Love / Polish Gay Life [142]

I still remember when Gay used to mean happy.
Anyway, what two or more consenting adults choose to do in the privacy of their own homes is their business.
I think Poland is a lot like Ireland when I was growing up, Homosexuality was almost like a disease which could be cured with a cigarette and a nice strong cup of tea. And I am surprised how much Irish attitudes have changed, especially in the bigger cities.

I think it will just be a matter of time before Poland are excepting.
P.S. I have been to gay parades in London and Amsterdam, it was great craic, all cool.

Genealogy / I have got alot of Polish DNA [51]

Hello LAGirl,
I am happy you are happy and I am impressed that you took the time to try and find out where you are from. And that you feel close ties with Polish culture and you are learning the language (I find the grammar difficult).

But a Polish DNA? I would be sceptical about that even being possible.
How much did you pay for the test?

Language / nice things to say to a girl in polish [103]

daj mi patyk do chodzenia" ? I think, exact translation but it doesn't sound right.
hhhmmm I thought there was a different word for walking stick and forest, and pritty girl (fit bird I think would be a better translation). It is one word with several meanings.... "luska" or something

Genealogy / Darrah, polish name?? [6]

I always thought "Dara" was an Irish name. It is in our mythology.

Genealogy / I have got alot of Polish DNA [51]

Because i do not think you would be able to find a Polish gene, perhaps a central, gene but a Polish gene. It makes me think of a cartoon gene with a big Polish moustache. Polish people have been mixing for 10s of thousands of years. I could be wrong. It just does not seem right and I do not have a TV ha ha ha

Guys, there is a pool of genes which is typical for Slavic nations such as Poles, Russians, Ukrainians.

You have just covered half the world.

something does not seem right about this, hhhmmmm.... ah well, Poles are gonna mix now ha ha ha

The world is populated by more than 6 billion people.

I know, everyone knows that, but geographically, you know.

UK, Ireland / Intercultural experiences of Polish migrants who work and live in the UK [26]

interesting topic

agreed

dear telefonitika
I see myself as a rather pro-active person but sometimes that is not enough when you want to 'force' someone to cooperation. Polish people are not kind of people that will voluntarily help you, especially when you want to discuss something else than how to claim benefits, how to complete aplication forms, where to find a job, etc. You can tell me that I m wrong but that is my personal expeience and nothing else. And what is more, I do not live in Sheffield. I live in York where the Polish community is definitely not as developed (if it is at all) as it is in Sheffield.

I think this messed up your points. I had not seen this post before and would have liked to have added my thoughts on the matter. It is a very hostile post, why?

Anyway if you are still interested we can discuss this matter further, am sure if you are a little patient it will pay off, all people do not react well to hostility.

I have lived in several countries. I am Irish, born in Dublin and I have worked in several parts of England at different stages and I never felt at home, I would definitely go so far to say I feel much more at home here in Poland (even with the language barrier) than I ever did in England. It is a cultural thing. I do not dislike a majority of English people, there is good and bad everywhere.

this thread is probably dead?

Life / Polish movies - what they are like? [34]

Sexmisja
Mis/Teddy Bear
Kingsajz
Great films for many reasons.
I like these films for there historical value aswell. These three films are satires of the times, funny as hell on the surface level and disturbing the deeper you go into them. I think it is difficult (if not impossible) for people who did not live in a communist country to understand what it was really like but I think these films are little insights. But if that is all too much they are also just good fun.

I will look out for the others offered on this thread, I do not remember all the names of the Polish films I have seen.

News / Why are foreigners coming to Poland and from which countries? [119]

American people are often adventurers

I remember hearing recently that hardly any Americans own passports.
I am not an American basher, I just thought that this was worth a mention. Who knows the way things are going Americans might need to que outside the Polish Embassy in the future for the chance to get a visa!

I do a lot of travelling and seldom meet Americans outside of the USA.

differences between AE and BE...

AE and BE is just the tip of the iceberg. It looks as if the English language will break away from itself in the not so distant future. Irish English for example we do not pronounce "th", it is a lot easier for people learning English not to say "th" as I believe that sound does not exist in any other languages.

The English gave us their language and we gave them back literature.
The only time (american and british) people think it is funny is for the words "thirty three and a third" ;)

UK, Ireland / EU integration of Polish nationals in the UK vs no surrender [43]

Barney

Good man, I was not going to write in this thread but I liked what you wrote.

I think FAS did a "know before you go" package, it might only be for the republic but it could help people. This is the Polish version

News / Come on EU lets keep it together. [20]

Keep the EU tight it works and for the most part we all work together nicely. Poland, Romania, Czech Republice lets unite and stay on top.

Yes agreed, I am pro Europe.
I believe it is our greatest chance of survival.

Yes of course, I will just clarify my point and I really must be off. Polish Forum is very addictive.
If we are to play with the big boys, India, China, America, Russia we need to get together other wise we will be lost. Fall through the cracks.

News / Come on EU lets keep it together. [20]

I would love to see Ukraine join. It will not be long before hoards of Ukrainian workers come here to Poland to fill the job vacancies. I think Poland has been rather unfair to them so far, that carp about giving them farming visas i.e. visas to work on farms, finding them working in factories and deporting them is just carp.

Excuse me ukpolska,
I did not see your thread, I came to this by other means.
I still can't really figure out how to use this Forum, for the time being I know enough to get in trouble and that usually does me. ha ha ha

I am getting better at this (he hopes) and I am impressed that the mediators put things in the correct place so quickly.
