Food / Popular drink shots in Poland? [28]

Triple sec/ Blue curaco are pretty much the same thing, different color

not correct Blue Curaçao is made from a orange like fuit from island of Curaçao, Tripple sec is made from orange's from the Caribian region (Blue being about 21% abv and Triple sec about 40%abv) tripple sec being triple distilled (like vodka), hense its name..

Sorry to be so picky but really they are different... Triple Sec is quite dry to taste Blue isnt!

Work / The Callan Teaching Method...... in Poland [11]

Well I have looked it up on the forum but have not found a discussion about just peoples feelings toward to Callan... I presume quite a lot of members on here are natives.. or have teached Callan method sometime in there life!....

So were I live i have no real choice... for the school it is important to teach Callan method as it provides 1/3 of the weekly lessons... one school stopped Callan and all the students come to us because they just liked the method.. Plus the reputation of the method (they think is has a great reputation)..

Although i don't agree this method is the best or completely effective i think for is's a nice easy couple of hours a week were i have to do no prep... just open the book and talk like I'm enjoying the lesson.. don't get me wrong... there is NO WAY I could do more than 5-6 hours a week it would bore me!

Please, I'm interested in your opinions...

Life / Getting married in Polska - some advice required about mixing traditions [27]

Ok i have been to Polish-Polish & Polish-Irish Weddings in Poland: things that can be odd,

Throwing rice and 1gr outside the church so be prepared to pick up a load of 1gr's

When you arrive at the reception, be ready to throw your champange glass over your sholder and then clean it up after you

One of the problems i noticed was getting the British people to take part in the game's especalliy after you hav just eaten a massive meal!

Teaching your British people to drink vodka or bear... not to mix them!... but they need to have vodka to do toasts so its better to drink vodka!

Hope that helps, just ask if you need to know anything else

Food / Chocolate flavored vodka [11]

but maybe with the right recipe I will do so.

To be honest it really isnt that hard to make..

Buy vodka and your prefured chocolate

Boil some hot water in a pan on the cooker, with a glass bowl on the top... (a tipical way to melt chocolate)

Melt your chocolate in the glass bowl (While still on the pan)

Add vodka but dont get the mixture to hot or you will boil off the alcohol

Keep mixing it in untill the chocolate and vodka mix togther properly (May take some time if your useing mars bars!)

Bottle up and stick in the freezer..

Dont do what i did and use 96% sprit.. i let it get to hot and nearly burned the flat down lol

I did read you can just stuff mars bars in a bottle of vodka and leave it for a while but im not sure about it

Hope that helps :)

Depends which city you want to live in.. its perfectly possible in a smaller town.. were i live we have a bed flat plus all bills for approx 1000zl but in a city i would think it would be 1500zl + so no it wouldnt be possible..

IF you really want to come to Poland in that money you would have to live out of city... may i ask what it is you would be doing and were??

Food / Where to find Pear Cider in Kraków [3]

Well
Perry is a special pear which grows in UK which is made into Perry (not cider), the problem being it only grows in Glostershire and is hard to grown anywhere else so they cannot make enough Perry to supply out of the UK, to buy real Perry is quite a task in the UK although possible.

Pear cider is cider which is made from any pear and quite often blended with apples to bulk it up.. which is the case for Kopperberg, Pear Bulmers etc..

As for buying in in Poland... it is hard to evan get normal cider, i have never managed to find the pear variety, although i believe you can buy the alcohol free Kopperberg from Ikea so possibly you can the the alcohol variety!

Sorry i cannot be of more help

Law / It is impossible to get temporary residency in Poland [23]

For me: (living in Wroclaw county)

Temperary registration at town hall were you live.. maybe you can get your girlfriends dad to register you at his flat/house.
Once compleated you go to county hall to compleate your 5 year stay..
i needed:

1 copy of my passport
1 copy of my NHS card
1 hand written letter from my fiancee saying while im in poland she will supply cash if i need it.
1zł.... yes 1
They gave me a 4 page form in english and polish but you fill it out in polish.

1 month and i have a blue peice of paper with a stamp on it!
then we went back to town hall and they supplyed me with PESL number... (well after a week's wait)

Take your girlfriend wth you while you need to sort this out... it will be much easier and save you lots of time waiting for the only person in town hall who speaks english to come and try explain!

Food / Nice Cytrynówka Recipe... only takes 30mins!... please add your own also! [NEW]

So I thought I would share my recipe for Cytrynówka with you all :)

You will need:
6 Lemons
2 Cups of sugar
2 Cups of water
1/2 Ltr of spirituous

Peel your lemons and chop into slices
Add sugar and water
Boil in a pan
Turn the gas down to low
Add sprit and ignite put lid on straight away
Leave on low heat for 1 min (Keep and eye on it so you do not burn your house down!)
Put into bottles... of course it will be stupidly hot so be careful :)
When cooled down stick in the freezer and enjoy :)

I look forward to hearing some different recipes and enjoy...

Really nice and strong

UK, Ireland / Migrant workers face rental block [59]

To be honest I know this part of the UK quite well as one of my parents come from there and have an uncle who has a very successful business there (who employs loads of Polish people)... the locals are not very accepting to foreigners and never have been!!

I always think of this area as a family in-breading area of the UK, even me as a british citizen is saddened by this article....

Travel / Airfare from Frankfurt to Gdansk in August [6]

Well if you really need to save money i would:

Fly on Wizz Air to Katowice then get the train (which takes 10hours) but only costs £20 to Gdansk

Maybe you can get all this to work for you.....

wizzair.com for flight
rozklad-pkp.pl/?q=en/node/143 for trains in Poland.

Hope you find something :)
