Life / New Balace shoes prices in Poland [18]

I can only think that it is because over in London there are plenty of upmarket competitors with a better image so that they can't command the same premium. Maybe in Warsaw there is not the same level of competition from other brands?

Love / Polish ladies seem to be in high demand at the moment. [105]

I think in Poland 4-8 years difference is not considered abnormal.

Hey Southern. Have you actually been to Poland or are you trying to glean as much information as possible. It would help me to understand where you are coming from.

Love / Polish ladies seem to be in high demand at the moment. [105]

Reading through this thread again (it's been a slow news day today) reminded me of a great unanswered question that has bugged me for years. It was triggered by the discussion on Polish girls going out with men older than themselves, often by a considerable margin. The question is more of a generic one concerning older men/young girls but I did witness the behaviour in question many times when in Poland.

My question is (and be warned I have the PhD option set aside already):

"Why do older men have to dance like complete and utter prats with wild uncoordinated movements whilst trying to impress their young partners when it is patently obvious that the last time they were on the dance floor Bill Haly and the Comets were still playing?"

Did someone say romanian ghetto? mmmmmmm....

I thought they said chocolate ghetto.... more cream anybody .yummmm

Mind you this thread, despite its meanderings, does seem to be confirming that Polish women are indeed much in demand throughout the known world.

Life / How to convince somebody to stay in Poland?? [20]

Hi Peter. Not an easy assignment for you.

My advice would be to divide up the reasons for her staying under a number of sub headings:

1) Personal, loss of family contact and friends. How would her family react to losing their daughter/sister for an extended period. How would she feel being away from them. Invent some younger brothers and sisters - always a good tear jerker. Boyfriends etc.

2) Obligations to her country - she has received her education (paid for mainly by the state?) and she should pay something back by working in her own country first. Perhaps teaching others, perhaps by using her studies in a job in Poland. Maybe starting a business that could employ others. Should she join the exodus which has now reached the point where there are real skill shortages in her own country for just her own financial gain?

3) Th eopportunity to work abroad is always with her in the EU era. The type of jobs she could get in another eu COUNTRY WITHOUT REAL AND VALID WORK EXPERIENCE WOULD LARGLEY BE MENIAL AND NOT USE HER EDUCATION OR TALENT.

Ignore capitals - no emphasis implied.

If it's a real life situation then telling her rather than writing a paper is going to be better. Writing does not convey all of your emotions.

Life / Bad opinion about Polish people - rumour or the truth? [90]

No that was his hub caps. They met in Egypt, carried on at uni in Liverpool and have now moved to Vancouver where she is doing her masters and he is wasting his education writing love poems in very bad Polish and working in various temp jobs.

Is it so difficult to understand?

With the level of coherency in your argument, quite frankly the answer is yes. It's very difficult to understand. My point is why do you try to differentiate between women of any race in their possible attraction to rich. older men. I find the whole crux of your debate to be demeaning to women full stop. That of course is my opinion which is no more valid than yours.

Anyway here people are stubborn, you intervene in every case.

It's a Forum mate, not a private message board for you. Post and expect responses. Is THAT too difficult to understand?

Who is more attractive in their eyes?

Presumably those that are rich and handsome have the edge..

Are there beautiful polish girls with ugly foreign boyfriends?

Yes, just as there are English girls with ugly foreign boyfriends, and American ones, and French ones...... get the picture?

Travel / Stories about your travels [12]

Hmm… travel experiences. There have been so many it’s hard to pick a few out.. A selection follows:

Nigeria.

I was working on a job for an oil company upcountry. We stayed in a secure compound. The vegetation had been cleared for 400 metres around the accommodation blocks. At night some of the locals thought it fun to let off their AK47s against the steel shutters of the block. Nice to be woken up that way.

Medellin, Colombia.

I was getting a little bored with the hotel food so decided to visit the restaurant 100 metres down the road. Walking out of the lobby I was stopped by hotel security to find out where I was going. When I explained the guy kindly called me a taxi! Scary place in those days.

Barcelona

Starting a riot at a Barcleona Valencia match by introducing the local supporters to the ‘who ate all the pies, you fat B******d’ song for Hristo Stoichkov. At the time he was a little, shall we say, portly but was a bit of a legend at the Nou Camp.

Siberia

As the Aeroflot flight from Moscow was taxiing down the runway I was a little bemused as to why three large maintenance men were still stood up in the aisle. Turns out they were standing room only passengers! Oh and the seatbelt was broken and at least two passengers had live chickens in boxes. Not long after that our insurance stopped us flying Areoflot. Once there I was introduced to a guy in the bar by a colleague who had something ‘interesting’ to sell. Stepped outside to see a large and very angry bear. I declined his kind offer,

Warsaw

As members of the team left the project it became a tradition for the leaving presents to be rather risque. In the heightened security post 9/11 one unfortunate had his luggage searched on entry to the airport before we had even reached check in. A rather nice young lady did the search. She took great delight in showing the ‘marital aids’ within my colleague’s luggage to the whole queue. Don’t know who was the more embarrassed!.

UK, Ireland / English people attitude towards Poles? [761]

The Poles have no choice. Do you get this, pal? I wish it happened to you. Besides, the door to better career jobs is often closed to the Poles, even though it is open e.g. to folks from the Third World. That's the 'human rights' laws you've got.

Polish workers have come in on the bottom rung of the career ladder. They will not remain there if they have the talent to go with the determination and strong work ethic that they TYPICALLY exhibit. There is strong evidence that the progression is already happening. In my line of work I have seen this already. Let us not forget that it is only three years or so since Poland's EU admission. The vast majority of posts in this Forum that relate to Poland and the UK, be they about relationships with Poles, discrimination, anatgonsim from the UK residents should be read with this in mind. We have seen the best part of 800,000 new residents in the UK who are different in many ways. The sheer speed of this build up is almost unprecedented. Yes we have large numbers of immigrants from around the world, many of whom are far less willing to integrate than the Poles but these numbers have built up more slowly so the perceived impact by the indigenious population has been less dramatic. Give it time people and everything will changes from the work carried out by the Poles to the attitude to them from those of us who have not had the opportunity to understand them before. It takes time for God's sake.

Look also at the numbers of small businesses that the Poles have already started. Their ability to mobilise and commit to small enterprises is impressive. Who cares if it is a car wash or an IT company. They have got off their backsides and taken a few risks to make a go of it and good luck to them. Most Polish people are paying their way in taxes and as other have noted they are helping the UK economy greatly. Poles are welcome here and they will integrate and prosper better than most is my view.

There is also alot of criminality that goes on amongst the East European community!.

Mainly from Albanian and Russian criminal gangs.... I have not heard of any large scale criminal activity from Poles in the UK.

And finally I agree with previous posts about the misleading and inflammatory rants of section sof the British media. Slow news day?.... let's bash Johnny Foreigner.... Care to name me a country where the media don't resort to this?

Real Estate / House near golf course in Warsaw (does it exist?) [8]

all south facing windows quadruple glazed.

Insufficient protection from some of the golfers that play there. Once had a narrow escape from a ball that was TWO fairways away from where it should have been!

Love / A Story of mine [47]

heres a pic of me

Thanks for the picture. I was getting increasingly worried that it was my 19 year old son who has just been through an uncannily similar experience with a Polish girl that I was talking to !!

His story started off differently though.
