it would be rather like we-wo-shch (when sh and ch are 'soft').
and polish 'ch' sound quite like dutch or german- no like 'k' :)

Life / Why do Polish people celebrate the name day? [11]
well... if the only answer is 'it's a tradition' without even trying to explain anything... than the best thing to do is to stop doing it. seriously. if you don't know why you are doing it (i.e. celebreting imieniny)- than don't do it.
and, personally- i've never understood it (despite i've been born and raised in poland) :|

And why not? It's a Polish tradition. Just like Thanksgiving is American one. But I don't think that anyone in Poland would think about questioning the right to celebrate it by Americans present in my country.

both forms are correct, but perfect form indicates that you would like to read it whole, from beginning to end- and imperfect indicates that you would like to 'perform act of reading'
"Lubię czytać książki"
I like reading books
This is repetitive action (you read a lot of books, not one book), so imperfect form is more adequate

History / 20th anniversary of abolishing food coupons in Poland! [2]
short translation: first food coupons were introduced in PRL (Polska Rzeczpospolita Ludowa= Polish Republic of People) in 1976, there were sugar coupons.
Meat was regimented (?) in 1981 (and later).
Monthly, you could get:
Two kilos of sugar, two and half kilos of meat for intellectual workers and 4 for physical workers and kids. Half of litre of vodka, exchangeable for a bottle of imported wine. 300 grams of washing powder, two bars of soap, 100grams of chocolate-like product, 250 grams of sweets, 30 litres of gasoline, 1 kilo of rice or grits, 1 kilo of flour, 12 boxes of cigarettes.
Pleas add coupons for boots, clothes, furniture etc.

well...
i see nothing wrong with sandals and (dark) socks. sure, white (or, in general, light colored) socks looks terrible (not only with sandals, but in general), but dark are ok. its definatly more comfortable than not-having socks
and, btw, its rather silly to laught on other people dress... especially on beach or, in general, on holiday... its not a bloody funeral, so no-one needs to be dressed 'officially'.
