She did and I heard her. Nothing special besides that she is cute and 14.
The song was so bad I was afraid she would fall asleep. It was so bad that nobody can actually repeat it by humming, whistling, or on a piano. Falsetto is a felony and she is guilty of it.

No, I would not want to hear that piece ever again.
And those damn dreadlocks...Disgusting...Even black celebrities agree with me and spend money to get rid of them to look white.

You want to see world-class talent and songs you will play over and over? Here we go:

'she speak with no Polish accent' - it's called being "bilingual"

why are old men so sour and rude about her?

ffs i just looked her up. Simon Cowell himself pressed the golden buzzer to bring her to the finals. It wasnt Walliams having a laugh.

Cowell has been producing successful singers and groups for his entire working life . he knows what is good and what is not.

being a sour rude old troll upset because a young woman of colour is (a). Polish and (b). successful just makes you look pitiable.

and she doesnt have 'dreadlocks' her hair is braided

just to make everyone extra happy here is a 'Polish Plait' from the `17th century

No, bilingual is a person fluent in two languages.
Accent has nothing to do with being bilingual.
Novi is bilingual yet has an accent.
I have heard Sarah James speak and she doesn't have the slightest Polish accent with being born in Poland.
Just saying......

well then she is perfectly bilingual - as you say there are levels of it.

when i was reading about this stuff i came across some idea that just a few 'get by' words in another language makes you 'bilingual'!! i dont think so!. It seems very subjective.

Anyway the people who are commenting about the way this girl speaks probably dont even hear nuance in accent they are too busy foaming with rage. or something.

No. If she untangled that mess it would still be the hair of a black woman.

Bilingual to me means that you think in both languages with equal ease.

a few 'get by' words in another language makes you 'bilingual'!

I tend to stick with the 'acquired' not 'learned' distinction. A bilingual person acquires more than one language from infancy from hearing and interacting with speakers of said language.

Learning a language in school is a different issue.

Studies show that the brain treats acquired languages differently from learned languages.

But there are lots of confounding factors, like the fact that some people become more fluent in a language learned at school than in their 'native' language that they acquired in childhood... (I've known a few people like that).

Anyhoo, I found two interviews with Sarah

My judgement: To me, she sounds sort of borderline native, like she's been around English all her life and it mostly comes naturally but there are some pronunciation features (general lack of th sounds and devoicing of final voiced consonants )and syntactic peculiarities (like "I didn't came here") that make me think she's dominant in Polish (in interviews in Polish she sounds like a typical Polish teenager, down to swallowing syllables in the middle of words and mumbling a lot in the way they do now.... kids! what's wrong with 'em????)

interview in English (a bit old she might be more at ease now)

Learning a language in school is a different issue.

Nobody ever learned a foreign language in school. A year in a Russian prison would be a lot more productive than 7 years in a school in Warsaw.

Instead of teaching survival language, the idiots make you read poetry.

Falsetto is a felony

Well, it served most Motown artists quite well, to name but a few.

Nothing special besides that she is cute and 14.

She does have a good voice. Regardless of how poor the songs are, or how much she imitates the style of the singers whose songs she's performing, she herself has a good 'instrument'.

I watched two videos of her on YouTube, one from last year and another from this year. In the earlier one you can hear how the lower end of the voice was undeveloped. She does have a big range but her natural range is probably mezzo-soprano and she sounds weak when she forces the lower end. A year later, you can see how she's been having singing lessons and the lower end has developed a lot.

She seems like a nice, unaffected little thing. Good luck to her.

As for her English accent, she sounds fairly American to me.

Instead of teaching survival language, the idiots make you read poetry.

I remember reading Maupassant in French and nearly dying of boredom but we got a really thorough grounding in grammar and vocab and we certainly had more than enough French to order food, ask directions etc. What people tend to lack is not so much the language as the confidence to use it.

OK i watched the interview video and she has excellent second language English..also of course her father would know English being from Nigeria so she could have picked up a lot form him as well as movies and so on as she says herself.

anyone who says she has no trace of an accent just isn't listening.

she is a musician that is why her English is so good. she listens.

hey Atch how are you? Long time!

You are correct and my #71 says so.
I wish some reporter would ask her if she is happy being a weirdo. OK, being different. My guess is she isn't. Nobody would be.

it must be hard to find a good African hair braider in Poland i wonder how she manages.
was thinking of getting some nice extensions myself but decided it would be cultural appropriation ..:):)

yes I was just thinking the same to be honest. but those African women can do tiny tiny plaits they are the experts. It takes hours.

I think you have to bring a packed lunch to the hairdresser lol

hey Atch how are you? Long time!

I'm fine, thanks :) Good to see you back :))

I just watched an interview with Sara James where I listened to her English at some length and she has a huge number of influences in her accent, including those classic African flavours. On words like 'home' and 'know' she could be from the southeast of England but when she says 'this song is about', it's pure Nigerian intonation. There's a touch of American too and at times she's a bit Ali G :-D But regardless of accents, she's incredibly natural and totally at ease in English. A fluent speaker.

good to see you too.

Yes she has that movie/music transatlantic twang, but slips in and out of other ways of speaking.
If i was asked to guess without knowing she was Polish, i would have guessed French living in London or New York for a long time or something like that.

or maybe one of those nomadic international kids that go to Swiss boarding schools or little tutorial colleges in London.

i think the golden buzzer means she is just straight through to the finals.

Nope, to the semi-finals. Sara James still had to go through semi-finals and she did get to the final by singing Elton John's "Rocket Man".

There are many good singers here who don't make it because they are not minorities or don't have a tear-jerking sob story to tell.

You mean "sob stories" like the one of Jane Marczewski?:

It's so f*cking unfair that people like you get to live to an old age and talented sweethearts like her die at such a young age...

It's not OK... Not OK at all... 😢

That was Just a pathetic comment by Rich.

Yes. It's disgusting to unload this kind of emotional crap to get sympathy votes. Why else did she do it? To start a gofundme drive?

1% of all humans on earth will die this year. That's 70 million. Now what?

What is disgusting is that you can hold the abhorrent opinions that you have.

Why else did she do it?

They've asked her questions and she answered truthfully. I find her story and her attitude inspirational. I'm glad that she shared her story.

It's disgusting to unload this kind of emotional crap

No, it's amazing that she managed to talk about it and then sing in front of such an audience. A brave and inspirational woman. You, however, are truly disgusting.

Now what?

Now your reaction shows what a sociopath you are.

My reaction is pure logic. Yours is pure emotion. There is no place for this kind of stuff in competition. Nobody goes to an auction and says, I bid 1000 and, btw, I have terminal cancer because nobody there gives a damn. Such things are reserved for doctors and priests.

Logic over emotion?

They've asked her questions and she answered truthfully.

BS. "How are you?" is not asking for a list of your ailments, heart rate, pressure, weight, height, or if you smell bad today.
They didn't ask her, Do you have cancer? out of the blue. The proper answer would be, I am happy to be here, and shut up about damn cancer. Everybody had or will have one so having it is not like winning Nobel Prize in something.

Oh, just shut up Rich......
I get what you are saying....But in the end, does it really matter?
Can she sing or not?
