but obviously it was not good enough.

Relax, Rich. If there will be referendum about Goat Heights v2.0 or nuking the most dense concentrations of morons - we definitely will vote "Yes, please, ASAP"...

Hey, Velund, I have am idea...

Russia and the US should get together and scare West Nigerians and Ukistanis with an invasion by Russia.

At the same time, the US would let them know it's leaving NATO ..unless you pay us cost + profit.

They pay. We split it...Pure genius...

If they don't, it will mean that they lied all the time about Russia planning to invade anyone.

Let's hope it's a bit better organized than the last campaigns

For North Nigeria - Ukraine, Syria, Afghanistan
for the US - Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan

Still there were impressive victories in North Ossetia and Grenada that we shouldn't forget

a bit better organised

And now North Nigeria is boasting g that they can supply nuclear weapons to terrorists...

The Russian agent running a UK-based spy ring joked that he could supply "nukes" if a client could pay, a court has heard.
Jan Marsalek, the fugitive boss of a German tech company, and Orlin Roussev, who was running a spy ring for him from a guest house in Great Yarmouth, were also involved in money laundering and the trade of weapons and blood diamonds around the world, messages have shown.

Hungary: Opposition leader Magyar leaks voice recording of Hungarian Defense Minister talking about the need to amp up military capabilities

"Let us break with the peace mentality and move into phase zero of the road to war"

dailynewshungary.com/peter-magyar-secret-recording-hungary-war/

The Orban government in the past has publicly repudiated Hungarian borders saying he doesn't recognize Romanian sovereignty over Transylvania and called Slovakia a "breakaway region".

But this doesn't seem to be about those regions....

In Western Ukraine, locals recruited by Hungarian military intelligence: "looked for vulnerabilities, and analyzed how locals might react if Hungarian troops entered the region."

Pretty scandalous news out of Ukraine. The SBU (state intelligence agency) has detained two Ukrainians on charges of spying for Hungary.

Quote:

The Ukrainian state security service (SBU) said on Friday that it had uncovered a spy network run by Hungary's military intelligence to gather sensitive information on its defences and population in its western Zakarpattia region, home to about 80,000 Hungarian speakers. [...]

The SBU said the person running the spy operation in Ukraine "was a career officer of Hungarian military intelligence".

It said the spy ring was tasked with collecting "information about the military security" of the region, searching "for vulnerabilities in the region's ground and air defence, and study[ing] the sociopolitical views of local residents".

In particular, the alleged agents compiled information about what might happen "if Hungarian troops entered the region".

The news is a few hours old. No response from Orban yet.

Note the post just ahead of yours.... and the first story about the Hungarian army preparing for war....

No response from Orban yet.

Szijjarto has gone the usual russian route of deny and accuse.... and tit for tat, which for realists is pretty much confirmation.

first story about the Hungarian army preparing for war....

Apologies, was so excited to share this that I had missed your prior message.

This is nuts. A few months ago when I was speculating about Hungarian irredentism, I didn't think they were contemplating actual military operations.

Slovakia, Romania, and Poland have considerably larger claims on Ukrainian territory. Wonder how they feel about this.

Did Orban lost his mind completely? Surely he can't be contemplating backstabbing Ukraine?

Romania would roll into Hungary from the East, Croatia from the South, and if he thinks Slovakia would shield him from Poland in the North, he has to think again. No. Definitely not. He can't be that retarded.
Bobko  28 | 2170

He can't be that retarded.

In all honesty, I think Hungary's army would be obliterated by Ukraine's - even if it remained largely committed to the East.

Maybe if Kiev has fallen, and there is no organized resistance left - Orban can exploit the general confusion to quickly grab some Hungarian majority areas (to protect them, of course).

I imagine they'll say something then, like this:

"In light of the rapidly deteriorating security and humanitarian situation in Western Ukraine, the Government of Hungary has taken the unprecedented but necessary step of assuming temporary administrative responsibilities in select districts of Zakarpattia Oblast, where ethnic Hungarians constitute a significant portion of the population.

This decision follows the collapse of effective governance in Kyiv, widespread disruptions to essential services, and increasing reports of targeted violence, looting, and institutional breakdown.

As a responsible member of the international community, and in line with our obligations under the Geneva Conventions, Hungary cannot stand idly by while its historical kin are left without protection or assistance."

Maybe if Kiev has fallen

Nah, even a Putin's pinworm like Orban knows it's not going to happen.
Bobko  28 | 2170

Orban knows it's not going to happen.

The question then - I suppose - is why is Orban doing any of this at all?

Why have your senior military leadership give speeches to the rank and file about shifting away from a "peace stance"?

Why recruit ethnic Hungarian spies in Ukraine, to gauge the sentiments of the local population regarding a potential invasion?

Why do any of this, if it's such a pipe dream?

Orban won the last elections most convincingly. As he said - his victory was "so big", that you could see it "from the moon". He doens't need to play any "war cards" to mobilize the electorate. He is secure in his current position, for at least a few more years.

I think it would be a mistake to dismiss this as some kind of Hungarian theatrics. These people are known for making suicidal decisions, and they almost always end disastrously for them. It hasn't stopped them in the past from making new attempts.

Orban .... He is secure in his current position

No longer. The pedophilia pardon incident was a big hit and IINM Peter Magyar has been polling ahead of him for some months now.

Collectively, Hungarians are still deeply traumatized by Trianon (trivialize the reasons for it and the fact that Hungarians were a minority in most of the lands they 'lost') and any leader who managed to reverse even a teeny tiny part of it would go down in history.

In recent years he's repudiated Romanian control over Transylvania and someone in his government (I forget who) said Slovakia was a 'breakaway region' of Hungary.
A big part of his support is funneling money to Hungarian minority communities (who can and do vote in Hungarian elections).

His government has justified it's pro-russian stance by supposed Ukrainian oppression of the Hungarian minority in Zakarpattia (and was singularly unmoved when they wrote an open letter to him telling him to knock it off and to support Ukraine). When they complain about a lack of Hungarian language education in Ukraine what they mean is they're not in charge of it...

So far I was told this:

Putin has cancer

Putin is mentally ill

Putin is a war criminal

Russia is on its last legs

Russsia is out of ammo

Russia is losing

Ukrainie is winning

Ukrainian tanks are closing in on Moscow

Ukraine is democratic

This war has absolutely nothing to do with NATO expansion

Only Russia suffers losses

Did I miss anything?

Maybe it's a desperate attempt to regain the lost support? Politicians facing defeat do stupid things. But still, backstabbing Ukraine would be galactic-level idiocy.

Slovakia was a 'breakaway region' of Hungary

That's phenomenal stupidity - if he moved Hungarian troops into Ukraine, he might face a joint invasion by Romania, Croatia and Poland (possibly Slovakia, if they beg to differ about being a 'breakaway Hungarian region').

Here's what ChatGPT thinks of such a scenario...

Assuming a full-scale-Budapest would likely fall within 10-21 days under typical modern military conditions.

What is concerning about this is Orban's alliance with regional trouble maker Serbia. Depending on how Russia comes out of the war against Ukraine, those two countries may very well feel encouraged to do something stupid.

Sanctions? Sure

Suspending memberships? Probably

And then?

Good question. I suspect a few regional players might intervene with the (financial and military) support from the rest. That would be my hope at least.

In World War II against German forces lasted:

Denmark - 6 hours;

Luxembourg - 1 day;

Netherlands - 5 days;

Yugoslavia - 11 days;

Belgium - 18 days;

Greece - 24 days;

Poland - 27 days;

France - 1 month and 12 days;

Norway - 2 months and 1 day.

Pavlov's house in Stalingrad held out for 58 days.

The Soviet Union held on for four years (1,418 days) and ended the war in the enemy's lair - Germany capitulated.

Poland - 27 days;

France - 1 month and 12 days

This is an unfair comparison.

France fought Germany only (they didn't have Soviet Union invading from the other side) and they had British Expeditionary Corps to help them.

Poland fought both Germany and Soviet Union* alone.
