Hi I'm new but thought I would make my first post, I'm a 23 year old brit living in Poznan and I can agree with most of the comments above. Poland is a land of oppotunity and theres plenty of fast cash to be made here providing that you have cash behind you and more than 2 brain cells to rub together. Ive been here since the summer and am renting a fairly decent apartment in a good part of Poznan. I drove over from the UK and have been having a great time. The main problems I have encountered is if you can't speak polish or only have limited ability there are quite a few people are very racist towards brits and charge extra for everything. The majority of the people I have met here are awesome and the society as a whole is far more civilised that that in england with teenage pregnancies and the chav culture almost unheard of. You can live well out here for not a lot of cash and the nightlife is amazing. The girls are also very pretty too although they don't like brits :( The roads are also terrible and the standard of driving is far lower than that in the UK with accidents happening when there is a slight sprinkling of rain. The police however are very lenient towards traffic offences unlike in the UK and if you drive a british car they just leave you alone. Forget all the stories about bribes etc because they just aren't true and you can usually out run them anyway if need be. If anyone is planning on moving here my advice would be to just go for it as britain seems to be in social decline and this place really is on the up!

in response to polanglik's question, I am a recruitment consultant working for a UK based company which relocated to Poznan back in July. I was given the choice of staying in the UK and driving 100 miles a day to work and back or coming to Poznan initially for 6 months. After speaking to my parents I decided to just go for it and havent looked back since. I'm 23 years old with no collateral or real savings. I'm looking to get into the real estate side of things whilst i'm over here and unlike England if you have an idea and a logical approach to how to implement your ideas Poland really is a country of oppotunity. I would also be interested in working as a Native speaker in my free time not so much from a money point of view but for the chance to meet new people. Any ideas?

The weather is a damn sight better than in the Uk as there are distiguishable seasons, The roads are terrible I will Agree and the food is different but you can get a fantastic steak here. The beer is good and the women are fantastic although I do get the impression they don't like british men, they seem to go with the skinheads or guys that walk like they are constantly carrying a television set,. Trains are crap in most countries and I just wouldn't use them as I hate public transport. and petrol is cheap enough here anyway so its easier to just drive.

Ive never once said that britain is the best country in the world since being here. I miss the good driving roads of devon and cornwall and my family but the UK really has gone down hill from the country it was 100 years ago when people could be proud of being british with a booming economy, fantastic manufacturing industry and a good empire. Now we have a country full of feral scum sucking retards who beleive that it is beyond their dignity to work and live at taxpayers expense. I really have noticed the difference in morals and values between the UK and Poland, the feeling of pride and the lack of teenager getting pregnant in order to get the easy life on a plate. England has gone to **** and I don't really have much national pride anymore. We have good roads and thats the only thing I can say in its favour... If anyone can think of anything please let me know. Oh although I don't like polish food at least its more adventurous than fried fish with fried potato which I equally despise.

Avoid the north west like the Plague! I'm from that area and I only go back when I really have to, South west is nice, Lincolnshire is cheap and Shropshires ok with nice countryside and good access to Birmingham, I also really wouldnt buy yet give it a few years and see what happens with the house prices.

The bread here is really strange it only seems to last a day, And trams thats a rather strange idea i've only seen them in Blackpool. Regarding the washing machine in the bathroom I found that rather strange too.

True the lake district is pretty! If you live in shropshire access to Birmingham is quite a bonus as there are many more oppotunities for work than in telford, cannock, shrewsbury etc all connected by good roads, Birmingham is a s---thole though and not worth living in!

Polish hospitals are excellent! I thought my kidney gave up the ghost a couple of weeks ago and within 5 hours I had an xray, ultrasound, saw a specialist and got fixed. A far cry from the hospitals in the UK, Most of the staff spoke fluent English too, This was at a state hospital. This was the one near Ikea (the M1 centre)

Customer service......
I had a massive problem opening a bank account, Went in asked what I had to do, Showed them all of my documents including passport and they gave me a form to fill out, Got the form filled out took it back and they gave me another to get filled out, took that one back and I was given yet another, Got that all sorted and bearing in mind this went on for several weeks, I took this form back and was told that there was nothing they could do as I was english. I explained to them that they saw my passport checked it and gave me loads of paperwork which I had filled out and signed by the relevant authorities and I was then told that its not their problem and to go away, This was after wasting several days of my time spending a fair bit of cash on parking, Not to mention the my time out of working where I could have been doing something constructive,

The service was appalling and they wondered why I was shouting at them... I dont shout often but this really wound me up.

I wonder if they could have helped me if there was some vodka involved......

You can't blame a non English speaker for hanging up on you, If a non english speaker called my office and tried speaking to me in for example Japanese I think I would hang up too! Have you tried saying good morning, Do you speak english? In polish when you call as opposed to just calling and expecting them to respond in english? I found this works a treat and they are much more willing to help,

Fair play then... I usually get a polish speaker to call for me, I must admit I find it annoying when non english speakers call my office and expect me to speak urdu or chinese, I cant help thinking that Non english speaking Poles get the same treatment when calling UK companies,

The police here are awesome! I've been stopped for speeding and once for not having my headlights on and as soon as they realise that i'm english they go away, I think that people from ethnic minorities seem to be obsessed with people looking at them because of the colour of their skin when really no one here cares, I have a lot of friends here from kenya, somalia and the US and they have never had any problems, If people look it probably down to the fact poland isn't used to having immigrants like the UK so people will look as its something different and nothing malicious.

The country is run like a business, If there are people who can do a job better and cheaper then so be it! Degrees in the UK are pretty much worthless nowadays as they are very easy and a degree from a uk university only really proves that you have spent 3 years drunk and are 15k in debt. British people can always seek work overseas too, Its not just a one way thing!

Thats the problem, We all were learners once and we paid our hard earned cash in order to learn to drive. Take some ******* lessons like everyone else and don't just think you can buy a driving licence. If you do decide to drive on a fraudulently obtained driving licence I just hope you all crash and burn and don't injure anyone else in the process.

To be honest I would get pretty depressed working on a strawberry picking farm! It all seems a bit suspect to me 3 people killing themselves in such a short space of time. Was talking only the other week to a guy from Wrolclaw who collects bodies for a living from the UK and brings them to Poland to be buried, He explained that suicides are quite common which is a shame. They could always get home so I can't see that as an excuse, You can get a Ryanair flight for next to nothing, Must be someone trying to keep the there...
