Eurovision - Today I will be ashamed to be Polish

maybe she and Joanna could do so together?

They'd be good as the main hosts.

National Velvet

Wasn't that Liz Taylor? Before my time.

And so it began as every year...Germany is already in the final, Poland has yet to qualify.

Poland has yet to qualify.

A very good chance this year to qualify (maybe get a top 10 finish or so). Unfortunately the sound is crap (often the case in the first semi-final, they usually get it together more by the final).

We'll see what happens.

My favorite this year is Finland. Ich komme! Ich komme!

Ms. Steczkowska qualified for the final. The song is a bit shouted, without a chorus. But it was enough. We'll see how the final goes on Saturday. My friends suggest "again" penultimate place for Germany.

Same same.

Countries that have worldwide hit songs send their shít songs to Eurovision

send their shít songs to Eurovision

Maybe at one time, the overall level of the contest has improved greatly in recent years as has the level of performance (esp since they started giving the performers ear mics)

The first semi-final didn't have any super standout songs but there were no total dogs either.... (Azerbaijan came close....).

as has the level of performance

Some of the acts are spectacular.

If you follow your own country who keep sending garbage despite other countries around Europe listening to their music the rest of the time and having laws to limit its airplay, it's sad to watch them plummet down the scoreboard.

Always Sweden and Ireland winning.

I still don't get why Israel and Australia take part in this show. Maybe just make it open for everybody then,? what's the point?
Some behind-the-scenes deals and cliques making money?

Australia

Australia and Israel are surrounded by stuff culturally further away and both countries buy a lot of TV from Europe, especially the Royaume-Unis

I still don't get why Israel and Australia take part in this show.

Both are members of the European Broadcasting Union...

Israel is dominated by those with European roots and since all their neighbors hate them it's a way to connect with some other countries.

Morocco participated once but refused to return as long as Israel participated (they could still participate if they wanted). Interestingly there have been a _lot_ of performers with Moroccan roots in recent years (including two time winner Loreen).

Australia was invited to participate on a particular anniversary and it was so popular in Europe (and Australia where the contest has a very big following) that they've continued.

since all their neighbors hate them

This is not a reason to make us "happy" with their music.

This is not a reason to make us "happy" with their music.

My idea is that currently (last couple of years) they're not participating in Eurovision but using Eurovision (and things like last year's protests and the booing in both years) to reinforce their idea that the world hates them so there's no use trying to please the world.

This year's performer survived the Oct 7 attack on the music festival.... are those booing saying they wish she'd been killed? that's how Israelis will process that.

are those booing saying they wish she'd been killed? that's how Israelis will process that.

Yes, this is like bringing Gaza to Geneva...on both sides.

are those booing saying they wish she'd been killed?

Yeah....one of the reasons I'm not interested anymore.

The israeli singer was a hostage of Hamas....she was tortured, raped, had to hide between corpses to survive....and these ***** are booing her?

No...No...No!

If that is the oh so human-loving LBGTQwhatever....f**** you all!

....sraeli singer Yuval Raphael, who survived Hamas' 2023 attack on Israel, faced protests including an alleged throat-slitting gesture during the Eurovision's opening event in Basel, Switzerland, over the weekend.

Hamas.

Hamas is a group that literally wants to force its religion on others, is misogynistic and extremely homophobic, hates Jews and wants to kill them.... and the left loves them more than anything.

Just like George Floyd was a drug addicted piece of crap who once held a gun to a pregnant woman's stomache and the left couldn't wait to turn him into a saint....

It's about miserable French songs, tacky Balkan costumes, crap Polish entrants, deliberately crap Irish ones since they're sick of winning, obvious bloc voting and about Sweden getting first place in the end.

Not about fúcking Israel and Gaza. That's been puked over plenty of other threads here.
Bratwurst Boy  8 | 12186
17 May 2025   #498
Yeah....I remember Eurovision also very much differently....not the puke-fest it has become...

It was best after the "Wende", as the Iron Curtain fell and people from the whole of Europe could take part....that was a total different mood!

It's about miserable French songs

What's the last Eurovision you watched?

Your comments seem like they're from 2009.... It's a whole 'nother critter now.

France has a great song with beautiful staging,

youtube.com/watch?v=TUyvT65c9ok

No former Jugoslav country made it into the final this year,

Poland's entry has been widely admired by fans.

Irish... yeah, they chose a crap song (though they haven't won in over 25 years), why they think a happy song about a poor dog killed by the USSR is suitable really is beyond me....

Sweden just might win this year but with the least Swedish entry imaginable... (compared with recent years). Its an uptempo folkish number about saunas sung in Finnish and Swedish....

youtube.com/watch?v=zQSPqZkKzRQ

A dark horse favorite of mine is Latvia... women dressed as fairies with beautiful harmonies

youtube.com/watch?v=tRTfxUJtDOs

I agree that Israeli-Gaza politics are the worst aspect now... but overall the songs and performances are kind of in a golden age....

Do keep up...

puke-fest

Far from that, and mostly fun. Even the dreary folk dancing or almost deliberately boring ones.

France has a great song with beautiful staging,

The frog one is about a miserable subject, and as for the Irish one; they know what they're doing. Dead dogs are never a vote winner

Poland's is like watching paint dry.

There are one or two weird folksy ones too.

So, my podium is as follows: Austria, Italy (good idea with showing lyrics for once!) and Latvia. I also liked Germany and Switzerland had a nice ballad. And, obviously, Poland lol :) Damn, Justyna looks great for her age o_O and seems to be in a great shape too. 👍

In the end I voted for Austria.

So, my podium

bronze... Sweden

silver.... Latvia

gold... FINLAND! ICH KOMME! (absolute best performance of the night the audience started chanting her name before the hosts cut them off).

bronze... Sweden

SAUNAHHHH!!! ;D Yeah, it was fun lol

with the least Swedish entry imaginable...

What do you mean?

gold... FINLAND! ICH KOMME! (absolute best performance

Not my thing, I'm afraid... I can't remember anything special about the performance either. I liked Latvia's and Luxembourg's show for example, from what I remember. 🤔

Btw, for Poland's voting short they showed the worst moment possible, imho - when Justyna was hanging up there without singing even o_O

I can't remember anything special about the performance either.

I think women don't like that performance (since partly it makes fun of female.... non fulfillment).

I don't mind Austria's song in the abstract but I hate the idea of it winning.... another neuter male singing falsetto.... (ręce opadają....)

Well done Austria!!!

Another castrato.... shoot me now.....

they showed the worst moment possible, imho - when Justyna was hanging up there

She was very badly mic'ed both in the semi and in the final... (she wasn't the only one but was hurt more by it I think)

Wow....Israel second place???

Who would have thought it....

Poor San Marino....were they that bad?

At least nobody with zero points this time, heh:)

Well, I'm guessing why men would like her performance lol :))) But I personally care about music/songs the most, not performances, and that particular song was simply not my thing musically.

Isince partly it makes fun of female.... non fulfillment).

I had zero idea what this song is about, to be honest. That's often my problem with Eurovision songs, because I can't relate on the lyrics level, so the music has to be great/original/memorable somehow.

I don't mind Austria's song in the abstract but I hate the idea of it winning.... another neuter male singing falsetto.... (ręce opadają....)

That song was beautiful and his was voice was beautiful too. The most memorable song for me. So I'm glad it won :) I haven't been watching Eurovision contests lately, so that type of singing was something new for me. I didn't even know that men can sing this way these days - I thought only castrati could sing like that! o_O

Wow....Israel second place???

Yeah, right? I think the public vote for Israel must've been a sympathy vote? I was surprised by Albania too. I didn't see it coming. Maybe because they performed last?

At least nobody with zero points this time, heh:)

Yes, I was surprised by some zero votes from the public though - for Switzerland and the UK o_O

Poor San Marino....were they that bad?

Well, I didn't like their song... But there were also others I didn't like. I don't remember which one was the worst lol I guess someone had to finish last. I'm guessing that David's statue chewing bubble gum with a grimace on his face in the backround and the weird mask on the singer's face didn't help either... Who comes up with this stuff... lol 🤦
