Life / Irish and British people moving into my neighborhood in Poland. [63]

Michal,

Check the British news. You will find that farmers in the UK have problems because they can't find Polish workers to pick the fruit crops. Students can make more money in Poland. Things are not as bad here as you might think.

It is offensive to some.

Life / Are there any scots in the scottish pubs in wroclaw? [9]

ktwc,

Organize a drinking thread with times and dates and watch the Wroclaw folk appear.

If you check the threads you will see that we have had our little get togethers in the past. Casual affairs with light conversation........sipping piwo to the early hours.

Love / Seeking advice - I get a feeling she is seeing other guys [25]

I think this one is easy. She had a life before she met you and she would like to continue it. Men shouldn't expect women to drop everything to be with them 24/7. When she feels that the relationship is serious enough for her she should open up a bit.

At the moment you probably have a different view on where this relationship is going. Don't rush it, and show a little more trust. However, if I'm wrong always remember. Shitt happens.

Work / Some details about Teaching in Poland [51]

Anyway, who would work for a hundred pounds a month!

If you live the Polish lifestyle it includes the Polish rates of pay.

I was in Russia as a student twenty three years ago the Polish had no time for the English anyway.

We live in different times.

McDonalds and Pizza Hut.

They are here because we wanted them.

As a teacher of English all you are doing is spreading American global aims by the back door.

I don't see the logic here.

All Poles want four- by-fours

Some do.

Sony television sets

Sony TV's are made by LG Electronics in Poland. So they are buying a Polish made product.

to watch Sky sports.

Sky Sports is not available here to ordinary subscribers.

Poles learn English to go to Australia and the USA to work-it has nothing to do with being in Europe.

The figures quoted by posters on this site show something different.

Michal, do you have anything good to say about Poland?

UK, Ireland / English people attitude towards Poles? [761]

My experience is that they are doing what the Irish did 30 years ago. They come here to work and fill gaps in the work place that we British generally don't want to do.

This is not true. Thirty years ago there was a boom in building. The Irish didn't fill gaps that the british didn't want to do. They exploited the fact that there was so much work.

A large number of them moved into carpentry or bricklaying while the rest worked as labourers, paviours or in excavation. It is a fact that many of them were unskilled, but because they had organized themselves into teams they were able to help each other out. This last point shows the similarity with the Polish.

Please don't forget that the Irish already had a foothold going back to the days of the navvies. Also, I doubt that the Irish builders were university educated whereas many of the Polish are. On the surface circumstances may look similar, but I would argue that they are very different.

Language / What is the most annoying thing about non-native Polish speakers? [90]

Yes, but that is not the full story because in English newspaper headlines we write for instance, 'serious traincrash'

This type of language is taught in Polish schools. Ex: The way Present Simple and Present Continuous are used in Newspapers. Also, the reason for short words like axe and cut.

Work / Some details about Teaching in Poland [51]

English Language teaching is an unskilled job,

For many.

There are some who are qualified to degree standard. This must be worth something.

Teaching to proficiency level takes skill and good knowledge. Helping someone pass the Matura requires less skill.

Love / My Polish boyfriend never says 'l love you' to me, what should i do? [93]

LOL have you brought in any lately?

I stole the baby's, yesterday.

Only joking. I haven't had one for ages. The shock would be too great, if I found someone had got to it before me.

If you have your own banking before you meet your partner. Why change it. If you are practical at the begining you shouldn't need a pre-nup.

Then there is my wife's method: What's yours is mine and mines my own.

Love / Someone please explain this to me [14]

Without a doubt.

You are being used because it's you that needs her and she knows it. If you had wanted to make a clean break you would have done it. Get on with your life.
