News / Donald Tusk - the worst PM of 3rd RP. [79]

Corporation income tax is the 3rd rate thing. Generally fiscalization rate in Poland is one of the highest in the world.

Facts, not personal feeling like "at least he is normal". At least 3.

News / Donald Tusk - the worst PM of 3rd RP. [79]

What did u expect him to do Greg? What was in his party manifesto?

Hmm... lower taxes, reform of public finances - less on administration, benefits and other subsidies, more on infrastruture, science etc. less burocracy, simple law, privatization most of still state owned companies and general liberalisation of the economy, educational bonds, strong fight against corruption and many other things.

Tusk's "government" did nothing. So far they haven't even touched any important issue and what's worse they don't even plan to do anything.

There is not much he can do as Poland's growth is almost on autopilot with little maintenance issues from the government.

You must be joking. Poland's growth has been happening only because after communism we were starting from the very low level - state ownership was replaced in most cases by the private one, much more effective of course, technology from WW2 era was replaced by much better western solutions - add to that much lower wages, which attracted many western investors and that all together was giving some growth but that won't last forever especially that global crisis is coming. Have you ever been running business here ? We've got one of the highest taxes in the world and one of the biggest and worst administration, we have hundreds bilions of debt and add to that tens more every year. Without very serious reform we will never reach anything even close to the western level of developement. And in every democratic country politicians are deciding about fiscal policy and law - the most important things for the economy.

run away to your alcoholic haze for a couple of days

Yawn...

Genealogy / Do I look Polish? (Part II -- Much more detail than other topic) [109]

Because of the whole Prussian Empire thing, my great-grandmother spent her entire life in the dark concerning her Polish roots (her family was from West Pomeranian Voivodeship).

The same thing happened with my great-grandfather, whose family came from Lower Silesia

Hmm... So they were Polish or you don't know ? Because before 1945 vast majority of people living in these areas were Germanics.

History / Responsibility for Murder of Catholic Poles during WWII ? [172]

Wrong. Indeed, it is essential to correctly identity who was who. Just like in the USA

USA is a country created by emigrants, so that's something different.

Catholic Poles (who made up approximately 85% of the population during that time.

NO. Only ~70%.

History / Responsibility for Murder of Catholic Poles during WWII ? [172]

My answer to this question, in order, was: Germans, Russians, and Various Others.

Yep. However after all I would change Russians with Soviets.

Any opinions and numbers to support your statements? Thanks.

It depends If you mean Polish citizens or ethnic Poles... and even then It is difficult to give exact numbers as for example many Ukraininans and Belorussians were heavily Polonized, Nazi definition of a Jew included also Catholics with one Jewish grandparent... or It's hard to say, who was responsible for deaths of people killed by Red Army's artillery or air force, when the eastern front was going through Polish lands... or Poles forced to work in German factories, who died when they were bombed by allied (including Polish) air force... or If some child, who died because there wasn't any doctor - the only one in the area was a Jew, so was sent "to take a shower".

But I would say that in case of ethnic Poles that's more or less:
2-2.1 million for Gerries, 400-500k for Soviets and 100k for "others".

not sure about these various others though.. who?

Have mercy...

News / "EU Politicians Angered By Polish Chemical Castration Plan" [45]

death penalty doesn't discourage anyone.

Prove It.

I think it will greatly reduce the crime against children if they know that the
sentence is castoration..

Yes, that would definately help but in this case we're not talking about real castration but "chemical castration", which is just taking pills to reduce sexual needs.

The whole "chemical castration" is a total crap. I thought that Tusk was talking about normal castration and these are some pills... pervs must take them all the time and once you let them out of prison, there's no way to control If they really do that.

News / Eat fish you idiot! (EU massive media campaign in Poland) [54]

Also Polish institute of Adam Smith published some time ago some report (?) that we have four time more bureaucrats than in 1989.

It is not so easy to compare these things as in PRL vast majority of economy was owned by the state and many people working in state owned companies were doing things, which should be done by administracion but obviously there are too many people working in the administration and their number is growing.

Work / praca magisterska (master's degree) - any impact on career in Poland [13]

for a pole who didn't achieve their praca magisterska, how (if at all) will this affect their career and life prospects?

Well, he/she just won't have a master degree and how will affect his/her career ? Some people are billioners without any degree, some other with a degree aren't even making avg salary but It's definately better to have It.

Study / Polish Open University in Warsaw [6]

According to "Wprost" they are in top 10 non-public schools in last years, so doesn't seem to be bad but that's economical school, not technical.

Life / People with Down Syndrome/Mental disability in Poland [26]

In Poland, nobody would just think of it - such boy would stay at home and never earn a grosz.

Not really surprising. Why hire "mentally handicapped" If you can have a normal worker ?
