Life / Polish Driving Licence. [314]

you would properly have to pass a driving test to obtain one.

unless the rules have changed recently, you will need to have your American licence translated into Polish, then fill out some paperwork and hand in a couple of photos of yourself, and yuu will get your Polish licence. That's how I did it, however I heard that now you have to take a written test (NOT driving test) in addition. good luck, either way it will be frustrating I am sure..

Travel / Best place to rest in Poland [12]

bieszczady or mazury...most of the beaches on the coast are too crowded unless you find a stretch on the Hel peninsula

News / Why so many bad candidates for Poland Prime Minister? [261]

you could say something bad about each party and what they stand for if you really wanted to:
PiS - cranky old geezers who refuse to notice that the world around them is changing fast..
PO - pro-business nerds who have a strange free-market agenda which reeks of neofascism..
LPR - the foaming at the mouth religious right, a party full of xenophobic people who are afraid to go overseas on holiday unless its on a pilgrimage to the Vatican..

SO - beet-faced drunken rednecks who sexually harass any woman within reach..
LID - Former Commies who convienently switch their colors whenever it suits them, aka the mafia in nice suits, slimy opportunists, etc..
Womens' Party - relatively unknown, hopeless cause but good campaign posters (naked women)

Language / Polish Language Pronunciation - Example Words and Phrases [220]

we can try but that's all we can do, because that sound doesn't exist in English...first you have to roll that "r" and then right after that comes that funky z that sounds something like the g in the french name Serge-so it would like zeh-r(rolled)(french g)-knee mnieh...that's the closest youll get-sorry!

besides, a nice girl like you shouldn't be talking like that....

Study / Studying in Poland at the Uni of Warsaw for 1 semester. [8]

what are the food and people/students like?

the food is meat and potatoes and the students are nice, probably similiar to what you are used to. Poles seem glum and depressed (especially since winter is approaching) but give them some alcohol on a friday night and you will see a magical transformation of character...

aboutthat meat and potato thing...warsaw is full of fast food resteraunts and other eateries, what kind of food do you like?

How can one of the leaders of a political party justify joining a global consultancy company!

its not that unusual, lots of leaders do it once they leave office or even while they are still active in politics. just look at the list of people who belong to CFR (Council on Foreign Relations)

Are there any parties calling for a withdrawal of Polish troops from Iraq?

Unfortunately only the real yo-yos, like LPR

News / Is the E.U. good for Poland?? [180]

I'm sure you have a view

indeedy. Poland being ruled by stronger or richer or occasionally bullying neighbors is nothing new, so having EUrocrats poking their noses in everyones business is not exactly a revolutionary experience for Poles. Better than having Russian or Germans alone telling us what to do. For better or for worse the world around us is consolidating and small nations on their own have less and less of a chance against larger powers like the USA, China, etc. So the trend seems to be join up or get swallowed up on worse terms. For Poland like for many nations its probably a mixed bag. Sure you lose some of that precious sovereignty, but what is that sovereignty worth when your roads are full of potholes, no highways, and the shcools and hospitals are falling apart? Besides there are many other benefits: freedom to travel and to work abroad (convenient pressure relief valve), shorter lines at the airport (not like Americans and Canadians are usually hassled by EU immigration anyway, though), and what else?.....

News / Are there any other countries that Polish immigrants are going to? [70]

isn't alcohol ridiculously expensive there

everything is, including Prince Polo bars which have started popping up in shops here and there because of the increasing Polish presence (and Icelanders supposedly like them a lot too, at least that's what the article mentioned).

News / Poland threatens to reject EU treaty [72]

in close future there will be more and more politicans who will share my opinion about our future

that sounds nice, but don't forget that Poland is famous for precisely that: politicians who specialize in doing exactly the opposit of what you want/need

Sarkozy wants to use France atomic wepons as EU wepons not only France.

why is that a good thing? they should get rid of the damn things if anything

News / Poland threatens to reject EU treaty [72]

Nobody will help us, It is our history, so I dont see the reason to help for USA, what are we doing in Iraq, we had good contacts with whole Arab world, and now we take part in war for Oil for USA.

heare heare. Poland's image is slowly being tarnished by the unconditional love affair with Uncle Scam. And maybe the US is using Poland as its Trojan Horse within the EU, to keep the EU weak and fractured when need be?...

What about your Tusk, who 2 years ago said that If PiS would win USD would cost 6PLN

this article you provided says gasoline will cost 6 PLN, not the dollar. But gasoline will probably eventually cost 6PLN anyway, whether Tusk does anything about it or not...

He seems to be inteligent and honest... But from my point of view, he's to weak to be a strong politian... :)

What's worse? Intelligent and honest but weak, or strong but dumb and dishonest? I would prefer the former, if he could put together an effective government....

History / Katyn - the Polish movie [29]

I dont understand why russians are trying to false history again.

because the guy that runs the country is an ex-spy, and that's what spies do - they lie, cheat, eavesdrop, and steal.

Wonder what the market rate is these days for kidneys and eyes lol

don't know about the eyes but in Eastern Europe healthy kidneys fetch a couple of thousand bucks, apperently.

Thank god this fool is in a minority in the UK and not a true representation of English people

what makes you think he is British? His English isn't perfect (unless he's faking the poor grammar and inconsistent spelling), one would think that he's Polish, just trying to stir things up a bit in order to find boredom.

News / Poland biggest problem [125]

Same idiots get ellected every time, but it is they that the people blame for all their woes!! A very mixed up situation.

The last Tusk v. Kaczynski election was very close. It is commonly believed that the church hinted to the public who they should vote for. Also, Randompal knows a credible source who reported personally seeing election fraud taking place...
