Is it good to buy very expensive handcrafted, goodyear welted shoes that you have to wear for years because it is a pity to throw away.

For me, there's one judge of quality for shoes. Comfort.

Very fancy ones look nice, but there's not much difference between mid priced shoes and cheaper ones.

I think it depends on people.

- How much do you care about fashion
- How many different pairs you need
- How quickly do you get bored

I find recent fashion in shows a bit... bizarre.

It is easier for woman, they usually have many pairs of shoes. Men often have only a few pairs of shoes, if they are expensive shoes, they must wear them for a long time, often for years. It is not very hygienic and men who are flimsy by nature do not throw away their good shoes just because they are old and stinky.

CCC was not very successful in Germany. The have sold the shops to RENO. Pity for CCC. But I think that shoes made in Poland are year for year better. Next time they ( or somebody else ) will be successful. Hope so

Adrian once remarked that Polish leather shoes and boots are some of the best in the world and priced right.

Yes Johnny, when you read Handelsman & Royce, you think that it is some great expensive company from abroad and meanwhile it is a small company from Katowice in Poland that makes custom made Goodyear welted leather shoes. High quality made in Poland.

Simple answer is yes. Long after you forget about the price, the quality will remain. My grandmother who survived the October Revolution and every other event since, going to the 1990s, wore things which were made 60-70 years ago. Her argument was that "you need to know how to wear things".

So true,I have seen that in Poland a lot, just like some Poles and eastern Europeans wear those tight speedos in the pool and at the beach

I buy mine at Marshalls, usually not more then 60$.For the last 15 years or so I only use loafers as they are very convenient esp in Poland where you have to take them off going to someones house or zip on ankle highs. Also good to travel easy to slip on and off.

Loafers in winter? I use in winter waterresistant shoes. And you? One can say: Show me your wardrobe with shoes and I will tell you who you are. With loafers only you are a... traveler?

@Novichok

The Roman Empire was built on sandals. I thought the Romans were the ones that kicked the gay guys' butts?

The Roman Empire was built on sandals.

No wonder they lost it all. You can't fight wearing sandals. I would rather walk barefooted.

You can buy roman sandals until today. 2000 years ago it was high tech and design icon, and even bisex.

That does not make them good as shoes. Just curious... What's the justification to buy sandals as opposed to normal running shoes?

Entirely normal to wear them in hot countries with the dust of the desert and unmade roads. Very practical once you get used to them.

Runnings shoes, or creps, with socks confine your feet in the summer which makes them sweat which makes them a petri dish for toe jam fungus.

Especially if you workout at a kick boxing gym like I do.
Once the snow is gone my sandals come out.
