when I was in NY, one guy asked me where I came from. I said, from Poland, and he looked very confused, so I asked him: do you know where it is?? and then I heard the most stupid answer ever:
- I'm not sure but I think it's an island near by Australia...

defenetly the most stupid thing about Poland, Ive ever heard

lol people ask me what language do we speak in Poland all the time. and is it like russian.
regular stuff.
and sometimes I get the did Polish people really charge tanks with horses and swords ?

I was asked why Poles have pink flamingos (the plastic, ulgy looking things) on their front yards.

The first time in my life that I saw such an ugly, pink flamingo was in Buffalo NY. The front yard belonged to an American of Norwegian descent.

Why? War propaganda (I think it was a German one) trying to ridicule Polish armed forces often did spread that crap where in fact Poles used the cavalry to charge against vulnerable against that attack German artillery.

I still wonder why especially german war propaganda is still charged for all polish woes.
I mean Germany was the axis, the main enemy...where is the logic that the allies should listen and believe in german war propaganda, repeat the stories and the jokes decades after the wars end???

Is that some kind of "polish logic"??? :)
The allies believed nothing else from this propaganda but "loved" the anti-polish things??? :)

its just aggrivating to correct someone a million times when they cant get my name right and the worst part of it is they really do insist!

Yep. The Americano tends to think all Polish last names are Jewish ones and they can't pronounce any of 'em, either. Lol.

When organising aid convoys to Poland the most common question i got from people wanting to join us was....where exactly is Poland...? I think for a lot of English people the civilised world ended at the Berlin wall...what was beyond it was all Russian badlands full of evil commies...

Mr. Seanus,

Cocerning 'does poland still...' the japanese thought still poland is communistic country:-) so, she asked 'does poland...?' i did not describe detail of the question on a previous commemt. Sorry:-P

Of course, it is minority to have such stupid question even in jp, but sometime i see such japanese:-(

>japanese are very insular

I'd say if you were to ask random polish people about Japan you wouldn't get many sensible answers either... (although there are probably more people interested in Japan in here taking many manga and anime fans into consideration)
