Hi, my wife is Polish and remembers these apples from her youth. Is there anywhere in the UK I can buy these apples for her?

Thanks, Pete

That easy? Surprised my wife didn't simply go out and buy them!

Spoke to my wife and she said she hasn't seen them in any of the polish shops in Brighton or in Nottingham. Is there a Polish deli hypermarket somewhere in London?

these are the very seasonal apples - they tend to rippen very early - like early middle July - and they do not preserve well (only a couple of weeks) - but man they are tasty (and the fragrance) - there is no way you can have these apples in British shops or on British markets - if you really want to have them you need to organise a private import from Poland and as said earlier only in the season - they are completely seasonal in Poland too - an apple pie with papierówki is simply delicious

I do too. My fav apples when a kid. I used to roam orchards and pick them from trees during vacations in southern Poland.

No more traditional papierówki in Krakow today. Pity.

there is also another way to have them - it's to buy a papierówka seedling and to plant it somewhere you can (like in your garden) - you have to remember however that this kind of the apple tree can grow pretty big (if you just let it) - it can hardly be compared to those typical commercial orchard apple trees

Yeah, a great fragrant memory from childhood! Alas, for some reason I have never seen papierówki in Warsaw (not that I was looking very hard, or at all in the past 20 years :-). My grandpa had a few trees on his farm, way back when. Delicious.

Does anyone who has some trees planted in the UK have some for sale or are there any shops in the South East which sell them?

Yes, from my youth, too. But I can`t see them in any shops in Poland today. That is why I planted one paper-apple tree in my orchard.
