If the US intervenes then they are contravening International law. If they start bombing a nuclear facility then there is a risk of nuclear contamination. This is also prohibited but it just seems as if the rule book is going to be torn up.

You put all this together, and it isn't unreasonable for Israel to want to mitigate any possible threat.
