Presidential elections 2025 - the race has commenced!!!

There looks to be a huge turnout in the big march today in Warsaw.

It doesn' matter.

It's good electoral publicity.

As long as they help keep Nawrocki out.

You would think, but in my opinion - and I have always rather well read public sentiment - it won't translate into greater support for Trzaskowski.
Trzaskowski is a disaster and an inpet twat (is that sound like British curse or not?)

He's the best person for the job. PiS' alleged russophilia will count against them as will their theocratic views on women's bodies and their general hysteria.

There are voters in this election who are digital natives, and very used to filtering the BS out of propaganda. As that to the declining infield (and haemorrhaging mass attendance) in the RCC, the age range (and number dead since the last election) of PiS voters and of course osę voters who stayed at home during the first round, and he's got a very strong chance.

He did come very close last time and his star has been on the ascendant since, plus of course PiS have fallen...

A slow horse race. He's not that great but better than a gangster wannabe whose willing to weaken opposition against Poland's biggest enemy (russia).

My feelings too and some of his supporters are See You On Tuesdays with rental flats, the type that go to 'Żabka Nano' because they think it's glam like late 80s twats with mobiles and "isn't Dubai nice?" (no it isn't). They don't care that people are out of a job at Żabka and the prices certainly aren't lower, nor that the people holding doors open for them in UAE aren't doing it out of love.

It's a case of hold your nose and vote for the least worst.

American interference in Polish elections. People affiliated with democrat party supported Trzaskowski with 1,5mln pln[350k usd] for campaign ads.

I don't think any European nation has ever chosen a pimp, tattooed thug, loan shark, swindler and a drug addict (all in one person) to be their president, and I hope Poles won't either. Perhaps, but still a drug addicted pimp and a loanshark crook would be the first such case. :) Luckily, I believe that people who are guided by hatred in their political choices (hatred of those better educated than them, wealthier, with better jobs etc.) are still in minority.

It will be a huge embarassment otherwise. Wałęsa was an embarassment enough but at least he was a worker whilst Nawrocki hasn't had a single day of honest work in his life - always a politically appointed cosy office. When he was 26 he was already at Gdańsk branch of IPN, and in 2013 (at the age of 30) he became a chief of its regional public education bureau (Oddziałowe Biuro Edukacji Publicznej).

Maf has no idea about Polish politics. It could be that he is progressive himself.

I'm an eclectic moderate functionalist-realist. I favor policies that work (in the real world to make people's lives better) over any ideology. I align with progressives on some issues and not others.

the man in question was never the owner of the appartment (I understand you don't understand the concept of "mieszkanie komunalne") - Nawrocki gave the man money to buy out the appartment and then bought it from him for at least significant part of the market value (but not in a single payment from what I can gather) - he also supported the man in various ways - the man was never evicted etc etc - watch some media sources other than TVN sometimes, mafketis

as for Nawrocki's opposition to Ukraine joining NATO: Trump also opposes it, European leaders also opposed it - they just went silent on the topic since Trump's election

And why did Nawrocki buy a council flat? Profiting personally from society's assets. Does he think that Poland doesn't need social housing?

because he was a young poor man (he was in his early 20's at the time), who wanted to grab an opportunity and the Gdańsk council sold appartments at a discount to the occupiers? the flat we live in (though not a council flat) we also bought for a 10 per cent of the value

He wasn't Germany's president but a chancellor. There were many crooks among prime ministers - it's sort of implied in the job itself - but president is the highest representative office, we have to choose the lesser evil or the lesser embarassment, and Nawrocki would be embarrassment incarnate as the president.

How long did he live in the flat? Did he have anywhere else to stay while he lived there?

Wasn't it a bit small for the old man and him together?

This is purely a theoretical stance since there is no way in the foreseeable future that Ukraine will become a part of NATO.
It rather expresses a more assertive line in Polish politics, there is a bargaining element in it, more options for Poland.
