Where do I get info on what I all need to move to Krakow for an extended time without giving up my american citizenship. I was there in 2004 and fell in love with everything associated with the area, I was raised in a small (300 population) town in Wisconsin u.s.a. and it was like being back home as far as the friendliness and warmth. Please help

All you need is a circulation or long stay visa. And plenty of cash or a job.

If you don't have a circulation or long stay visa, it's 90 days in any 180 day period. Try googling 'visa' and 'schengen'

Yes - I've been here 2 years now. But I have an EU passport so don't have to worry about visas!

I'm an American living in Gdansk. You've only got 90 days from the time you arrive until your visa expires, and gone are the days when you could make a border run to extend your visa for another 90 days. To stay longer you'll need a residency card valid for a year. You need to have 45 days left on your visa when you apply for this. It's a bureaucratic nightmare but it can be done. Fortunately my school helped me with this so I don't know all the necessary steps you'll have to follow.

BTW, I know of 22 Americans currently living in Poland. I'm sure there are more we don't know about. Check out myspace.com/americansinpoland

Aren't there several Americans already living in Krakow? I heard about SABRE relocating some of its operations to Krakow a few years ago. Maybe there is a way to get in touch with some of them there.

The majority of Americans are most likely students here for study. Some for short term, some a little longer. There isn't a huge American population in Krakow. Pretty much everyone I've met here is staying for the short term. The American Embassy in Krakow doesn't seem to really know how many Americans live in Krakow or Poland. It's been fairly recent, Dec 2007, that Americans have needed any paperwork to stay here. So the statistics I'm assuming are pretty limited.

You can get a temporary visa for a year, if you take Polish classes for example. But you will need to renew that every year. After 2 years or 3, not sure, you can apply for a permanent residency. However you have to prove that you have money to live here and a reason to live here. You can't just decide today I want to live in Poland and move here. Polish lessons is the easiest, or family ties.

I am American living in Europe for about 2 years now, just find out about this website and I am glad I am not alone. Since I got here I have not run into any Americans. Where are they in UK?
