UK, Ireland / My friends upset at Brits.... [51]

Arctic Paul - does your mate realise that these Brits are kind of like the sub-human variant, and that some of us are actually quite lovely?

I'm working on that.
On Saturday I'm having a dinner party for a few friends (Dominick and Agnieszka included) then we're going to a local pub. The type of place where loud mouthed racist idiots do not go.

A lot of the hate you find in the UK is from people who like to blame anyone except themselves for the fact that they're too lazy to get jobs.

Yes. But lets not trivialize it.
Germany in the 1930s....and all that.

I'll ask him about the exact location/time of the swan story.

Yes. No idea why niimmigration was given credit for the quote.... I made a point of ignoring him (like usual).

Life / Which area of Poland speaks the least English? [12]

Hi.
If I wanted to go to the area of Poland that had the fewest speakers of English where should I go?

I'd like to throw myself into the deep end of speaking Polish. In Krakow every time I asked a question in Polish I got an answer in English!

I know Krakow is full of tourists and businesses ready to communicate in English but where is Polish the only real language?

Real Estate / Current state of the property market in Krakow [135]

But there is a myth that the Irish or British will "look after their own" and sack the foreigners first. (from my own experience)
It is economics not patriotism.
Would you not agree?

I totally agree.
The Poles and Baltic workers have earned a reputation for honesty and hard work that puts there UK workmates to shame.
Especially the under 25's.

It always disturbs me to see Polish University graduates doing non-skilled work. They deserve so much more.

UK, Ireland / Dating polish guys in London [35]

I would be pissed off if a woman showed interest in me because I was English.

It is a really shallow reason.

Never mind looks, personality or interests,,,, what is your nationality?

Sorry for my rubbish english, but i tried my best ^_^.

No apology necessary.
Excellent explanation.

Rozumieć and Mieć are 'To understand' and 'To have'.
To include them in a list of verbs relating to 'To see' is a major stretch.

Polish verbs of motion

I am finding the amount of verbs of motion confusing.

Some you use if it's a specific journey, others for transport, some for walking......

Is there a way to remember when to use jeżdżę and when to use jadę?

When to use chodzę, idę, pójdę.???

If anyone could help explain which to use when (and why) I would be eternally grapefruit.

Or an English speaker wanting to learn Polish?

If your an English speaker I can make many suggestions.
If your a Polish speaker you are absolutely spoilt for choice.

Language / Czesc, Jak sie masz. (Book for learning Polish). [7]

There is an EMPIK in Krakow.
It cost nearly £5 for a Times newspaper that was 2 days old..... and it wasn't even the Sat or Sun edition with all the supplements!

Language / Jechac or Jezdzic? [35]

Jechać is determinate, Jeżdzić is the indeterminate form of the verbs meaning 'to go by vehicle, ride, journey'.

Can anyone explain the appropriate usage of these verbs....
Examples would help a great deal.

Love / Why are Polish girls so emotional [16]

My mother sure was like that.. She'd cry over small things... then my dad would bash my face in..

We had a similar upbringing!

Michał.
I'm attempting to learn Polish, not Russian.
I don't care about Russian.
Why do you insist on injecting RUSSIAN into every thread you join in?

Life / Indian moved to Poland [532]

it has a vast variety of cultures n cuisines

....and each dish has its very own parasite that is certain to cause chronic diarrhoea and vomiting.

I spent nearly 4 months in India (Delhi, Goa, Mumbai) and I had food poisoning twice (out of a total of 3, in my life).
And I didn't find the food very good.

The quality of the basic ingredients was terrible.
The hygiene was a joke (a very unfunny joke).

Thailand had better tasting, better prepared, better cooked and better served versions of everything available in India.....plus hundreds more types of dish to try.

Love / How can I conquer a Polish woman? [84]

At a whorehouse in Krakow it cost 180 zl per hour for a Ukrainian.

Or so I'm reliably informed.

UK, Ireland / 10,000 Poles in UK for free abortions [58]

Its sad of course , but i would rather see 10,000 abortions than 10,000 unwanted children brought into the world to have an unhappy life...

Most of these 'unwanted' babies would be totally loved by their mothers once they had been carried to full term and born.

But I do agree with a womens right to chose.
The alternative is frightened and desperate girls paying dishonest and untrained CRIMINALS' to terminate the pregnancy in god knows where for an operating room.

Watch 'THE CIDER HOUSE RULES'.

It always seems to be MEN that have fanatically rigid views against abortion.

UK, Ireland / 10,000 Poles in UK for free abortions [58]

how the hell do you know "the most"? i bet the other way around. it takes a certqin mindset to have an abortion in the first place

I know because every woman who has a child, after first considering an abortion, loves the child and is thankful they decided against termination.

How many mothers wish they had had an abortion after living with their child for a time? Virtually none.

Why are you going out of your way to be as disagreeable and obnoxious as possible?
Hell of a coincidence that the very similar posts of gtd stopped around the time yours started. knbohead

Language / Plural nouns in the accusative? [30]

Warzywo (vegetable)
warzywa (vegetables)

How do I make the latter word accusative?

Any further examples to really help me understand the method would be of great use.

Language / Plural nouns in the accusative? [30]

I can't believe I asked that!
Of course ACCUSATIVE NEUTER/MALE INANIMATE REMAINS NOMINATIVE

Thread attached on merging:
Accusative case

Example
To jest pani Maria. Czy znasz panią Marię

To jest Robert Kowalski (Kowalski is treated as an adjective so is it)
Czy znasz Robertego Kowalskiego ???

Other names:
Agnieszka Nowak.
Jan Nowak.

Agnieszką

What names equal nouns?
Which equal adjectives?

UK, Ireland / No Irish Need Apply - Polish Builders get their own back [42]

Blazing Saddles
"We'll take the niggers and the chinks but we don't want the Irish!"

In my own experience I have found the Irish to be far less prejudiced than the Brits. But I've never been to Ireland so maybe I;ve only known the better types.

UK, Ireland / No Irish Need Apply - Polish Builders get their own back [42]

which Irish construction worker would like to work in Poland anyway ?

When I did a two week Polish language course in Krakow, last October, one of the students was an Irish construction worker/investor who had moved from Ireland to UK to Poland.

He seemed to believe that the investment of money plus time, sweat and know-how would yeild healthier returns in Poland than he was now expecting in UK or Ireland.

He was a great guy but he really struggled to make progress with the Polish. Stayed the entire length of the course and just kept trying. Tenacity.

Travel / Nice place to holiday in the North of Poland? [26]

Isn't AUGUSTOW in the South-East, Near LUBLIN?
It's along way from the Baltic coast.

Mt workmate had a week in Masuria last september and returned with a tan like he'd been to Barbados! He's been real lucky with the weather and caught a proper 'indian summer'!

If you spend an hour browsing through either LONELY PLANET or ROUGH GUIDE to POLAND I'm positive you'll find a place that fits your wishlist perfectly.
