Life / Local contact to set up Sky TV in Wroclaw [7]

Get an HDTV nbox with a bigger dish. But you won't get all the Sky channels. Only Sky News. Another problem is that you'll need a dish with two heads, because to make the most of the system, you'll have to pick up signals from two different satellites.

Cannal+ is in English. There is a language button on the remote. But there is a difference between satellite and cable, so check first. I'm watching BBC Prime on the canal+ system at this very moment. In English.

Life / The Narrator voice on Television & Films in Poland [29]

Go on! What have you narrated?

Polish 'shorts' going to an English speaking audience. I'm also the voice on two tourist DVDs. Most of the stuff is for promotional purposes. I don't do it these days.

Law / Opening a language school in Poland. Is it too late? [13]

the idea of opening a language school in Poland, probably wroclaw.

ukpolska has said it all. You will find it very difficult. Schools are now starting to use modern technology in the classroom, which of course adds to costs. Location is important too, as is size and predicted number of pupils/students. To make it work you will have to think very carefully about your target clients.

Life / what is the most common and the most beautiful name in Poland? [58]

I'm actually pleased my kids don't feature on the lists.

Nothing worse in Poland than when someone leaves me a phone message and only a first name. I can meet half a dozen people with the same name in one afternoon.

Life / Where are all the Polish children? [3]

Most families consist of two children or less.
Some would be at summer camp.
Kids come later in life these days.

News / Polish Elections - your opinions [27]

As I have said on another thread. There are more older voters than younger ones. The thing is that all the younger people have to vote to make a difference. If they were here, under the present circumstances, I'm sure they would vote. Another problem with voting is that results can be predicted by region. Some people are so set in their ways and refuse to change. And the church does make a difference, whatever anyone says to the contrary.

update.

SLD were forced to push for an early election after all the shenanigans surrounding today's arrests.

The arrests concern members of parliament who were due to attend an inquiry tomorrow.

Love / A Polish Girl Without Heart!! [54]

The hurtful thing is she walked away without a care in the world and left me as if i never exsisted

This shows something about how she saw the relationship. It seems that you were handy to have around in a time of need.
But as usual, we only have one side of the story.

News / Polish Elections - your opinions [27]

I would like to know and have opinion of people who live in Poland concerning the election that will be held soon??? not just opinion anything you wanna share ....

I seem to spend more time in the school next door voting than my daughter does learning.
What bothers me is the number of absentee voters. Those young folk working abroad who could make a difference.

I can't do it. My Polish language isn't good enough. But there are people here who can be trusted, I think.

Feedback / Suggestion about "Phrase of the Day" [7]

Admin,

Can we have some sort of Phrase of the Day thread.

A phrase in English and a phrase in Polish.

It might help those trying to learn the language. It would have to be some sort of locked topic, so no one can spoil it. Maybe a moderator or trusted member could run it. If it is run properly we would end up with a dictionary of phrases.

What do other PF members think?

Language / difficult English words for Polish speakers? [119]

btw is there any diference in pronunciation 'live in' and 'living' and between 'coming' and 'come in' etc...?

A lot of problems are related to region. Basically each county in the Uk pronounces words in a slightly different way.

live in vs living. In lazy English some people will drop the 'g'. So, both will sound similar.

The two 'th' sounds are easy, but you need to watch the speakers mouth and understand that the sounds are connected to the way you breath or the way you blow the air out as you speak.

Practice this: thirty three thousand three hundred and thirty three.

Language / What problems do Polish speakers of English have with intonation? [5]

I don't see the problem here. It's just a matter of listen and repeat [many times].

The biggest problems are the age of the student and who taught them previously.

The student has to watch the teacher speak as well as listen.
