Asking for some help with research for a short film project

Hello,
My name is Freddy Benedict Ray. I am a filmmaker and journalist from Rutland, near Leicestershire. The reason I am contacting the forum is to ask about the possibility of some help with research for a project of mine. I am currently in the process of researching and writing a short film themed around the subject of labour exploitation involving migrant workers. The research is aimed to inform a short film project that I will be presenting to the BFI and FilmHubMidlands for short film funding next year.

My hope is that somebody here could possibly help me in my research. Witness accounts, case studies, personal stories or any information any of you would be willing to give me. For my future work in film, research and authenticity is paramount. If there was any time that you would be kind enough to give me, whether that be a zoom call or phone call, it would be very much appreciated.

My initial interest originates from my own personal work that I did in rural agriculture as a teenager. I worked with people who had emigrated from Poland and I hope to shape a character and story from both memory and help from people such as yourself.

I was exploited while in the NYC. I was working in a Italian construction company. Italian means mafia, of course. We were demolition workers, most of us Polish illegals, two Slovaks, one Lithuanian. We were pulling down an obsolete subway station somewhere in Brooklyn. It was a weekend job, quite strenuous coz we had to crack the concrete ceilings of the station with those jackhammers. We got paychecks on Mondays. One Monday I came to collect my check but it wasn`t in the office. MiSSing! I am still wondering if it was our Am Italian supervisor - Franco, you mafia bastard! - or another worker impersonated me and received the check. I lost about 150$.

Good thing, you didn't have to work as a mafia killer. It would be a good topic for a filmmaker.
