History / 1940 massacre of Poles remains potent issue [35]

Words will never bring back the dead, though. Justice may be served but the memories will remain.

I'd recommend the relevant course of action but too little, too late. This should have been dealt with long ago. Those responsible are dead.

Look at the ME issue. All talk and so many have died. Is this acceptable?

Language / Dobrze vs Dobry [15]

Jestem na £itwie, I am in Lithuania or jestem na £otwie, I am in Latvia. Jestem na Węgrzech, I am in Hungary, is an interesting one.

Dobra, back to the thread.

Language / Dobrze vs Dobry [15]

Jestem z depends on the gender. Jestem z Brucem, I'm with Bruce. Jestem z Jolą, I'm with Jola.

Dobrze is an adverb which serves as an adjective.

Dobra, jesteś dobrze poinformowany ;) Dobrze also means well and Poles confuse good with well.

That's a good general way to view it, Cardno.

Life / On Street Parking Fees Baffle Me [11]

Let the City Guard explain the logic when they slap on the fines. Nauczyciel is an interesting poster, I like what he has to say.

Food / Does Polish pierogi also have its story of origin? [43]

I remember eating that Chinese food in a city called Izumo. The Japanese have gyouza which, I think, is of Chinese origin. Very similar to Polish pierogi.

Xiao long bao had a name in Japanese, I can't remember what. I think we say Dim Sum from the Oriental name.

The host was Chinese and I requested that she prepare them the Chinese way. Trust me, the Japanese alter the taste quite a lot. They find Chinese cooking too oily so change the texture.

As for Polish pierogi, it's hard to pinpoint dates. Pierogi are largely Slavic and most Slavs have something like pierogi. You probably like pierogi z mięsem, Chrissy.

History / World War II - a tragic story for Poland and the World [489]

Harry, what was your take on Long Kesh? This is a matter of principle. The British government supported internment, detention without trial, invariably rubber stamping the fate of former IRA members who had long since renounced their ties with that organisation.

Find the author Bowyer Bell, he wrote a lot on it. This was my dissertation, Harry, I'd like to raise some of the issue of internment with you. Please cite your sources as I did in a large way.

So, what camps did Poland run?

Is there no end to this? It needs to be merged with the countless other threads on this topic. Don't worry, Wajda got the message out.

Genvieve, history has repeated itself under dire circumstances. Do you really think the international community had an interest in stopping genocide in the Balkans, both on Muslims and on Slavs? I do but they didn't. They were woefully negligent. Rwanda? A super chance to lower the African population. The disappearance and deaths of Iraqis is tantamount to genocide.

So, sorry, actions speak louder than words. Time to stop barking and start biting.

I teach someone with the surname of Madej. Obviously, I cannot give his first name over an open forum but PM me and I'll tell you about them.

Life / What should be done to make life in Poland better and more enjoyable? [94]

One of the main ones is to draw people out of themselves and tap into that humour more, it's definitely there.

Calmer driving would also be welcome.

Oh, more international products. I went to the deli on the rynek tonight. High prices but at least I have the option of top quality goods once in a while. 30PLN for a normal jar of Sharwoods is a bit steep though (8 pounds in REAL terms).

Travel / Glasgow to Katowice - Wizzair OK? [21]

The cancellation of this route was ridiculous. Aberdeen Airport is retarded. When is there gonna be a flight to Krakow from there?

Life / POLISH INSECTS CAN RUIN YOUR LIFE.... [27]

I remember my dad trying to retrieve a ball that had gone into the bushes where the wasp bike was. He used a wooden stretcher pole to edge it back. He was a little over eager at one point and tipped the bike over. I've never seen him run so fast. The little blighters were in hot pursuit. He escaped unstung.

Life / POLISH INSECTS CAN RUIN YOUR LIFE.... [27]

Exactly, my fiancee is allergic to them. A sting or two can be fatal. Also, it's better not to stand on them as you will have a trail of them chasing you.
