News / POLAND TO SIGN US MISSILE SHIELD DEAL TONIGHT [239]

Have is the key word.

Then why are you in agreement with a missile base that most inhabitants don't want, if it upsets the balance and could possibly make things difficult for us living here.

Please, explain to me how this agreement helps Poland.

Am I supposed to believe that there are no US ships and subs stationed off these rogue states. Ships that have the power to down missiles before they even cross the rogue country's border.

News / POLAND TO SIGN US MISSILE SHIELD DEAL TONIGHT [239]

Freedom never was cheap.

What is that supposed to mean ?

In recent years everything has been fine and dandy over here. We already have freedom. A deliberate attempt to restart the cold war is hardly productive, is it ?

Are you willing to pay the extra cost of my fuel bill, should things take a turn for the worse ?

UK, Ireland / Postage from Poland to England - is it expensive for a Brit? [6]

expensive to post parcels home to the UK?

depends what is in it.

If I were sending two or three dress shirts or a couple of sweaters I would put them in a large envelope and send them as a letter. You are allowed to do this, and they will go by air mail.

I wouldn't say that Polish post is expensive, but you can make it cheaper for yourself, if you know the shortcuts.

Always make sure that whatever you send is registered one way or the other.

This has been dealt with on other threads.

News / Should Poland send volunteers to Georgia ? [100]

Should we send volunteers to Georgia ?

No. Russia will win whatever the rights and wrongs. Better for it to finish quickly rather than be drawn out with fools seeking glory.

News / Train-accident Krakow, Prague, 10 dead many victims [14]

I've seen some news footage. The bridge seems to have fallen onto the train. Only one carriage seemed to be damaged. The rest of the carriages remained upright and on the tracks. The figures for injured and dead seem to be coming down.

It doesn't look to me as though the train was travelling at high speed.

Love / Is sex with Polish guys different to sex with English guys? [173]

They came over here for the British beef:)

After reading some of the threads on here it seems to me that many like to try British beef, whilst leaving the main course simmering on the back burner.

just having fun with words :)

Work / british working in Poland with no language [43]

i want to live and work in Poland for 6 months, basically just to learn the language more.

One of the things about work is that you may be doing it on your own or in an enviroment where very little is said. Work therefore might not be the best option for learning a language.

The time of year is important. You won't be doing outside work in winter.
And in Summer there are plenty students to fill in the gaps.

You didn't mention where you'll be living. A village would make travel more difficult than you might expect, if you have to rely on public transport to get to work.

Teaching English might be an option, but only if you understand deference. But there again it won't help you with learning Polish.

Love / I am heart-broken by my polish guy [25]

I would simply say that because of the length of time... he is not going to contact you again.
That's how some people do business. And I am sure that deep down you understand this.
Time to start afresh... get yourself out and mingle.

Law / Child Support Payment in Poland [47]

if she resides outside the UK, she cannot have anything as the child is not living in the UK and is therefore out of jurisdiction: Child support does not cover:

It might be worth checking to see if there isn't a reciprocal agreement between Poland and the UK. Which I'm sure there is.

Life / Money - a taboo subject in Poland [25]

Dupek,

Nice of you to rearrange my words. It simply makes you look more of a twat than you did before.

Of course I don't expect anyone to do anything about it. Freedom of speech, and all that shite.

Life / Money - a taboo subject in Poland [25]

Dare I ask this ... but ... how much did they charge you for the frontline flea and tick prevention?

Depends how you buy it. I paid about 80zl for the 250ml spray. (last year)

News / End of voice-over on foreign films in Poland? [19]

Then according to this then BBC Prime has got it all wrong by putting voice-overs over all of it's programs in Poland.

I haven't been able to get BBC Prime for ages. But the channel did have a teletext option for subtitles (in more than one language).

And even now I can choose the language on Canal +

In other words. Digital technology makes all options possible.

How many people are going to wait for a film on TV just so they can read subtitles ?

News / End of voice-over on foreign films in Poland? [19]

no mention of dubbing. If the quality of dubbing matched that of the Germans then that might be the way forward. I have found that students only watch films that they are interested in and for the most part don't use subtitles as a learning tool.

Childrens programmes are dubbed.

So it seems to me that 'Dziennik' are a little out of touch.

Might it not also be true that the level of English is more to do with teaching style than how many films have subtitles.
