Life / English man is getting married in Poland - Polish Church issue [37]

You dont need to be a catholic. From what I remember we just got some sort of doc from our local polish priest (in London)which gave the go ahead. I had to pretend to him that I thought Catholicism was a really good idea and that I didnt think it absurd to live my life by the morals of several millenia old Jewish myths and legends. He lapped it up, well that and the bribe my wife had to give him.

I'm not sure he saw the irony in him giving us a speech on our future children being brought up with strong christian morals and the fact that we had to bribe him to make it happen.

UK, Ireland / Why do Poles come to England? [514]

"when the Russian soldiers would return to their homeland after their magnificiant work freeing eastern Europe in 1945."

You need to read a book mate.

What did the Russians 'free' Eastern Europe from? What freedoms did Eastern Europeans attain post-1945?

News / Poland biggest problem [125]

Lack of confidence in their abilities is a problem.
Poles are often educated and have the neccessary cultural
background to fit in Anglo-saxon business practices but
seem to doubt their own abilties.

I think this is changing though as I see more and more Poles
in office jobs rather than manual ones.

Another problem is that Polish men really need to stop
cutting their own hair.

And ban moustaches.

News / How Poles truly feel about their situation in Poland and being in EU? [76]

Free money! whats not to like?

Poles cant complain about being a cheap source of labour, most goods and services(including labour)are cheaper somewhere. The Japs used to build car factories in the north of England because it made economic sense, not anymore though. Why should Poland be any different?!

It seems there is an (I think minority) opinion in Poland that Poland was was going to get lots of money from the EU to improve its infrastructure and not give anything in return. You can see this attitude in the present government. Poland is in a contract with the EU and as a major recipient of funding, is a minor partner. Hopefully this will change within the next 20 years as Poland looks to emulate the northen European states rather than the southern ones.

USA, Canada / Americans who call themselves Polish - how do you feel about that? [112]

The reason I was posing the question was because of Beckski's earlier responses on the subject. I wasnt sure if it was a a generally held belief in America that because someone has the same accent as you they therefore dont have an accent.

Understandable on a very basic level. Funny nonetheless.

UK, Ireland / English people attitude towards Poles? [761]

"English people.. who they often consider to be stupid, lazy and lacking in culture. "

I can understand why Poles think this as I live in South East London and this description describes most of the people round here. I imagine its the same in most British urban areas. Poland probably has as many morons as here, however in Poland the morons dont seem to express their level of retardation with such gusto in public.
