we all need to consume less and live within our means
Unfortunately, there are still too many people who refuse to acknowledge this obvious fact.
This has nothing to do with 40 vs 4. Today. Right now.
Well, it has. The current ridiculous level of consumptionism in America is unsustainable. Today. Right now.
So, you have to introduce drastic austerity measures. Today. Right now.
At the moment people want more stuff - fast, cheap, and convenient. That leads companies to: outsource to low-wage countries, cut costs wherever possible, prioritize quantity over quality. If American consumers were a bit less retarded about fast fashion, next-day shipping, or replacing their phones every 2 years, there wouldn't be such intense pressure to find the cheapest labor available.
It's really not rocket science, and it should be the job of a good president to explain it to people.
