News / The past and future of Poland. Poland is lost. [113]

Poland

funny that this picture comes from The Bounce Magazine and refers to comments based on the character of Oliver Twist. Wasn't he an English character described by an English author and concerning the English poor?

Life / I AM BLACK. SHOULD I MOVE TO POLAND? [107]

I look at our history, 2 world wars, colonization of many many countries and in some of those countries near genocide, we dropped two nuclear bombs on people, most serial killers are between the ages of 18-35 white males, the list goes on and on and on.

yes, but we listened to Beethoven and read Shakespeare's love sonnets while doing that ;)

Language / Cases, Genders, Nominative, Instrumental...WHY? [40]

I just wanted to make it clear that it's not the only language with cases and genders.

I don't think anybody ever suggested that.
In addition, Polish noun inflection system is perhaps not even the most complicated one, when you consider Finnish for instance.

Complexity of a language does not depend on one or two aspects of its grammar. In case of Polish it's just overloaded with irregularities, or regularities that are so complex that they escape often less complicated foreign semantic and grammatical sensitivity.

Love / Polish men and Filipino women [73]

Is it true they are reported to have to largest penis,s in all of Europe...or is that just a myth....

I haven't had ... ahem... pleasure to check personally, but I guess there is a grain of truth in every myth.

Life / Antisemitism in Poland; is it safe for a Jew to live in Poland? [193]

It was polish BEFORE it became Bohemian and Austrian and in the end German.

actually, it was first bohemian, and in the end it is Polish yet again.

Berlin is next :)

OK... but the topic is about antisemitism in Poland...

seems like that topic does not offer a whole lot of material for discussion after all ;)

No you haven't or you would have known that:

I wrote it was Polish before it was German. Your post doesn't prove otherwise.

How generous of you!

Oh, don't mention it.

What do you want to do? Expelling all those millions non-Poles like you did in Breslau?

What are you smoking?
I didn't expel anybody from anywhere, except for my cat from my bed.

o it wasn't. Check your history books.

I have. Have you?

Whatever land the Arabs lost was the result of a war that they started. S

It's all a question of how far back in time we go.

Jews were out of the area as a Jewish state for almost 2000 years. And even when they came to what is now Israel, it wasn't exactly an empty space a few thousand years ago. Israelis did quite a bit of ethnic cleansing of their own before they were able to settle there. I guess in today's terms it is sometimes referred to as crimes against humanity.

Indeed it is interesting that you chose Wroclaw as an example.

yehudi simply chose to ignore the fact that Wroclaw was Polish before Germans got hold of it. So in fact his statement bears little weight, as Germans didn't lose anything. They just failed to hold on to what wasn't theirs in the first place. Lucky bastards got to keep Berlin though.

History / Jews-Officers in the Polish Armed Forces 1939-1945 [52]

After reading some comments in here, I am ashamed to identify myself as being polish. NO different than being a white supremist.

shame on the poles that still feel jews are subhuman.

I think your shame is misplaced, or at least unbalanced. Haven't you ever heard the term "chosen people". That's what some (not sure how many) Jews consider themselves. So in short, to me Poles, and many other nations, simply reject the alleged superiority of Jews.

Language / Confusion about genitive plural [30]

other than metaphors (such as sciana deszczu and similar) "mur" often suggests a masonry structure.

murować - to lay bricks, to erect a brick wall

If the Arabs can accept that Israel is here to stay and want to create a middle eastern union, I'm all for it. But like you say, we have a long way to go.

I don't think it's gonna happen. For Israel to survive as a Jewish state they have to continue their current policies against Arabs living within Israel's borders. If they stop and opt for democracy instead then Israel will not survive as a Jewish state. So it's either democracy or permament state of war.

IMO, about the only, albeit slim, chance to prolong Israel's Jewishness would be if all Jews from around the world moved to Israel. That won't happen either, and for one simple reason - Israel cannot survive economically and thus militarilly on its own and without foreign... ahem... aid.

It wasn't our idea. It was God's idea to pick us for his own reasons.

Gods do not pick anybody because gods do not exist.

Here's how it works: first people invent a god or gods and than make him/her/them do whatever is suitable to the god's creators. Praise the Lord!

Language / Pronouns, the meaning of "Wy"? [7]

In some dialects, "wy" is still sometimes used in reference to a single person, usually addressing a mature man or woman. This usage is fading away but it can still be heard used by older people.

Language / Using colors to describe an object [14]

You would also have to be careful about the use of colours because ten teliwizor jest czarno-biały may only refer to the box in which the electronic components are physically housed.

First, it's telewizor.

Second, bialo-czarny in reference to TV or TV-set was ALWAYS used to describe the transmission technology, not the color of the box. Except in your home, it turns out.

News / On the verge of new and ideal world [63]

But what is a reason they live in such conditions and poverty? I could name you one. Once in Paris I had seen one scene. The young and cute black boy cleaned the window of our hotel, he cleaned it 5 hours! We were walking, sitting in the caffe, eating but he was still cleaning that f8cking window!

The reasons for poverty may be numerous.
As for the coffee, did you steal it or someone gave you theirs?

Russia

I couldn't find any knights in shining armor riding white horses. Were the horses cooked and eaten, perhaps?

Work / Americans teaching english...your help please! [51]

I am a college grad and paying off my loan ($15). I'm sure that there are people out there in the same situation and I would like to know what they are doing about it.

I think you could pay off $15 in a day. Just get a squeegee and find a good set for traffic light during rush hour.

Btw. what's your major?
Sounds like something awfully unique, for 15 bucks ;-)

Language / How to learn Polish ASAP? (speaking is my priority) [22]

Speak it first. that's how children learn a language

Are you sure?
I would have thought they learn by first listening, and listening and then listening some more, before finally they start uttering the first clumsy words. Depending on gender and other factors, that takes usually between 1 and 2 years.

I'm not sure if it is possible to learn a language, including a foreign one, by first speaking it. How does the learner know what to say?

Language / Polish Translation software [24]

I'm pretty sure that is you spend $100 on whiskey or beer, and drink it all in a day, or two, then you will be as good a translator as any software based translators advertised as good ones. No such thing exists between Polish and English, save for individual words and some trivial clusters of words.
