History / Drang nach Osten. [79]

You know Im glad that I live on an Island, whilst we have been plundered and whatnot in the past, Im sooooooooooo glad that we never have to argue about boarders :)

Can you imagine the UK being renamed Zjednoczone Królestwo and being overrun with cabbage farms? Oh the horror.

History / Drang nach Osten. [79]

We're surrounded by water so it helps to keep the riff raff out :)

I guess all the militant Muslims and families of immigrants living in peoples' attics are good swimmers. ;)

Life / Is it expensive to give birth in Poland? [26]

Oct 9, 08, 14:01 Report #8

I cant believe u have to bribe to be good taken care of... It's 2008!! We live in iceland now but since everything is going to hell here we'd like to relocate but Id lose all my rights here so I wouldnt have any money after birth :(

People are greedy all over. It is a fact. Some cultures accept this more and Poland has a left over culture of bribes from the Communist times. There is an effort to clean this up in the public eye and in certain sectors but the reality is behind closed doors in many areas it is still very much alive. it is not exclusive to Poland but present in all post communist areas. It is also common in African, Arab and Chinese (specifically as most asian cultures do not bribe commonly) cultures. Now I did not say Westerners never bribe but it is not as common nor as accepted...that isn't racism just a fact. I often get irritated by it and proclaim I will never pay anyone again but sometimes you just cave in and get on with it.

I have bribed when I really needed something and not bribed and paid the price in worse service...and yeah sometimes they won't go for it so it isn't like you have to pay everyone you encounter money but it is not a myth as some would have you believe.

Travel / Polish roads as recorded by myself earlier today [74]

You guys focus on the past a lot. Do we have such laws now? No. Christians did this a hundred years ago...yadda yadda...how about people NOW??

In addition I have said ALL cultures are racist...Poles just more than many.

Your comprehension skills are lacking.

Life / Unusual Sightings in Warsaw - millions of black crows... [22]

What are the bigger black ones with the orange or yellow piece around the neck?

They seem to be quite aggressive for a bird. I guess I am use to pidgeons and their indifference. They just walk between your feet and don't seem to be the least bit bothered by people.

Life / You know you have been living in poland too long when.... [73]

dnz:

You start to accept the terrible food as normal.

Are you kidding? Polish food is the best!

It's an expat thing...99% of expats will agree with him. I know most Poles will simply say I am a racist and not face it but Polish food does lack flavour and variety compared to many places. Calm down as this is not a personal insult to any Polish person and I am aware the farmer who grew or raised this food has one of the hightest IQs in Europe and I don't think the food is bad because he is stupid or catholic...better?

News / March of Tolerance in Krakow [478]

They are taught here that it is an illness. You cannot undo peoples' indoctrination most of the time.

News / March of Tolerance in Krakow [478]

Here meaning Poland in general. The most common attitude I hear from people is that they believe it is an illness. They are taught this in (some)schools, church and by their parents.

I know I know...this is where you say something like "BS".

News / March of Tolerance in Krakow [478]

Some people want so bad for it to be some disease or abnormal thing they look for any little detail they can form to that end. I cannot understand why they are so worried or interested in what adults do in a relationship as long as they arent harming other people.

News / Polish economy, the US Dollar, the PLN and the Polish real estate bubble. [25]

Yeah because for some of us living in Poland with US money in the bank it helps us to have a higher dollar...it isn't some hatred for Poland or a wish for Poles to have less money...it just benefits us here. And except for holidays the average Poles that lives and shops in Poland wont know the difference.

I didn't see any Poles feeling bad for me when it went from 4 to nearly 2 but now you want to complain? I hope the dollar keeps going up as it makes my life easier but that doesn't mean I hate Poland.

You can find 'studies' to support any opinion you want. People worry too much about these things.

Am I the only one who thinks it isn't so nice to talk to a lady about such things in such terms? In public I should say, as I know that sounds a bit hypocritical to my live and let live sexual policy.

News / Polish driver follows GPS directions into lake ! [30]

What is the deal with all of the people following a GPS into bad spots? Don't they look out the windshield?

It would be funny if it happened once in a blue moon but it is so common. Jesus.

Life / Polish people start families at early age-how true is this? [20]

Even a lot of Warsaw city girls feel that if they aren't hooked up by 25 they are in trouble. I have heard it commonly. I guess it is true that the older you get the less options you have as more and more of your peers will be married etc.

Life / Do some folks have no shame? Krakow experience. [43]

I have seen this twice in Warsaw...once an old homeless guy and once a young drunk guy...in public with a lot of people around...crazy! And they were not covered you could see the "loaf" being baked in full view.
