PolAm style Thanksgiving?

I found a delicious new meal. It involves roasted turkey breast and ultra delicious Butternut squash. First, I roast a turkey breast after seasoning it with plenty of salt, pepper and ground thyme. Then I chop up half a Butternut squash and put it in a skillet with some olive oil coating the bottom in a single layer. I salt and pepper it, cover and cook on medium low heat until the squash is somewhat tender. I chop some of the turkey at this point, while the squash is cooking. After flipping the chunks of squash over to cook the sides facing up, I add the chopped turkey and cover. After five minutes, I stir it all up cover and cook longer, until turkey is heated thoroughly.

This combination is really delicious. I prefer the Butternut to sweet potatoes.

What does your PolAm family serve on Thanksgiving? Anything beyond the standard mainstream fare of turkey with sage dressing, sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce and pumpkin pie?

In your experience, does that stereotypical 'big Thanksgiving dinner with all the trimings' differ in any way in Polish-American families from the mainstrteam menu? Or Polish-Canadian families (where Thanksgiving is celebrated in October) for that matter? In fact, is the mainstream Canadian Thanksgiving meal identical to the US one?

one day u might actually check your own threads.

We always celebrated Thanksgiving even though we came here from Poland and always just the traditional American way.

I'm just wondering.......if you don't eat standard fare on Thanksgiving......aren't you just eating food that happens to be on Thanksgiving?

anyway, i always missed Thanksgiving when I was in Poland. Not for the food, I don't really care for typical Thanksgiving food, it was more because of the way the holiday is set up. It always lands on a Thursday which means Wednesday evening, you can go out and party somewhere with your friends (it's considered the busiest pub night in the USA) and Thursday you do nothing but sit around, watch NFL and stuff yourself. Friday is also a day off and then you still got the weekend. It's a perfect 4 day weekend every year, way better than Christmas or New Year's or Easter which never result in 4 straight days off.
