Life / Talk-sex in Poland...are Poles really prude? [44]

dubbed by young female voice..done the way so you can also hear S. Johanson talking. She also has a book in polish, titled like her TV program: "Porozmawiajmy o seksie" (Let's talk about sex). Her tv show is on daily at midnight.

Life / Moving back to Poland after 20 unhappy years in Canada and USA [70]

After 20 years in US and Kanada Im not financialy set and have to work.

I'm not in your shoes but I would not worry too much and not even think too much about your future life in Poland. You are very likely to find something to suit you well when back. You will just see what is available and act when already in Poland.

Wories about unknown future was something that only was preventing me from going back earlier. I wasted at least several years in USA, had simply stayed for some years too long. Before going back, Poland was - in my mind - a big unknown. It turned out that Poland was both: the same and ..new.

Life / Moving back to Poland after 20 unhappy years in Canada and USA [70]

I never regretted the move after 12 years in US. From day one I felt in Poland like being back home. First two years were just hilarious! Everything made me very happy ..from traveling by PKP to mushroom picking and watching polish tv for hours...

Unemployment is now about !! 6%. With gained experience -if you have some entrepreneur wibe in you - you should be able to set your own way making an income with no problem. Poland is not saturated in so many business fields and competition is easy to overcome.

Language / Polish Leter Confusion [13]

Rucinski Antoni is an author of this letter , his signature ends the latter.
Waclaw Wolynski is likely the receiving party.
As far as I know it was quite common to put address and name not only on envelope but also inside the letter itself. If the package (envelope) was damaged the content still was deliverable. Also this letter could be deliverd not by mail but personally (privacy was not such an issue, I guess)

Language / IN ANGLODOM -- MISS KOWALSKA OR KOWALSKI? [5]

If a Polish female has Mańkowska in her Polish passport, may she retain it in her US/Canadian official documents?

I think, yes. When she marries Kowalski she is Kowalski and all her female children are Kowalski (unless they'd like to apply for name change which is easy as far as I know)

Intresting though is when Mankowska is not maried and has a male child. Her son would be Mankowska then.

Travel / Driving to Świnoujście [5]

and no ferry over Swina river?
...had a great time in Swinoujscie myself couple days ago. I went to see Liga2 football match there (FC Flota Swinoujscie) and the stadium was 150 m from the beach. Got there early, bought match ticket and spend 1 hr at the beach waiting for kick off.

nice shootings anyway and good choice of music

Travel / Dzialdowo train station at night [5]

I'd sugest not to take that 11.25 train as you may find yourself the only waiting passanger at that train station along with one or two local homeless.

Consider taking a cab from the airport, 2 hours is planty of time to reach Warszawa Centralna station... or ...if late take a bus from Warsaw to Olsztyn at 19.45 (plus one leaving at 22.00 on Sundays)

Love / Polish Wedding Shoes [7]

I know bride needs to keep a small coin in her wedding shoes..for prosperity I think. Now it has been changed to papper money.

Also bride shouldn't ever receive shoes from her husband-to be, as she would leave him.

Study / Cost for a moderate student life in Poland? [29]

your accomodation and food would take 300 euro/month at least and you would have to be spending it wisly. Nevertheless it'd be enough for decent food and fair, shared accomodation.

cheers

Travel / Szczecin - small and compact or a sprawl? [14]

however is it an easy place to get around? Have looked at a couple of maps, but it's really hard to tell

Stay on the left side of Odra river where the town center is. Getting to Szczecin center may take up to one hour from some locations on the right side of Odra - town has huge lake within its borders, crossing bridges with trafic can take time.

Travel / Visiting Szczecin, communication and English in the city [6]

When at the table grab a glass of water, drink half immidietly. When vodka is served take all vodka into your mouth, do not swallow but fill up your water glass instead.

Start drinking when 50% of guest are drunk. Don't eat much of anything, more dishes are comming. Never refuse when asked for a dance. To make good impression ask someone to dance with you.

It is very sad, but there is no other nationality than the Polish which has disappointed me the most
