Life / Day-to-day Polish Customs [20]

Soo to sum up the replies so far.....vodka, flowers, and vodka? Haha

No.......... Good manners. Polish people have a particular way of making you welcome and looking after you. This is one of the things visitors to Poland remember.

dont shake hands across a doorway

or kiss hello/goodbye. across a doorway that is.

Real Estate / "Look after the zloty"...Sunday Times article, property prices in Poland [6]

Frank,

As soon as the time is right... buy a house + land.

Unless you can find another, better priced city, to invest in.

Some say prices went up here because we are close to the border.

When they drop border control in December/January it might be worth having property this side of the German border.

Look into it.

some of each of their day-to-day customs that are unique to their home country

Good manners and etiquette.

You open the door and you are the last one through it.

What would be a native Polish drinker have for a drink of choice, then?

Go to the vodka thread for ideas. Yes, I am serious.

I'd sure think that my ethnic background contains more than just alcohol

Don't go kissing men. unless you're particularly close friends of course.

Law / "Difficult Customer" business in Poland [18]

bubbaWoo,

As I said. I don't disagree.

I have noticed over recent years that shop staff have become more polite. So there must be some sort of program in place to teach them. I don't know if it would be cost effective for some stores with a high turnover of floor staff to teach more about interpersonal skills.

I'm not sure if customers are really sure of their rights either.

Law / "Difficult Customer" business in Poland [18]

I don't disagree with anyone here. I just reported what happened.

I did say in my first post that ''Difficult Customer" business is needed.

Please, let's not drag this out in fin T's thread.

Law / "Difficult Customer" business in Poland [18]

The obligatory crowd of onlookers gathered and I felt utterly humiliated!

I've been through this. It would be nice if security could say in a loud voice... we apologize.

how can you condone physical assault on a customer

Normally I wouldn't, but in this case, from the reaction of others, it seemed correct.

seriously wroclaw hun she did that

The guy said something, she stood up and slapped him. Security were standing close by and nothing more happened. The young woman is still working in the shop.

It seemed to be one of those things that just happen. Just an exchange of innapropriate language maybe. It was over in seconds and the other customers seemed to think she was in the right.

To be honest I think it was the right outcome. No need for someone to lose a job because of some a$$hole's comment.

Also any thoughts on this as an idea would be appreciated.

There is certainly a need for it. Especially after watching a check-out girl slap a male customer the other day.

UK, Ireland / What will the Polish give the UK? [58]

What will the Polish give the UK?

new words... new food... new driving techniques... style/fashion.

Feedback / sounds (mp3, wav, ogg) [8]

I disagree. Some people find it easier to base sounds and pronunciation on written examples. And besides we already have an audio/video thread for the Polish alphabet.

Love / What to do, should I forget her? [14]

JWB,

This sounds like a mid-life crisis sort of post. If you are bored in your present relationship, do something to cheer it up. Don't waste your time on something that will never be.

The e-mail, flowers and phone call are a form of cheating on your present partner.

UK, Ireland / Britain - Land of Milk and honey.. or basis for Lord of the Flies? [17]

I sometimes wonder if things in a number of "primitve" parts of the UK are regressing rather than progressing!...:(

It does seem, from news reports, that things are going backwards in some areas of the UK.
However, when I was in the north east recently, it seemed that social conditions had improved and the mentality of the youth hadn't.

hope all are well in Wroclaw!!?

All doing fine.

I trust all is good where you are.

Not all of this country is as unpleasant as these terrible cases might suggest.
It does highlight some of the problems we face.

I understand. Problem is... the guy who mistreated the woman comes from my part of the world. And it was sickening to read.
