18-20 minutes sounds like a major advance in technology! My machine is only 2 years old and takes 1hr 45 for a normal 40 degree wash! I've never thought that this was a problem though! :)

I have a large group of Polish friends and among the males I would say that their reactions are fairly mixed when it comes to sex. One of them acts like a big stud when we're out but when it comes down to it, he's not into one night stands etc. In fact, he went in a mood with me one time when I suggested he'd slept with a girl he'd met the night before. This is completely something that is happening to me right now. For weeks I realised a close Polish male friend of mine was getting a little more 'friendly' always hugging me and poking me in the side, touching my leg, making a beeline for me when he saw me etc. I didn't think anything of it though, just thought it was nice to have a hug etc. Then a close friend of his told me that basically, he adores me and I thought back over the previous weeks and realised I should have noticed this. I thought about it after a night out where he admitted his feelings in a round about way and two days later I told him I felt the same way - only to be told his ex girl had been in touch and she wanted to get back with him. I told him I felt stupid for admitting my feelings but he said not to feel like that because he didn't want to get back with his girlfriend...but he did want to talk to her when he was in Poland. So he's due back from Poland soon and hopefully I will find out what is happening. (Which will probably be that he is back with her!!!).

Liiii, I understand what you mean about knowing nothing about your guy. This guy I am on about doesn't give information away freely, to find out anything you have to ask him directly and it feels like pulling teeth - but I find this with different guys from different cultures - and, if I am honest, I am the same way, I don't give much away.

I actually think you might have to blunt with him, tell him how you feel to get some kind of reaction, if his reaction is negative then at least you will know and can move on. If it's positive then you will be feeling great and glad you were blunt. Life is too short to deny yourself a chance at happiness! :-)

Why the suspicion?

As it is, she is half Polish and half Australian. Edinburgh will be the first city she visits on her arrival in the UK. She will visit Poland later in the year but up until then she is very keen on sampling much traditional Polish food and hospitality.

Indeed, she will be sampling the food of other cultures and has found a Kurdish restaurant in Edinburgh called Laraz - I will likely be joining her in Edinburgh and she wishes me to go to this restaurant so if anyone has heard of it - opinions?

You must have been on some wage if it covers the employment of two Polish people (even on minimum wage!).

I think its fantastic that many shops are stocking Polish food. I have to say, its absolute rubbish that the choice is limited now in shops. Think about the food you actually eat Pete, I'd be willing to bet that over 50% is not of English origin anyway. Do you eat Chinese, Indian or Mexican? Do you eat Pizza? Well, that's of Italian origin just like pasta etc. Kebabs are not English. Use your Internet connection for a better purpose and find out what you're talking about!

And, I am not normally this mean, but if you are really without money and facing eviction then you could probably save £30 a month by cancelling your Broadband connection!

from my experience in my workplace Poles are not taking jobs from other people but are, in fact filling vacancies that local people (who are apparently crying out for a job) are not interested in (for example - kitchen and domestic duties). As these are the lowest paid jobs in my workplace I would not be surprised if some of them felt they had to take on another job to earn enough money to live. I get a good wage and even I am considering taking on a bar job to suppliment what I already earn.


I agree with that to a certain degree. However, from what I understand from some Polish friends, they spend their days off better - like visiting places etc. Whereas I might be quite inclined to go shopping or cut the grass!

I'm 28 now! But I just think that if I do the marriage thing in next five years and a kid follows then I'm ok. At the moment I just think of marriage as stifling! Don't know why as such!
