UK, Ireland / POLES SUPERIOR TO BRITS? [260]

Aren't we all Europeans? People equal to each other? Nobody is superior to anyone.

News / Poles, get ready for mass migration from Russia ! [50]

According to the same study there were less than 1000 of Jews or so (for sure less than Russians). Can you believe that?

Of course there's more of them, especially Jews. But many feel Polish today and that's how they describe themselves during national census. It's their right.

Life / New skyscraper in Warsaw... [58]

The first 5 are already under construction.

Other are negotiating price of the ground or other things.

I didn't post projects that are only projects on paper. Investors of all of the buildings from the list made serious steps to start construction.

There was no planes at that times and amount of people was much smaller than today. Bad example.

News / Why is Tusk still Polish PM? [67]

Fist of all he is not Pole but Kashub.

What's wrong with that?

In the old good times Commonwealth of the Nations (Rzeczpospolita Obojga Narodow) was a country where all nations lived together in peace under one flag, but different nationalities and cultures.

Why people still care about where people come from? So odd.

History / travel to/from Poland in 1950s [2]

It was almost impossible. People would come back to occupied Poland with great news about freedom and democracy that exists somewhere over the rainbow. They would also bring information about real face of communist occupation to the West.

Usually people who held passport were strong communists, communist party members or their families etc.

My family had passports, I had grandpa in the party. Not good news but he was good man anyway.

News / Conroversial Palikot or not [19]

I think his biggest problem is that the form of his public appearances often overshadows their content - as in the incident where he appeared with a rubber penis and a gun in his hands to protest alleged sexual abuse and violence at a police station. Today hardly anyone recalls what the whole thing was about, but everyone recalls seeing Palikot waving a dildo and a gun around.

I think he would make great career if he was born in the Netherlands or any other more liberal country.. ;D

News / Conroversial Palikot or not [19]

I guess I'm one of few who support him. He's saying what most of Poles are thinking.. He don't like the president and PiS party, and he's not afraid to call them idiots. It's because he's rich and not afraid of confrontation.

Personaly he's inteligent guy, well educated, experienced.. It's not a Lepper's level.

But I agree that sometimes he's going too far.....

UK, Ireland / Sad or stupid - a Polish teacher killed whilst urinating on live rail [88]

I think if he knew that the rail was upstream, he wouldn't pee on it.. Just stupid accident.

I watched a programme on Discovery Channel, which showed that this type of thing is a myth.I guess the Discovery Channel can be wrong once in a while.

Well, I've seen 'Braniac' or something similar and they proved that it's possible.

Language / Swojego vs swego, and friends [6]

Is there some grammatical distinction where one is more corrent than the other, is does it come down to just using whichever just sounds better?

2nd one. I think it's just use to sounds better.. It also might depend of the accent/region.. But both are correct.

But you quoted Wroclaw Boy asking of proof.

He asked me to prove mine, not Eliza's statements as I suppose.

UK, Ireland / Research on Identity of Poles in Britain [6]

I'm not living in UK, but I've been there for a couple of weeks as tourist and spoke to many immigrants from all over England and Wales during that time.

Well, I think most of Poles still call themselves Poles. Most of them came for some period of time, like 1, 2, 5 years. Some of them for better job or studies, some of them were just looking for some new adventures. Also, I think many of them will stay and become British one day. It's really easy to fall in love in Great Britain.. ;)

You ask about culture aspect.. I asked about it once. I think most of them don't know British culture at all. Actually it's hard to find it on the streets. Most of them are busy people who work hard, shopping, going to the pub or cinema at evnings and don't really know a lot about British folk culture.

Comparing to Ireland or Germany, I think there's lack of integration programmes / festivals for newcomers in United Kingdom.. But that's my private opinion.

If anyone has any advise for how i can carry out my research, it would be much appreciated!

I think that the best way to find out the answer for your question is ask your Polish friends, then you will get the answers from the first hand.

UK, Ireland / I married a Pole, we live in the UK - eligibility for Polish citizenship? [15]

Behave people! This forum was made for people who want to ask.

presenter76, I think you do qualify but that would be much better if you go to some office/embassy/consul and ask for details. But I think 3 years of marriage is really enough to get citizenship.

You know, now, after our both countries are EU member states you have same rights in Poland as Polish people have, no citizenship is necessary for anything anymore. ;)

Travel / Most Amazing places in Poland. What does it for you? [90]

Krakow :)

Poland Rynek

------------------

Something forgotten by most of Travel agencies.. Wieliczka Salt Mine! That's awesome, The mine reaches down to a depth of 327 meters and is over 300 km long!! It's also underground town with museums, restaurants, shops.. 15 miles from Krakow.

Poland Wieliczka

------------------

One of the Europe's best places for ski and other snow sports. That area is also home of Europe's rare animals, BEARS! Place called Zakopane.

Poland zakopane

------------------

One of my favorite's Polish places, Bieszczady National Park, located on south-eastern Poland. You can go there for climbing, great walk, great regional beer and food. You can also rent a small boat and sail down the lakes between the hills. Just look at that:
