UK, Ireland / My fellow brits here - are "traitors" by not dating English girls? [103]

If the English girls treat you like that, then why would you want to be around them?
It's your life, you want to be around people who don't treat you like that, who make you happy. Blow them off. Let them say what they want, don't give in.

You're not a traiter, that is a very immature and narrow-minded gesture. Be above them all and ignore them. Who wants to be around people that put you down all the time?

Love / What kind of person did your parents or guardians tell you to find? [38]

She's very pretty. I think she would prefer an American or something else, because she has this image of Polish guys wanting a woman to do the cooking and cleaning.

She has a Polish friend who says he's looking for a wife to cook because he's sick and tired from living on cans.

Love / Illegal Polish girl wants me to marry her for citizenship [124]

They tell you to wait three months for a decission, and if you passed the test, you will get the green card in about a year or two.

The deportation doesn't happen right away. They give you a chance to prove to the USCIS that it would be inconvenient for the spouse to leave, so it doesn't always happen.

Food / Polish Restaurant Prices [20]

And it depends on the restaurant too. Some have more class than others so the prices are higher.

Holy Owczarek Podhalański!!! 40 zł. for a plate of pierogi? That's more than 12 bucks! You can get a nice steak for that price! Unless like Grzegorz says, they're big and you get a lot.

Love / I had a Polish female friend. Horror in my mind... [79]

The girl will sooner or later get a disease for sleeping around. I wouldn't waste my time on a person who does that because maybe in the future you guys would get married. She has been sleeping around with others before marriage and she will do it after she's married.

People don't change. My "X" slept around before marriage. I never did and stupid, naive me - trusted him.
He was back to sleeping around after a few years.

UK, Ireland / Second wave of Polish Immigration to the UK [8]

I know some people in the US who stay and some who return back to Poland. Some stay because they have good jobs, became citizens one way or another and an established life.

Others return because they were here illegally and are disapointed that they couldn't make enough money. Life in the US is expensive and people have this vision that money grows on trees and that is the main reason they come to the US. And if They're here illegally, don't speak the language, can't find that job, they return back to Poland.

And those that overstayed their visas, will not be able to come back to the US for 10 years.

People from all over the world go skiing to Zakopane. They have t-bars and chair-lifts. Many areas to ski. But Aspen and Vail have a higher altitude and you get more tired easier.

UK, Ireland / Will the Poles be out on St. Patricks day [66]

Biiig celebration. In schools you have to wear something green, parades everywhere, st. Patrick's specials in store, movies on TV revolving around the Irish, restaurants serving special sauerkraut on rye and other Irish foods, so it is a very big deal in the US.

Theres a lot of Irish and Polish in Chicago everybody gets along

The Americans don't have a problem with Poles coming here....They really like them! Everybody goes to the Polish stores to get a Polish kiełbasa because the ones in regular stores are inedible! But makes good dog food!!

Life / Poland: The Things That Make Foreigners Lift a Brow [123]

You think Poland has a drinking problem?

I live in a small university town in the US, and about 99% of the students go out to drink every night. The downtown alone has about 15 bars, there are more bars on the side streets and other areas. They close them at 2:00 AM and you can see all the people walking back to their homes. There is a stiff penalty for drinking and driving, so they have designated drivers if they need to get home.

But they drink a lot in the US too, and many people drink at home.
Like my "X" who had a keg of beer in basement and had friends over to drink.
I don't touch that stuff!!
