Topless sunbathers acquitted in Szczecin, Poland

I don't see how people can be offended by boobs. If a woman was walking topless down the street here, I would be surprised but not offended. What's the problem?

It a cultural thing. No one bats an eyelash when a guy pulls his top off* on a hot day and walks about with nipples on show but because female boobs have become something people see as sexual they then have become offended by the site of them in public. Same when people get offended at a new mother breast-feeding in public. All she's doing is a very natural thing, something which is being promoted to death here, but do it in public and people are like "oh you're putting me off my cafe latte".

*disclaimer: PD acknowledges that there are some men who cause great offence when they go topless in summer. ;)

True but we have to question the logic. Some men would probably get too excited by it all and do sth they shouldn't when drunk.

I defend your right PD as a women to "get them out" whilst moderating if you so wish :-)

And for that matter all PF women.

Ha, ha ;) However, they might come in useful in distracting male members when all the arguing kicks off. ;)

True but that's because they've become sexual. If they were only viewed as they were originally intended to (feeding babies) then reactions would be different.

True enough, PD! It's also about set and setting. When my wife walks around after coming out of the shower, it's natural for her to, um, 'aerate' herself first :) Men are naturally drawn to boobs in certain places but on beaches and after showering, it just becomes normalised and many men don't even bother to look. There are plenty of women who show a lot in class when I teach but I take notice but don't look any further. It's not the right place to. However, out on the rynek, I can have a look at girls going by. It's innocent to look and that's all it is. I got told off by my Japanese GF for doing that 'irome wo tsukau' (glancing) once and didn't risk it after that as you have to know when you have sth good in life.

Boobs are boobs but trouble is trouble and then there are no boobs :( :(

I don't think this case is terrible especially since there are nude beaches throughout Europe and America. In fact I live close to South Beach in Miami which is a nude beach. This shouldn't be seen as lewd because everyone wants to get naked on the beach sometimes haha

South Beach in Miami which is a nude beach

SoBe was my home for few fun years! Technically, the only legally nude beach in Miami is Haulover. On the South Beach, you can get away with being toples, but if some some highly strung individual watching her offspring complains, cops have to say something. Few select hotels on the strip promote nude sunbathing around their pools.

Merged: Why are Polish so offended by nudity?

Swearing and nudity is almost always censored on Polish TV. But i am wondering why ? Why is sunbathing topless so taboo and illegal in Poland ?

"Two Polish women have caused uproar in the deeply conservative and Catholic country [of Poland] by daring to sunbathe topless. Model Dorota Krzysztofek, 28, and her 'accomplice', known only as Anna K, 26, were today officially reprimanded in court for baring their breasts on a beach. In May, police officers fined Miss Krzystofek and her friend for sunbathing topless on a public beach in Szczecin. The women went to court after they failed to pay a fine of 150 zlotys (£33)."

dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1083965/Storm-D-Cup-Polish-women-court-sunbathing-topless.html

Here is another perfect example. This non-sexual video of topless German sledders was censored by Polish media TVN24. I guess Poles are offended by the sight of a nipples ??? Watch the video.

tvn24.pl/2414000,0,0,1,1,na-majtki-w-samych-majtkach-i-butach,wideo.html

Please explain. Thanks.

On the contrary, it is legal for women to go topless anywhere in America and no one complains. Here are some videos.

Here is a video of a woman walking topless in New York City in front of former President Bill Clinton. Nobody cares. But in Poland a topless girl in the city would be arrested.

Here is another video of topless girls in New York City, USA

Here is a video of topless women at a county fair in Oregon, USA

youtube.com/watch?v=EJnyzit4r_o

Here is a video of topless women at a festival in North Carolina, USA

When will Poland leave it's puritan roots and allow topless girls in public like USA ?

Do you really expect to be taken seriously, or are you just being provocative for the sake of it?
Out of interest, what kind of university do you attend, and why do you study in a country you despise?

Yes i take it very seriously and apparently so do a 1 million women planning to march topless to Washington DC on August 21st organized by the GoTopless movement.

visit gotopless.org for more info.

I dont despise Poland. I just hate religion and how narrow minded many Poles are. Poland is a breeding ground for religious extremists in Europe. Goodthing the European Human Rights Court have prevented right-wing Polish politicians from spreading their homophobic religious agenda.

What, looking at naked girls on youtube?

Poland is a breeding ground for religious extremists in Europe.

Actually, some recent research shows it to be quite the opposite. Then again, I guess you wouldn't know this, as you seem to be in America right now during term time. How strange.

It's okay Mike - we know you sit in your parents basement, watching pûrn and trolling forums - we understand

Who cares about facts as long as you can link to Youtube nudity?

That proves how stupid you are. Wikipedia is not a reliable source for information. The content is often outdated and incorrect.

It's legal for women to walk topless in ANY city in America (protected under the First Amendment). A woman who is "fined" by the police is entitled to sue the police department for millions of dollars (as in the case of Phoenix Feeley). Look her up.

The GoTopless Movement is a U.S. based organization that encourages thousands of women to go topless each year in the U.S. They are planning to have 1 million women march topless to Washington D.C. on August 21st 2012 (Women's Day).

I know you Poles are jealous that you dont have this movement in Poland (where topless sunbathing is still illegal) but relax already. Watch all the videos above that i posted (especially the Jim Jone's one). The topless girls in his music video have some fine ass nipples :-))

skip to 00.50 seconds of the video

vodpod.com/watch/5101295-new-video-jim-jones-summer-time

Or we can talk about why this non-sexual video of German Topless sledders was censored by the Polish Network TVN24. Are Poles that insensitive to seeing nipples??? Why are the nipples so blurred?

Can't speak for Poles but I doubt it. If most normal guys want to see women's breasts, they just ask their wives or girlfriends nicely.

I know, I understand...the only hope you've got of seeing breasts is on the beach.

If most normal guys want to see women's breasts, they just ask their wives or girlfriends nicely.

Indeed, we don't need to spend our time scouring the internet for topless women.

And let's be honest here - while seeing some nice girl topless is a good thing, you also have to accept that plenty of monsters will choose to go topless too. Ewww. I'd rather have them covered up, thanks!

And uh, "Mike" - if the USA is so liberal, why this?

CBS television is fined $550,000 for showing 18 frames of Janet Jackson's breast (there are 30 frames to a video second).

Hmm. Trollfail.

BWAH HA HA HA! HAHAHAHAHAH! HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA!

How about a site run by American lawyers for American lawyers then? Just for you. Cos you seem to be unable to search Google by yourself.

criminal.findlaw.com/criminal-charges/indecent-exposure.html

Are you really at Uni? God help your lecturers.

Can't speak for Poles but I doubt it. If most normal guys want to see women's breasts, they just ask their wives or girlfriends nicely.

Or pop down to the sklep and reach for the top shelves....

n Poland (where topless sunbathing is still illegal)

There are several nude beaches in Poland, where full frontal nudity has always been legal. There is one at Gdansk, one on the Wisla close to Warsaw and as far as I know there are several others. They are clearly marked on maps and have been there for years.

I hope you realize that the Janet Jackson incident occurred nearly a decade ago. It's old news now. Alot has changed since then. For one, we have a new liberal president (Barack Obama) who supports legalizing gay marriage and marijuana.

BWAH HA HA HA! HAHAHAHAHAH! HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA!

How about a site run by American lawyers for American lawyers then.

I read the website you provided.
It says "Indecent exposure laws in most states make it a crime to purposefully display one's genitals in public, causing others to be alarmed or offended. Indecent exposure is often committed for the sexual gratification of the offender, and may reach the level of a sexual assault if any physical contact is made."

genitals = a penis or vagina

The lawyers website you provided says nothing about topless women. You fail again =]

All of the links I've provided occurred within the last few years ...except my example about Poland trying to ban pûrnography in 2000.

"The Polish parliament has approved a ban on all pûrnography, both soft and hard-core. It still has to be approved by President Alexander Kwasniewski but correspondents say that if it is, it would be one of Europe's toughest anti-pûrnography laws."

Shows how much more liberal Poland is, doesn't it? Since there are beaches where one can legally wander around completely nude.

Not that new and a shame so many of the rest of the politicians have sworn to block his every move.

Yawn. Do try harder.

Well i wish i could find some articles about Polish women sunbathing topless ...but sadly Polish girls don't go topless for fear of harassment and fines.

And the link you provided is about women going topless in the city. She lost her appeal to walk topless in the city. But I'm sure it's still legal at the beach. Phoenix Feeley is famous for walking topless in the city. She wins some battles and loses some battles.

But that's just one city. There are still thousands of other places that girls can go topless like California, Texas, New York, Florida, Hawaii, Oregon etc...

And that's the whole point of the GoTopless movement. That's why 1 million women are planning to march topless to Washington D.C. on August 26st this year to clarify the laws!!!

"Mark your calendars, everyone. Feminists have planned a massive demonstration to advocate equality for women by exposing their breasts in public. Women are to gather for the "Two Million Boob March" in Washington, D.C., and remove their shirts and bras. Gotopless women have chosen Aug 26, 2012 for this revolutionary event because Aug 26 is Women's Equality Day."

You made yourself sound really stupid. It shows how little you know about America.

USA has more nude beaches than the whole world combined. In fact, California has over 30 recognized nude beaches alone. Here is a long list of socially nude beaches in America.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_social_nudity_places_in_North_America

And here is are some videos about nude beaches and resorts in USA

I'm not here to argue with you guys. I love Poland. It's a beautiful country and my favorite in Europe. Poles are very smart and friendly people.

I am simply offering my perspective as an American and sharing my knowledge with you (without the media bias). I can find many worse countries than Poland --like Belarus, Russia, Ukraine, or Turkey (or even some a state like Alabama).
