...your American is still not perfect after some forty years in the States:-)

That sentence shows that you are not an American. The real ones never refer to the United States as "the States". It's a Euro import.

at least it's not semen on your pants.

I told you to put that bottle away...

Nobody American teacher ever said: Who is the president of the States"?

always say they're from the States.

You used to hear 'stateside'. Popular among a certain type of early/mid-1980s business executive/office monkey who'd been there once on holiday to Florida and once on a business trip to New Jersey until people started laughing at them for saying it.

I'd forgotten that one, considering I ever knew it.

@Rich, while we don't say "Who is the president of the States?"
people often refer to the US as either the United States or the States, the latter
in casual conversation.
Novichok  8 | 10685

Post a link to a website where they refer to the US as "the States".

They are a depressing bunch aren't they.
amiga came on here today drunk and Novi picked right up on it also.
I just consider the source plus I am going on a very nice vacation soon.
Did you forget your own history again?

Ask him who contributed more to building America, the Black slaves or the Chinese & Indian slaves.
Send him on a fools errand googling for a day or two.
What a stooge he is.

How do you deal with these foreign morons on a daily basis?

...with derision and mockery...

They can't stand Trump because in this zero-sum world when we win they lose. It's that simple...

Hence:

EU tariffs - good

US tariffs - bad

New law in Michigan.
You are not allowed to even touch your cell phone in your car.
Period !
My buddy was sitting in a fast food drive thru waiting for his chow and picked up his cell phone to read his texts and got a warning by the police that he had just broken the law.
I for one love this law since I have blue tooth in my truck that I can answer and talk with the buttons on my steering wheel without touching my phone which is legal.
Only in America.

Same in Poland if you are in moving traffic including at a stop light

Not sure about private land like a Macdonald's though - they even want you to scan your phone when you are in line

as long as the engine is running...that's the law in Germany.

as long as the engine is running...that's the law in Germany

For us it's driving with one (unless it's hands free and integrated with the vehicle). If there is a serious accident and one party is using a mobile phone, they are automatically guilty and are always jailed. It is taken very seriously. After accidents, both/all parties' mobile phones are checked to see if there was any activity immediately before the accident.

The law is strict and that is better than the situation in countries where using mo ileΕ› while driving is entirely normal.

A few times in PL, I've been in Ubers where the driver has a video screen attached to the dashboard and is watching films/TV shows while they drive. Most recently one was watching an Uzbek soap opera. This should really be addressed since sooner or later someone will die in a crash due to this.

Like drinking and driving, people are still going to do it even with zero tolerance and a big fine.
The addiction is too great.
I still see just about every other car with the drivers palm talking.

I was once in an Uber and the driver was playing a game on his phone while driving. I told him to pull over and let me out, which he was very unhappy about (we were about 5% of the way to Modlin airport, so the ride would have been a nice earner for him).

Lyzko, don't ever try to outenglish me.

That won't be difficult...... you are both wrong anyway, Europeans mainly call people from the USA Americans.

They can't stand Trump

I object to that, Europeans are not universally against Trump.I think the jury is still out on him.

Only in America.

Slowly becoming a Police state, like much of Europe.

Dont the Brits call us Yanks? I like being the Yank, but it should be Yankee,,πŸ˜‚

For us it's driving with one (unless it's hands free and integrated with the vehicle). I

Practically every car has this option now unless its a niggggamobile πŸ˜†

Dont the Brits call us Yanks?

In polite conversation we would call you Americans.

Yanks is a bit like Brits, friendly but slightly derogatory.
