Life / Place to download Polish music? [28]

Great info on limewire, I guess I was lucky and did not get my computer sick...:)
My friend uses it for a couple of years at least and his comp is fine too. I will warn him anyway. Thanks!

UK, Ireland / Polish teenager murdered after arriving in UK [117]

There's got to be more to the story. Was it a random murder? Did she know the man? Did the parents? Perhaps it's too early to know all the details... It's a horrible tragedy.

Life / Place to download Polish music? [28]

My friend uses limewire.com
It has tons of free polish music and movies. I had it on my previous computer and created lots of CDs with polish and european songs, mostly older, but that's what I wanted... :)

I also heard about Kazaa.com but I don't know how good it is.

Law / Rules for exporting bikes from Poland? [13]

Good for you. I walk my friend's dog in the woods for 4-6 miles...a couple of times a week, if anybody would ever approach me, the dog would just hide behind me... :)

I often "ask" him, are you a dog or a chicken? He surely is not a dog for protection....He is a pet.

I will bring my dog

A pet dog? He will just wag the tail at the thieves. You need a vicious country dog for them to rip their pants off on sight! :)

Life / My neighbours in Poland are stealing all my things [180]

Sorry, if we were to harsh on you, maybe we just misunderstood your situation and your intentions in Poland. It seems like you chose to be in Poland hoping for a better life for yourself. I can certainly understand that. Good Luck on your venture and please don't skimp on food.

You should complain at the local Police station about the stealings. There is no excuse for that.

Go ask Greeks

I think they do better as business people (restaurant owners) in US than in their own country...They should take care of the stray cats and dogs running on the streets of Athens and other tourist places before considering themselves a fully civilized nation and a member of EU. The Acropolis times are over.

Exactly, jnowiski. First kielbasa and piwo, then a mobil phone, Harley, SUV, own farm...etc... :) I fought long and hard before i put this ringing monster in my purse. I tend to ignore it most of the time anyway....

Hey, Patrycja...we're on the same page. "Poor" wildrover...he's not getting any sympathy here today :)

How are you? You mentioned some health issues in the past...

Food / Hot tea in Poland; where can I find it? [46]

There was a saying in Poland: "They've got everything, the only thing they miss is bird's milk"...well, not any more. Ptasie mleczko = bird's milk. :)

Life / Opinions about Radio Maryja [134]

Unfortunately, I don't know this song, but I Googled... :)

teledyski80.info/html/perfect-chcemy-byc-soba.php

It sounds like early 80s song... Pretty patriotic crowd. I like the song too.

All the nations can be who they are

Ahem, I don't know about that, I think all countries changed a lot, the whole world changed. Poland still tries to hold on to good, old values and it stirs up some emotions, but in order to keep moving ahead, and to be a team player, wise decisions should be made by the government. I tend to like Lech K. I often hear fragments of his speeches, or phrases on the polish radio station. They are very patriotic. I hope, he will stand his ground where it needs to be, and gives in when it good for the future of the country...

"warto byc Polakiem, warto aby polska trwala..." (it's worthed to be a Pole, it's worthed for Poland to last...")

Life / Opinions about Radio Maryja [134]

Radio Maryja and its listeners are very critical of the neo-commie, or rather commie fascist media in Poland

There must be quite a few listeners in Chicago. There was a big Polish event in Millennium Park in Chicago last night. There were some polish artists, singers, Lech Kaczynski, Chicago mayor R. Daily...and others. I could not go (committed to work), but they were close to 10000 people. When I listened to the radio on my lunch today, lots of callers "complained" there was no holly mass before the event. Some said, there would be more people if Rydzik was the celebrity instead of Lech Kaczynski. I found it pretty sad. There are plenty of ethnic event in Chicago, Irish, Italian, Mexican, you name it...they don't seem to need the presence of church to consider it a successful event... Why do we? Just wondering...

My wife is Polish and I have no rights in Poland at all not to a passport or anything else for that matter

aaahm..you let it expire or you were banned?

I could not wish such harm on little children by taking them to such a dump

they already live in the "dump" of a father, so what's the difference?

That is always the test, see a girl and then compare her with her mother

Take a note of this young lads reading it. This is the wisest thing M ever said.. :)

Gosh, I missed so much being away from the net for a while...

Life / Opinions about Radio Maryja [134]

you encountered any 'antisemitism' in Radio Maryja programs

I did not hear anything to this effect even from my polish friends who go to church regularly, most do not like to listen to them at all. Frankly, I don't personally know anybody who does...I don't believe they spread any antisemitic lies however. I'd rather believe that they are in business to spread the word of God.

I just hear the radio is extremely conservative, and does not appeal to people who live in the real, everyday world.

You've got me curious. I think, I'll tune in sometimes... :-)

Life / Opinions about Radio Maryja [134]

This stuff is to heavy for me!
I never fully listened to Radio Maryja long enough to know their agenda, besides the obvious. It comes on one of the polish radio stations in Chicago for an hour or two starting at 7 pm... but I listen to the radio only in the car on my way to and from work, and I'm home by 6 :)

Language / Uses of otóż and lecz [5]

Otóż means well, (well) now i.e. when expecting someone, especially in a group of people, and she/he shows up, you may say "Otóż i on/ona" like announcing their arrival. In English: well, there he/she is...

Life / I want polish passport [86]

well, I don't know how it works in Poland, but I assume the process might be similar to the US one.
1st - find a girl to marry for love (or money) - a year or two
2nd - stay married at least 2 or 3 years before getting a legal status
3rd - you need to have 5 years of legal status before applying for citizenship.
4th - wait 3-6 months for your passport.
5th - you do the math
6th - smile

Love / Dating age difference - my 16 yo is dating a 26 yo Polish guy [102]

Most, if not all men,and not just polish, like younger women, a girl in this instance.
Personally, I don't like it. He's got no business to hang out with a teenager.
10 years age difference is not a big deal, but not in this case. She is just impressed with him because he works (I hope), has money, can take her places etc., but I'll be worried too.

Alper, we all seem to expect instant solution to our whims, but passports are not cooked in a microwave :) Be prepared to wait a long time.

Sleepless night G?
Hi Shawn, I involuntarily stayed away for a while. No internet and the "techies" could not figure out what was wrong...until they changed an outside cables.

In the process, I had all equipment inside i.e.cables, modem IVP etc..replaced for nothing, hehehehe.

Life / Why don't Polish service workers smile? [36]

He ya, regionp...I hope that your wife smiles at you a lot, and that's what counts. Who cares about a smiling clerk. Just get me what i need and I'm out of there!

Anyway, when I get pictures in my email from Poland, some people are serious, no big hahaha in the pics...but, there is usually a hint of a smile and a twinkle in the eye :)

USA, Canada / Polish Festival - Chicago [229]

Ranj, I found a prayer in Latin, it should work better! (I had it memorized in the past, as mass in Poland used to be in Latin)

Ave Maria
Gratia plena
Maria, gratia plena
Maria, gratia plena
Ave, ave dominus
Dominus tecum
Benedicta tu in mulieribus
Et benedictus
Et benedictus fructus ventris
Ventris tuae, Jesus

Ave Maria
Ave Maria, gratia plena
Maria, gratia plena
Maria, gratia plena
Ave, ave dominus
Dominus tecum etc etc etc

On that note, enough of good Taste of Polonia memories for tonight - for me.
It's time for bed.
