News / What are your 10 fave things about Poland? And 10 least favourite? [130]

True if she is your Granny. if she isn't and its between you and Babcia fighting for a spot in line, watch your balls! Everybody knows Babcia plays dirty. comes from those years under communism waiting in line for toilet paper and ocet.

Travel / Tips for travel with 1 year old needed [17]

I assume you wouldn't object if you were attacked by a Pitbull which has been mistreated by its meathead owner, it's what mistreated Pitbulls do.

Ok your logic is flawed. Do you have kids if not then you are not qualified to even respond.
Did I say "let your child cry the whole flight? No
The fact is most one year olds don't talk so he/she cant say "Dearest Mother my ears hurt because of the cabin pressure, might I have a cold drink so the swallow releives the pressure of my ears?" instead they cry.

Few people know how difficult it can be to travel with children. Once again I never advised to "let your baby scream for 9 hours while you read the Skymall, I said

don't worry if he yells a bit its what babies do

"A bit" in this context means "A little" Mr. Harry its not selfish at all.
I would love to see your parenting skills if you equate raising a child with raising a dog. As usual this forum full of negative people who don't read the whole post and simply love to nit-pick and find fault with everything so they can feel good about themselves by putting others down, hey just like a 2 year old. Next I guess you'll ignore my point and pick on my spelling or grammar or run on sentences or etc. So fukin boring.

They should provide a little basinette which is like a little bed/basket which they affix to the wall. They should also seat you near the wall part (I don't know what its called) maybe Bulkhead? I found the service on Lot while in flight is great. On the ground in Poland it sucks! I would bring the little car-seat carrier as it makes going through the airport easier and they will take anything you don't need from you as you board and give it back as you de-plane. Don't feel bad if your baby cries and some people get ruffled what can you do. Just be bold demand what your baby needs and don't worry if he yells a bit its what babies do. Generally flight attendants are very helpful. We have a two year old, now thats fun traveling!

USA, Canada / New York trip suggestions [56]

Nope. Jazz has nothing to do with the origin of the term.

Ok there are many stories but most people agree prior to the Apple industry wanting to raise profits, Jazz Musicians referred to NYC as the Big Apple.

USA, Canada / New York trip suggestions [56]

NYC isn't really known for jazz (or so I think).

thats why its called the big apple as jazz musicians view new York as the Holy Grail of Jazz go to the Blue note on West Third near 6th ave.

USA, Canada / Importing a car from the US to Poland [12]

Merged: Taxes and Duties for cars shipped to Poland from USA

Does anyone know how much taxes one would expect to pay on an automobile shipped from the USA to Poland? This is not an auto for personal use but to be sold in Poland for about $10,000 ?

Thanks all.

Law / Needing Help with Research Project about Poland (market a product) [11]

Some ideas maybe:
When I lived in Poland I was in shock they still drank instant coffee and almost nobody sold coffee to go!
Burritos! good fast cheap Mexican food the key word here is "Good"
Good Pizza like from New York would sell like crazy, Poles put ketchup on Pizza.
automatic train ticket machines! you can wait hours as Babcia asks for tickets and train times for the next five years, and PKP doesn't care if its overbooked anyway.

laundromats
t-shirts with Polish writing on them
automatic billpay offices
Chocolate chip cookies(or any good cookies for that matter) biscuits? in English.
There are a few ideas should make you millions

Life / I'm an American who lived in Poland for 6 years. I'm not welcome anymore. [169]

It should seem pretty obvious that until fairly recently there were really very few jobs for foreigners other than teaching English, unless you were fluent in Polish, so why would an American in this case even try?

It would be idiotic to come to Poland without any contacts or knowledge of the job market. But it seems Mr. Mansun managed to survive for six years so it must not have been that bad. It isn't what nationality you are but what are you qualified to do.

Even though Americans poo-poo doesn't stink, if you cant "mowi" you really can't expect a good job. Lastly if you asked any American (geographically challenged nation that we are) where in Europe are their many jobs no one would say Poland. if the average idiot American knows anything about Poland they know it is struggling with high unemployment. Everyone I knew thought I was an idiot for working there for so little.

Life / How much do you HATE POLISH PEOPLE and POLAND [1260]

Robert Conrad was a cheesy actor. star of "the Blacksheep Squadron" and early Duracell battery pitch-man. I laughed myself to tears at the mistake. Poor Jozef spun in his crypt.

USA, Canada / Polish Marriage Lessons - NJ - Help Needed [3]

I would ask to talk to the head priest but make certain they will accept your "lessons" in Poland or you will have to do it again and get everythingin writing. Your Fiance's church should be able to help with what the exact documentation is.

Not to discourage you but my wife and I wanted to have a Polish wedding after our U.S. wedding and the red tape was too much so we bagged the idea and had a party instead, but my wifes family is protestant. Protestant Poles who knew?

They are less rigid than the Catholics.

History / Poland Betrayed in WW2 [243]

Does anyone know of any good books in English about the Polish point of view of living under Stalinist rule?

And these people should be remembered and counted. And honored.

History / Poland Betrayed in WW2 [243]

I think Polish history should give young Poles hope and pride that their Grandparents or great-Granparents overcame such terrible adversity. It should instill a sense of encouragement that they can change Poland for the better. But alas maybe I'm just a dreamer.

Life / Polish Train Travel - Scary? [101]

I have been shaken down several times by the conductor who insisted I had the wrong ticket and forced me to pay more money. As my Polish got better this happened less.

I used to commute everyday for 6 months from Katowice to Krakow. The real crime is the wait to by a ticket. My advice to foreigners is don't talk too loudly (especially my fellow Americans) and look a little crazy and people will leave you alone, blink your eyes a lot, seriously it works. On crowded trains often no one sat next to me.

Work / Americans teaching english...your help please! [51]

You can do some TESOL classes online for $200 or so. I taught for years without any certification this was in Katowice where the need for teachers (Native Speakers) is great.

I kept my job because I was good. I had my student loans deferred but it took some convincing and some paperwork from my boss in Poland. Check out Empik Schools they pay well and care about their teachers. Also you can look for Callan schools you need no certificate but its a method that gets tedious, and beware of TOP English School in Katowice the boss is slimy. If you really want to live in Poland and teach go to a city that is less popular than Warsaw or Krakow as they are already chock full of native speakers so training and certificates are more necessary in those places. I recommend Katowice as per your other degree in business, as you could open up other oportunities by teaching, and meeting people. It is not a pretty city but it is growing and many corporations are opening offices there as it is cheaper than Krakow but close to Krakow.

Life / Poland and doctors [37]

I was in Katowice for 3 years and had nothing but good experiences at the Doctors. This was from 2004-2007. My daughter was born in Mikolow and the staff was great.

I think if you find a doctor who speaks English they will be happy to help you provided you have a real medical condition and some documentation. FYI Valium is cheaper than aspirin in Poland. If you are in Katowice e-mail me and I will tell you where to go.

USA, Canada / Where can I get Zywiec near San Diego [25]

Thanks for the info! I went to the Polish Festival there I think, it wasn't so great the folks were not as friendly as the festival in New York nor were the cops who forced everyone to drink in a stinky hot tent.

USA, Canada / The 2nd Amendment (USA), the right to own guns [261]

Guns are an inanimate object. Put a bullet next to a gun, lay it on the table and do not touch it.

And an eight year old will, and then he will blow his friends brains out, by mistake of course. its simple less guns equals less murders.

And I don't think you can use the KGB or Gestapo as an argument against gun control, as it wasn't ordinary militia's that thwarted these organizations.

And yes I trust the police and military to protect me more than I trust some militia nuts or some guy I read on a forum.

And Believe me I do not love the Government.
The gun laws are not strict enough ask any 16 year old in L.A. where to get a gun he'll tell ya. Its an archaic law from a different time John P. time to evolve. Read about Ghandi.
