thought but my hopes are it will go above what it was when I came and I will make it up.

It seems your priority is to make your PLN count for as much USD as possible for when you leave. I have the opposite idea. I want my USD to equal more PLN so when I need to use it here I get more out of it. If I was planning to go home very soon I would be on your line of thought.

I guess if I wanted the most USD for my PLN I might cash out now. It seems it will go up. And...if it starts dropping just put it back. Once again when it started climbing I didn't believe it would keep going. I was just afraid if i made any mig moves then it would reverse and undo or lose for me.

As was said it is a gamble.

Wow. I wasn't aware of the allegations until I looked into it more. I was also surprised at this reluctance to release the names of the collaborators from the secret police archives. I guess you dont want someone's innocent family being attacked but if some of those people are still around (and a lot are and not that old) they should be held accountable.

If Walesa is guilty that will be a huge blow to Polish history. How will people reconcile Solidarnosc and the change he led with any collaboration he may have done?

I have a feeling this is one of those things that will never be answered fully and clearly.

If you live in a place you learn where the free ones are so you can avoid the extortion. As a tourist it is not as easy. Try Malls, Restaurants and Airports etc for the best chance at free...the train stations and undergrounds in Warsaw at least are all pay. And yeah somehow in places where you don't have to pay the toilets still get cleaned. Public toilets are never sparkly though.

I can see this being an issue in the Warsaw underground etc but as I said I have seen free toilets in plenty of other places I have been outside of Poland and they are not destroyed just like most places don't have armies of security guards in every shop and people are not running out the doors thieving all day long(in fact all I have ever seen 'Ochrona" people do is harass homeless guys once in a while and stand around looking angry). I think it is because it is 'the way we have always done it' coming from the communist days when everyone got a job and lots of things like this were created to justify something.

I agree with most of what you wrote except this. Polish girls are no more loyal or disloyal than any others and also no more moral than any other. There are girls who do and girls who don't cheat all over the world. It's about the individual not a culture.

I have to agree the behavior of male users of public toilets here is less than polite. I feel bad for those old women who have to clean up after these gits. Actually even the free one's in the mall that are not automatic are the same. There must be a flushing aversion. I wonder if they do the same at home?

Right...because there is some myth that Polish women are more loving, honest and ethical than others and it is simply not true. Nor is is true that French or Italian women are less faithful etc. I have met wonderful, caring Polish women and I have met evil slutty ones. It's the same all over the world. Even the cultures who claim to be more 'family' oriented have loads of divorce and cheating going on.

This is not an insult to Polish girls...it is just a statement that they are not somehow more faithful than others. Cheating knows no borders ;)

I don't have answers but to clarify for those who might...is he a US citizen or a Mexican citizen that you married in the USA?

Hopefully someone will have the legal and simple (yeah right) way to deal with it but there is no way anyone in Poland would know you were married in the USA unless you told them. In the US there is no central registry of marriage. It is done by County(district) and there are over 3000 of them so it is simply not possible for someone to just "search" and find it unless they know exactly where you were married.

Where do you live? If there is a mall with a Saturn or MediaMarkt nearby they might have one (it is hit and miss) and the little shops with electrical parts sometimes do as well. (Plac Grzybowski just north of Swietokszyska between Jana Pawla and Marszalowska has a bunch of small shops and at least one WAS an electrical shop a few months back.

Exactly...it is the kind of thing I have said and then been accused of hating Poland. I do not hate Poland at all but there are a lot of self propelled myths here.

I understand why a lot of them occur but denial of them and lashing out as those who point it out is common.

Lot's of places manage without a full time bathroom attendant and entry fees. It is just another money making scam like a lot is in this world.

Ah good idea I forgot about those shops. There is one in the center under the GUS tram stop as well..lots of computer and electrical shops. Might be closer for you. Tram 10,17 and maybe some others I forget from the center.

Or you can just avoid the pay toilets as there are always alternatives if you look. In the Warsaw underground there is a pay toilet about 30m from the Zloty Tarasy mall which is full of free toilets which are MUCH cleaner but people line up at the filthy pay one often. Restaurants and malls are good bets for a free loo.

It's principle not a financial issue. I am also not sure but I would bet those old ladies only keep half and fork the other half over to the owner who makes a little profit for nothing.

Why not charge for walking on the sidewalk or walking into a shop or looking at the window display?

You are taking something that is free in most places and slapping a tariff on it and it irritates some people.

If I have to pee and it's all there is I pay...but if you can walk 30m for free and have a cleaner bathroom why not? You also arent limited as to how much paper they allow you if you take a dump in the free ones.

It really isnt something I think people worry about all day...just irritating when it comes up and say you don't have change or want a clean toilet (and the paid toilets with attendants are NEVER clean at least in central Warsaw)
