Please help! I'm an American living in Warsaw for the year and I only have one rather clunky adapter that I inherited and more devices that that which I would like to use. Where could I go in Warsaw to buy an adapter. I've been browsing around malls but so far haven't found anything like Circuit City of Radio Shack in which to purchase one. Any ideas?

Thanks!

Where do you live? If there is a mall with a Saturn or MediaMarkt nearby they might have one (it is hit and miss) and the little shops with electrical parts sometimes do as well. (Plac Grzybowski just north of Swietokszyska between Jana Pawla and Marszalowska has a bunch of small shops and at least one WAS an electrical shop a few months back.

Take the metro (now that the whole line is working) to the famous market at Wolumen. Besides the trade in illicit DVD's there is a series of electronics shops where they sell all kind of electronic spare parts of every imaginable kind.

And much cheaper than in any mall.

Ah good idea I forgot about those shops. There is one in the center under the GUS tram stop as well..lots of computer and electrical shops. Might be closer for you. Tram 10,17 and maybe some others I forget from the center.

Yep that is also true. In the underground passage under the GUS tram stop there is a whole range of electronics and PC spares shops.

Do you need a converter or an adapter? When I say converter, I mean something which will drop the voltage from 220v to 110v. If you need a converter, your best bet is to try allegro.pl. If you need an adapter, the best bet is Saturn in Zloty Tarasy because it is so central.

Saturn in Zloty Taras indeed have some adaptors. A good place for converters is the Warszawska Gielda Elektroniczna in the pedestrian tunnel under the tram stop called 'GUS' at the junction of al. Niepodleglosci and al. Armii Krajowej. There are a few shops there that have them - good to check the going rate on Allegro first.

Be prepared for it to fall to bits..or simply stop working after a short time...Polish electrical goods...one of my few complaints about living in Poland...i Reckon i am on my third kettle now , and lost count of the number of torches , mobile phone chargers and car phone chargers i have bought , only to have them stop working weeks later...

Really? What are you doing to the things? My kettle is 8 years old and works fine. I've never needed to buy a charger for any mobile phone for any reason other than the original charger getting lost/left somewhere. Still using the same torch I bought 12 years ago.

Now if you want to complain about the prices of electrical goods in Poland, I'll happily join in the complaints about that!
