Life / CAN NON-POLISH UNDERSTAND POLAND? [17]

Heya, had a disagreement with GF about 'NOT knowing what is going on in Poland'

That the news is not enough (even though were talking about political scandals and the fact that poland is not alone in this department!)

I believe it IS possible to know what is going on in a country by reading up on, meeting the people and researching about it (like I have) and by following the news!

Then she said the news i would get would be different!!!!

Life / How much do you HATE POLISH PEOPLE and POLAND [1260]

hehe thats stirring it a bit :) (but it got your attention:P)

I love em to be honest but ive realized that over the past few weeks that it has seen many anti Polish sentiment. Sentiment that is largely based on Racial fear and ignorance.

This can be said of any group of people. For I note that some Poles hate Germans and Russians (no it is not different - people all claim to be JUST in hating another race)

I would be interested to hear your views on Racism in General. BY POLISH and BY OTHER NATIONALITIES (not necessarily against poles)

The Irish would have held this view against the English and vice versa not so long ago BUT that has subsided to a sporting rivallry and we are 'best buddies' now.

Life / Under 18 curfew in Poland [16]

A curfew is not really a solution.

Its education from a very early level.

Its getting involved in the community - get them before they get bored and get into anti social behaviour

Im one to talk - I wouldnt be volunteering to do this - I know its something that requires paid, trained proffesstional people to engage the community with full support (it aint coming) from funders (gov't local business)

It is an investment to be sure - the stats speak for themselves (anti social behavior is on the rise and rise!)

a curfew is not a proactive solution and is not a really good reactive solution.

after suggesting the above proactive - what would i suggest as reactive?

open centres where they can 'hang' out in a safe, monitored envoirment. Show films, tv, computer games. (all under CCTV to ensure safetyy and issue fines and communtity service to YOUNG age offenders! forget prison - thats a cost to community rather than a cost to the offender

the British taxes, the germans, french...but lets be honest hwntw. face the facts.

The BULK of EU funding over the last 30 years HAS been german. you can check that out

AND britain has also benefit from EU funding on major infrastrucural and agricultural areas (the CAP is of HUGE benefit to the UK, Ire, France, etc)

UK, Ireland / Irish Thoughts on Britain and the British and vice versa [53]

The British Government tried giving the country away, but the Loyalists (that is Loyal to the British) wouldn't have it. Crazy and impossible.

exactly. so we have moved on (finally) from this :)

UK, Ireland / Second wave of Polish Immigration to the UK [8]

it will be a case of both situations happening. It think.

There are over 250,000,000 Irish over the centuries all over the world and MOST of them settled into the locality. But back then uprooting was much harder and travell not as accessible.

I believe that the Polish will intergrate on many levels and some will return also. Which is good for Poland.

UK, Ireland / Irish Thoughts on Britain and the British and vice versa [53]

So what do you think about Irish thoughts about independent Ireland or rather not?

We have independance so i will also presume you are talking baout the north.

the north would have had troubles no matter what way it went because the north has a large loyalist and nationalist population. so there would have been trouble in the 70's regardless.

If the north was not under Brittish rule in WW2 - the allies would not have been able to maintain suppies from the west. Churchill is on record as saying, if it was not for the north - the brits would hav had to go back into ireland.

it would have been nice to be aunified island as infrastructrully it would have made things easier to plan also greater tax generation to fund schools, health - BUT there would have been

troubles with terrorism regardless jus the brits starting it instead of the irish.

look at rugby - we have an all Ireland team. GAA (irish native sports) is an all island sport too. The people of the north and south call themselves Irish.

It is a dead issue these days compared to 5 yrs, 30 yrs ago, We are not looking back at the past. we are moving forward and upward.

Independant Scotland within the European Union

TONY BLAIR has made great inroads to 'devolving wales, scotland & N. Ireland' from the old established great britain.

This is advantageous to all areas concerned. as in a growing EU community, this allows big decisions to made in respect to local government levels in the above mentioned.

UK, Ireland / More and more UK nationals have had enough [22]

people come here to unleash their anti polish sentiment from time to time... dig deep and there is normally a personal reason for it... lost job or girlfriend trouble being common causes...

wiem, i was subtly highlighting what you said outright :)
