What is your choice for frying,cooking and baking?

Here in America. We no longer see LARD in the stores anymore
Everything is shortening,oils or butter.
Growing up my Mom used northing but Lard to fry with. Lard used to fry chrusciki, pounczki. is the best. In America's south thats all that they use to fry chicken, and make pie crust,and biscuits.

SO why dont people use lard anymore?

is that smalec? i dare to say it is still quite popular in Poland. mm sandwiches with lard and skwareczki :)~~

lard = shortening

it's used a lot man but it is very unhealthy.. clogs your veins and such.

Olive oil is the way forward lard is disgusting.

Look in a Meijer store around the meat department. They still have lard in two different size containers. Still as good as ever.

They still sell Lard...I too being from the south saw them use lard to make crust for pies to frying chicken...but I must admit...I don't see alot of fried Polish foods.
